Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I have been moving around all the information on this site and it's most certainly extensive and highly educational. I run a company in Virginia USA called Blue Ridge Workshops teaching our students photography and all things related. I worked for Nikon for 33 years as a tech and sales representative, a few months in retail??? and then started my company. There are currently 7 instructors, all excellent. We publish a monthly news letter, and intend to link all of our readers to this site. It is one of the most educational that I have seen.

Delighted to read your post and the praise it contains for CiC. I hope your students will take your suggestion that they link up to the site. And also that you become involved and share the massive body of knowledge that you have about photography.
We're a relatively small but happy bunch out here in our little corner of cyberspace.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello, I came across this site yesterday and was impressed, so here I am. I live in London and have always been strongly affected by architecture - maybe because it's frozen music, which is my work. My father was a dedicated hobby photographer and his lovely 1960s cameras, lenses and light meters left me with a love of the kit (he never tried to teach me, though). I took a lot of analogue snaps in my 20s as a tourist and then stopped. An old urge to record buildings and streets has now reasserted itself and won't go away. I'm totally pro-digital in other domains (sound, text) but my recent digital pictures (P&S and bridge cameras) have mostly been dire. The one below was taken early evening in a very tree-shaded street at ISO 400, 1/25 second, f3.6. I find it dull, dark and badly framed (I've cropped it but the chopped RH end is original...).

So I'm on a mission to learn, understand, harness and, I hope, enjoy the medium instead of just getting frustrated. Haven't bought a DSLR yet: wondering whether to buy a Canon body for my old lenses (EF 35-70mm 1:3.4-4.5, EF 70-120mm 1:4) and one day, when I can afford it, a TS-E, or get something cheapish like a Lumix DMC-L10K with what I gather is its very good kit lens (very broke at the minute!). Any advice gratefully received! All the best, Nick

Nick - Hello and welcome. Glad you've decided to 'sign up'. The idea certainly is that the tutorials and the forum act as two parts of the same thing - a resource that helps people develop knowledge and skills and which is approachable and fun. Hopefully you will already have seen that no-one stands on ceremony around here and an awful lot of people are more than happy to offer support and advice.
You could, if you wished, copy that last part of your post into a new post in the Digital Cameras and Equipment section of the forum, where it might attract more responses. There are a few Lumix users on here whose enthusiasm for the camera is matched by the quality of the work they produce with it. So, it's definitely an option.

Hello Chris. Welcome to CiC.
Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location (city etc) under 'Location'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts and so folks will know where you are.
You don't say what you existing level of experience and/or particular photographic interests are. If you have any questions about photography, then there will always be someone on here willing to help provide the answer. I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Hi,
My name is Leo and I'm from the Netherlands. I'm 56 years old and photography is my passion for 40 years. Found this website by Google, searching for information, and I liked it a lot!.
I like different kinds of styles like people, landscape, architecture, animals and since a while I'm working with models. So don't expect me to be an expert on a specific topic! I'm trying to have the best results by learning and practicing, giving my best shot (literally and figurative :)) I'm an complete autodidact, and therefore always open for constructive critics. I've not find my way around here yet, but I hope to do so in a while.
Hope to speak you soon!
Kind Regards, Leo

Welcome, Leo. I hope you've seen that CiC is very much a forum that seeks to provide support and advice to people to help them improve their photography. I hope you will feel able to share all that experience, as well as continuing to enjoy being part of this community.
