What sort of experience do you have at this time. Do you consider yourself a beginner? Or someone with a bit of knowledge and experience?

And where are you? You can edit your profile, if you wish, and put in your location (city/town/area/country). It's always good to knwo where CiC members are in the world.

Hi...I am a mom with grown kids who finally moved out. My husband works overseas and we travel extensively. I bought a Cannon G10 when it came out and it has been a great point and shoot with pretty good quality, but I am wanting to upgrade and get a really nice camera with some different lenses. I want to learn as much as I can about what all the very confusing lenses are and make a decision whether to buy a Nikkon D7000 or the comparable Cannon. I am strictly amateur, but have taken a few pictures that seem pretty good and I want to learn more and grow into a new place. I hope to get that on this forum. Planning on taking some classes also at the local college to get better once I buy the new camera.

Liz - a very warm welcome. Hopefully, you've already had a look around the tutorials and the forum and found out that CiC is an online community very much focused on learning and on helping people develop knowledge and skills. I hope you find that it's a very friendly environment.

Thank you Donald. Took a look at your work and it is dramatic, beautiful, sometimes stark, sometimes thought provoking. I am lookinf forward to learning a lot on here. I am out of my depth with some of the info, but will ask lots of questions. Already got an answer on something I asked.

Wayne. well, I think you've found the right place. A big welcome to CIC.

By the way, I like 'Pt Douglas'. You can almost breath the sea air and feel the wind in your face.

CiC is very much focused towards helping and supporting people to learn and develop their photographic skills and knowledge. So, as well as reading what others wrote and studying the tutorials, please do feel able to ask questions and also give your point of view. And, of course, post up some images for discussion.

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.

We can of course give you feedback on your pictures, but this welcome thread in this forum isn't the best place to start.

Try one of these two depending upon the subject (this would go in the first one);
Nature & Architecture
People & Pets

Also, for 'chapter and verse' on how to post images, read this, so you get them bigger in future.

Hello Everybody, Reuben here.

Getting back into photography. I purchased a Nikon D3000, I figured this would be a good entry level camera. Many years ago I bought a Konica FS1 Motor Drive and still have it. Can't get parts for it.

I am looking for a macro lens for the D3000, I wish to do extreme close up photography, like the veins in a leaf etc.

Can anyone suggest what I should be looking for, I think I would prefer a genuine Nikon lens rather than other?

Thought I should add, I'm in Sydney Australia!

You can also put in your location so that it appears alongside your posts.

I have to confess to not knowing where OR is. Do you mean Oregon in the United States?

Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it appears alongside all of your posts, just like mine at the left of this message. I think CiC is an excellent resource to help with your learning. Both this forum and the tutorials offer guidance and advice on how to improve your knowledge and skills. So, please do post any questions that you have and, of course, post up some of your images.

I'm from New York city and have been in and around photography for over 40 years. I've had the pleasure of working in a darkroom when chemical balance and constant temperature were key parameters. I enjoy the science and technology of photography as much as the art of photography. My training as an engineer helps me to understand and appreciate the move into the digital world of ladder networks, image resolution and sensor size.

I’m an amateur enthusiast that shoots the what he sees around him with his trusty Nikon D300. And, like many, I can’t wait to see the new product plans from Nikon
