Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (archive)

Hallo to everyone ... is this correct to introduce themselves ?
I hope yes, becouse I don't speack english very well ... I'm OlyRoby (alias Roberto) and I live in Genoa (Italy) and I get interested in photography from the first '80 years ... about 30 years of the 48 years of my life .
More of this "time" was spent in the darkroom, where I learned to love the black & white ... and the "HP5".
I prefer macro and portrait ... but in general I love any kind of photographic experience .
I am a "fan" (and user) of Olympus brand, from the beginning ... and I'm very happy when found other "like me", becouse we are now in a few .
What I can say, more than "nice to meet you" ... ?!?!

Hi All, I am obviously new to this forum, hailing from a suburb in Cape Town South Africa.

I am not into photography for long...so 6 years.

My first digital camera was a Canon Powershot A430, which I upgraded last year to a Canon Powershot SX20Is. wherever I go over weekends, I take my camera with, and is just crazy for taking pictures.

I joined here with the hope of meeting people with the same passion and also to pick up some valuable tips, since I am a total novice. I trust that I will enjoy my time with you guys.:)

I have had a passion for photography for many years however have never thought i would be in a position to be able to get a good camera or have the time to dedicate to my passion. I love to take photos of animals mostly! Extreme animal lover and just love to look at photos and check out the expressions on their face - wondering what they are thinking.

Hello! I am Alex, 23 and totally new to photography!
I always liked taking pics, but I used to have the settings in P and do nothing really..
However lately I obtained a Nikon D300 as a gift and I started finding that photography is much harder than pressing a button!

Alex, if that is what you produce when you are totally new to photography, then I look forward with pleasure to what you will show us once you know something about it (photography). That is a very good introductory image.

Please do not be concerned if your images at the moment are not of the same standard as some others you see on here. But please also note that many people are either too critical of the quality of their work or wildly over-confident that there work is of a high standard. I think it much better to be in the former category, because that suggests that the person wishes to learn and improve, which is why CiC exists.

So, it is good to have you join as a member. There are many poeple on here who are very happy to share their knowledge and experioence to help others learn new skills. All you have to do is ask either through questions or by posting some images and inviting comment and criticism.

If that is the case (and I have no reason to doubt it) then I'm sure it's not unconnected to the passion. I think the two go together. You can be technically brilliant, but if you don't have that passion, you're not going to put 'you' into the images you produce.

Hello everyone, my name is Niomi. I live in sunny Queensland, Australia. I am extremely new to DSLR photography. I've had a Nikon D3000 for a while now and only ever used it in Auto! Anyway, have just signed up to an online course so hopefully will learn something!

Looking forward to learning as much as possible from everyone. I have one million questions but my head is spinning at the moment and I've only just started module one!:eek:

You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

You lucky person. I left home at 7am this morning for a shoot in an area where I know there are some wonderful images to be made. It's been a 150 mile round trip. And it poured rain.

It made for a wonderful atmosphere, but even with teh storm jacket over the camera and lens, it was pretty impossible. This I might have one, or maybe two .... or probably none. Just off to find out.

Welcome to CiC. The first thing I hope we can achieve, with the help of your online course, is to get you off using Auto and onto those settings where you start taking charge of what's happening.

I hope you find that CiC (both the tutorials and this forum) are amongst the most useful learning resources available on the internet. The one thing about this forum is there is no such thing as a dumb question. If you think about it - ask it. Please don't worry that it's 'too simple' a question. You'll find there's an awful lot of knowledge and experience available on here that people are willing to share.

By the way, you can edit your profile and put your location in, That way it will appear alongside all your posts, the same as mine does alongside this message.

Thanks Donald for the kind words! I think I will be asking an awful lot of questions as there is so much to learn, just to master the basics. Very daunting and exciting at the same time!! I'm so glad to have found CiC, it's amazing!!

Good luck with the shots! Hope you get something after all the effort. Some rain here would be nice although we are fast approaching the wet season so I won't wish the days away yet!
