John - You are very welcome.
I hope CiC is the forum that meets your needs and hopes for an online community. You'll see that the emphasis is very much on learning and on people sharing knowledge and experience and not being precious about holding on the 'their secrets'. So, please ask questions, join in discussion and, of course, post images.

Hello, My name is Jane and I confess that I have never posted on a forum before! I am retired ( but still 30 in my head ) and have been a keen photographer since a child. Always looking to aspire to better photography ! :)
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I am new too and see you have a 5D MK 1. I have a 5D MK 11 but any tips would be helpful. Which lens do you use ?

Hi Jane,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me; a NikonFan (sorry).
Where in the world are you?
It would be useful if you could edit your profile and put that in Location and "Jane" in the Real Name field.
Formalities over, what do you prefer to photograph these days?
All the best,
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, will edit profile - UK Devon. I enjoy all aspects but I guess I really prefer creative / abstract. And you ?
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Thanks for you welcome. Enjoyed your posts on 500px.com. I'm new to forums :) and having trouble finding my way around.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Jane,
I use a sigma 15-30 for landscape wok and a canon 35-135 for anything else, the canon i bought second hand in Manchester.
Just to digress i have spent some happy times in Devon in Bampton.:)

You'll fine that CiC is pretty straightforward and uncomplicated when it comes to the forum structure. Some other fora have many, many sections for all sorts of particular interest groups. We keep it fairly simple on here.
Essentially, there are two areas for posting images for comment & criticism - 'Nature & Architecture' and 'People and Pets'. Nearly everything fits under one of those. If it doesn't, it doesn't matter. Just pick one and post into it anyway. Nobody gets too excited if it's in the 'wrong' place. Getting it posted is the main thing, it doesn't really matter where.
Just click on the 'Forum' tab on the menu bar at the top and you can see how the various sections are organised.
If you have any questions - just shout.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello! You all seem to be well seasoned and into your photographic prime! I'm a 27 year old just starting out...well about 2 years REALLY INTO the art. I have been working with a pro photographer friend here and there. I am moderately comfortable with terms like ISO, F-STOP etc and I am progressing quickly. The problem is; it seems that my passion and artistic ability is superseding my budget! Friends family and even strangers ask me to do do portraits and some have purchased my prints. Guess what I'm shooting with...A canon power shot SX20is!
What brought me here today is that I am looking to upgrade. I cannot decide between the Rebel T3i or the EOS 60D. I want to be able to do macro, and some portraits in low light (ie; babies, children). I've read many reviews but seem to think that the Rebel will focus for me better (without having to purchase a macro lens at this time). However, I have an old macro lens from an outdated Canon...(quantaray 58mm 1.5m/4.9ft 1:16.5) I'm wondering if that will work on my SLR. So new and so many things to consider when I go SLR...I have people lined up ready for shoots and to let me practice on them. Any advice is welcomed! Thanks in advance!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi ever felt lost not knowing what to do? If I am in the right place I will soon find out and it not I may never know. New to photography, have been interested in it for many years (bought a 35mm Petri in '73) used it a lot but then life happened. Bought a Canon SX10 is in July 09, played with it but now would like to get serious about photography. It is a good tool for my life. Not till this summer did I realize how much I was missing. Any how the professionalism I see here is great and I do want to learn. So am attaching (hopefully) some photos I have taken off and on since July 09. If this ends up some place besides where it should, please let me know - some how:)

Kate - In some cases very well-seasoned and way past our prime .... except maybe for photographic knowledge and skill!
Great to have you along on CiC. A warm welcome.
I see you've already cracked how to use the forum, by replicating this post in the camera & equipment section.
As for your passion, knowledge and skill superseding your budget - join the club. It's one of those passions that requires enormous self-discipline to stop yourself being swept away in the excitement of getting that bit of gear that you would love .... but really don't need.
Anyway - the good thing about being part of CiC is that people don't get hung up on what sort of light capturing box you have round your neck. It's about what you do with it.

Yes ... and I would safely bet that every person who's in any way serious about photography has felt the same and continues to do so on a regular basis. So, welcome to the club.
I would also bet that, from where you are now, you're journey will be something along the lines of:
- Shoot everything and anything in all sorts of styles
- Improve knowledge and skills and begin to realise that the pictures you're making are better than what you were making previously
- Either slowly or suddenly, the vision of what really you really want to do in photography emerges and you start to focus your attention on particular subjects and.or styles
So, welcome to the journey Fred. At times it will be totally frustrating and you'll wonder why you ever spent good money on this stupid camera equipment. And at other times it will give you the most marvellous feelings of elation.
I see you've been in the 'How do I post images' thread checking on that. And, as you wrote, 'it worked'. Well done.

Nrupatunga - Hello and welcome to CiC.
You do noit tell us where you are. You can, if you wish, go into Edit Profile and insert your location details; fro example, your country. Ity will tehn appear alongside all your posts. It is good for people to be able to see where in the world a member resides.
I hope you find that this site, both forum and the tutorials, do help you learn skills in photography.
