Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello everyone. My name is mike and this is the second time I've tried to post here. First time it failed to work? Maybe this tyime I'll bet it right.
Thirty years ago, I purchased a Nikon F3 with a Nikkor 35mm 1:28 and Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm 1:35 Macro zoom. It has served me well . . . love that camera. As a serious computer graphics artist, six years ago, I decided I needed Digital camera capacity so I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 2000. I figured I should ease into the digital image with modest cash outlay since I was still using my F3. However, it is time for me to move to DSLR. I am interested in purchasing a Nikon D7000 and wonder if my old Nikkor and Vivitar lenses will work with the new camera. I am aware that using old lenses with the digital SLR is not optimum, but it will help, initially, in that I can use the camera for a while without having to expend large sums on new lenses. What do you think?

Hello everyone. I am Sheng from Canada. I found this site a very interesting and a very helpful one especially to the neophyte photographers. I just got my nikon D5100 and know nothing about photography. Still on the process of reading what an aperture, shutter speed and ISO means..I hope someday I could get nice pictures too, I am not aiming for a perfect one, but at least to level up my learner shots in the future.:)

Hi Michael
What a cool name - Youngblood. I could do with that especially as I'm definitely not young blood.
Welcome to CiC. You might find it better to post your specific question about the camera in a new thread, where more members will see it. This thread is really just for introductions. Just cut and paste what you have written about the new camera into a thread in the Digital cameras and equipment forum - here https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/forum2.htm

Hi Sheng, and welcome to CiC. You should find everyone here very helpful, so just ask any questions you have in the appropriate forum sections. Also, check out Sean's tutorials on this site. You may find them very useful.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Vivitar Series 1 lenses (70-210 and 18-70) were my favourite lenses too and I will keep using them now even though I am doing digital with modern gear and lenses. A good lens does not stop being a good lens. Also having used my Vivitar lenses for thirty years, like you, they are a reference point for me to gauge my newly acquired lenses. They also have that nice feel of familiarity and I, like you, am not put off by their manual focus - in fact it is second nature and autofocus is still a bit strange to me. So keep on using them, and enjoying them. I certainly will.

Rob - I have added you as a contact on my flickr page - Least I hope I have.

Hello, name's Nate and I'm from Wilmington, Delaware. I'm currently trying to get re-invigorated with photography as a hobby after flirting with it for the past 10 or so years. I happened upon a link here from twitter (for digital post-processing), did a little browsing and this seems like a good photo community so I thought I'd like to jump in. My big gun is a Canon 50D but also shoot with a Canon G11 and (usually unsuccessfully) an iPhone and do my post-processing via LR 3.

Hi Walter
Your shots on Flickr look pretty good! I like this one - it is very anthropomorphic (having human qualities) http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigpapo...in/photostream
Welcome to the forum!

Hi Vinay. Welcome to the forum (as the Romans used to say). OK, we will tell you about photography if you tell us all about mechanical engineering... you don't know any astro-physics as well, do you?:eek:
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi I'm Jenny I started my addiction with photography 6 or 7 years ago with a 300D Canon updated to a 40 D a couple of years later and now I have a 7D, my main love is Macro photography, though I do enjoy taking all kinds of photography.
I live in Adelaide South Australia where the weather is great all year round for getting out with my camera.
Jenny
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Don't be silly Jenny the weather is not as good as Melbourne. What are you telling all these people overseas.
Welcome to CiC and hope you enjoy it. I have and have learned a lot and still learning.
What type of photography do you like? One place a friend I frequent is Arkaroola in the Northern Flinders. A great location for photos.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi,
My name is Debbie and live in Australia. I am fairly new to photography and have only recently bought my first dslr. I shoot wit a Nikon d700 and various lenses. I primarily concentrate on underwater photography but love landscapes, seascapes and want to learn about portraiture with my first grandchild on the way.
I still work full time so photography is just a hobby. I am looking forward to learning lots from all your professionals out there so about to take a look around the forum.
Cheers - Deb

Hi
I am Allen and live near Reading in Berkshire. I have a Canon EOS550D/Rebel T2i and am currently half way through an Open University course on Digital Photography. I have not hit upon my style or even preference yet as these seem to change from week to week. I am still exploring. I enjoy macro photography, abstracts, flowers and producing final images which have IMPACT. Although fairly new to taking photos in anything but 'auto' I have been using Photoshop CS5 for many years. I have recently acquired Lightroom to organise my growing collection of images.
I look forward to progressing my interest in photography and producing ever better shots. I am hoping to get feedback on some of my photos as well as being able to comment on those posted by others.
I am retired and looking forward to exploring the site.
All the best - Allen
