Hi, as you can see from my profile, my name is Emma and I live in West London, UK.

I've always enjoyed taking photo's, using the 'point & shoot' method. About 18 months ago I treated myself to the Canon Eos 450d and happily take photo's whenever I can, although this seems to mainly be portraits as I feel I have little creativity for anything at the moment.

I've decided it's about time I learn to use my camera properly and not just stick with the auto modes, so started a part time course yesterday.

Looking forward to going through the tutorials and getting tips and hints from the pro's.

I can think of a few worse subjects to get 'stuck' on, afterall, people never get tired of seeing new faces.

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.

What a cute fluffy little subject you have there, first piece of advice would be to get down to his/here level and take the pictures, but we don't normally do critique in the welcome thread, so if I may, I'll refer you to the forum guidance on posting for critique and, if you need help to get those images appearing bigger, to the image posting guide. Specifically, for making the attached images bigger, the bit headed Part 2 in this post.

Hi everyone,

I have been exploring creative photography for about a year or so, and find it a lot of fun, in particular the digital editing aspect of it. So far, I have always shot with a simple camera (Panasonic LX5 compact) which I can take anywhere (I'm a bit of a hiker/mountaineer). I feel like I am outgrowing my local camera club which tends to be rather traditional (bit boring :P), and I was looking for further knowledge and help. I stumbled upon this website and I was amazed at the depth and clarity of the tutorials here. I like to learn from helpful critique of my images from more experienced photographers, and hope to share ideas here

We have many members with cameras like that, it is no bar to good photography, and in fact I soon intend to buy something similar myself (even though I have a DSLR) so I have a camera with me at all times.

Having got my first (real) digital camera (canon 60D) on my way over to the UK, now im hooked and would like to learn alot more!!! Most of the photos on here are truly AMAZING!!!!

My pics of choice are portraits, scenery (beaches since i come from Aussieland) and cars..... I love Cars!!!
I would like to learn more techniques for shooting these cars.. especially at night...

Welcome Mel. I'm very glad you found CiC. Like I've said on this thread and in other posts, CiC is all about learning. People on here are more than willing to answer questions and make suggestions.

And, of course, one of the best ways of learning is not only to study the images from other people, but to post your own up and invite constructive comment and criticism.
