You lucky, lucky person! Hello, Liz. Welcome to CiC.
Between this forum and the tutorials, CiC aims to be a resource that people can use as they wish to grow and develop their knowledge and skills. There is no such thing as a dumb question on here, so please don't be shy about firing in any queries or questions that you have. There will always be somebody along in a short time that can offer an opinion or an answer.
I have been taking snapshots for many years and recently took a field class. This excited me to take better photographs.
Hello and welcome.
I'd guess that you're name is Scott, but in case I'm wrong, ......... You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
I think (hope) CiC is a resource that can help you in that quest to start producing pictures as opposed to snapshots. The learning curve and the discoveries you make on it are exciting and, at times challenging. But as you start to look at the world in a very different way and really start to see all the things that you never saw before, you'll start to feel that you're looking at things as a photographer.
Hi everyone,
This is Madhurima! I am new to this forum and even newer to the art of photography! Despite my novice status I aspire to become a dedicated learner and devotee of this form of visual communication (thats my definition of photography)!
Posting my first "novice shot". Hope to get critical appraisal on it which will definitely help me to learn more!
Madhurima - A warm welcome to CiC.
As you've maybe seen already, CiC styles itself a learning resource. Sharing knowledge and information and helping people develop their skills is the primary purpose of the site. So I hope it helps you as you start out on your journey of photographic discovery.
Look at the work of others. Study it and ask what works about it. Or what doesn't. Ask lots of questions. And, of course, please do post up some of your own work and invite constructive comment and criticism from people on here.

Hi my name is Andre, I've been taking photo's for many years and would like to learn more about the art of photography.
Yunusa
I am very happy to welcome you to CiC. I hope that as well as you benefiting from the contributions of others, that less experienced members will be able to benefit from your knowledge and that you will join in all aspects of the learning community that exists on this forum.
I look forward to seeing your work posted on to forum.
Hello Andre and welcome to CiC.
Learning is what CiC is about. And amongst the best ways to do that is: a) ask questions and, b) post up images and invite constructive comment and criticism.
I look forward to seeing you take part in the discussions and to posting your images.
Hi, Jack here,
I've been a member here for a couple of months and find this site to be really well done and a boon to photographers of all levels. Much appreciation to whomever owns/runs this site, a lot of work I'm sure but greatly appreciated.
I was BIG on 35mm photography for years (still have my Nikon FM2, mainly into wildlife photography. Life happened and I went out less and less. I recently bought a Nikon P500 (yeah, I know, NOT DSLR but..."It's a poor carpenter who blames his hammer,") and have begun shooting again. I may even start bringing my 35mm along.
I now find myself drawn more to the artistic side of photography, trying to find those images that speak to me and, hopefully, to others. I've won a couple of contests here and that encourages me to keep on seeing, shooting, editing and posting.
Thanks to all involved,
Jack
P.s. If anyone knows of a place I can send slides to have digitized I would greatly appreciate it.
Hello Jack. Thanks for putting a post in here. You are, of course, already one of the 'old hands' on CiC and you're work shows the contribution that you make.
As far as the site is concerned, Sean (McQ) is the inspiration and brains behind it all. It was his vision that led to the site being created.
Colin (Southern), then Dave (Humphries) and now me have each been invited by Sean to join him in the Admin/Moderator duties. We try to assist and not cause too much mayhem. Rob (Marshall) was previously also a Moderator, but has now left the forum.
You've posed a good question and one I'd like to ask myself, albeit in relation to the UK. Why don't you go in to, say, the 'General Photography' section and start up a new thread asking this question. And then, if I may, I'll come in with a post behind you asking if any UK members know where I can get the same thing done over here.

Donald,
Thanks for your compliments; sadly I visited the link to your pictures and I see I have some work ahead of me. I'd like to think
that you just happen to be lucky enough to live in a very photogenic part of the world but I know it's not what you see but how you
see it. A really great body of work!
I am going to run with your suggestion and post my question on slides to digital in the GP section.
Thanks again,
Jack
Hi everyone, my name is Sue and I'm really looking forward to all this forum has to offer. I've always enjoyed photography but my interest went up several gears last year when I got my DSLR and now I absolutely love it I'm learning all the time, and hope to learn even more with your help.
Another new guy here, hoping to find helpful advice to help improve the quality of my photographs. I had a long background shooting 35mm film, as a math geek I found it fun to play around with various formulas and see the results. Been a long time since the last roll got developed and I have since moved on to digital, which I love if for no other reason than the unlimited learning opportunities it offers. I'm shooting a Cannon Xsi (450D) these days, still locked into the manual side experimenting with various settings, dang it is so much nicer to have the results pop up instantly (although I do miss spending time in a dark room.) Main interest right now is in nature and macro photography, I really love seeing just how far I can go with flowers (before you ask me to post examples, read the profile :-) Looking forward to learning much from anyone who has advice, tips, suggestions, words of encouragement, or anything else they enjoy sharing with their brothers and sisters. Namaste
What DSLR is it that you've got, Sue? Whichever it is, I'm glad that it fired your interest and that that has led you to CiC. I certainly hope that your learning will progress as a result of being on here. Ask lots of questions. Post lots of images and ask for comment. And just dive into discussions looking for clarification if things are written that you don't understand.
Hello
I hope you quickly feel comfortable enough here in CiC to be able to share your real name with us. As you'll have seen, the vast majority to go with our real name - CiC is that sort of forum.
I hope we will see examples of your work both in the competition threads and in the sections seeking constructive comment and criticism. And I hope you will both benefit from and contribute to, the culture of learning that exists, with people more than willing to share knowledge and experience.

Hi there. My name is Karl, I live in the Scottish Highlands and have been interested in photography for a few years. I love the outdoors, so am really passionate about showing off the stunning landscapes from where I live. I also travel a lot and try to capture the places I visit.

My name is Susan Hoffman. I've just signed up to this forum. I'm a newspaper editor for a small-town paper in Florida; with a small staff, I have to do a lot of the reporting and photography myself. I have dabbled in photography for many years and am interested in learning more.
Hello,
I have never joined a forum or followed a thread, so I will be a bit slow. I am learning a lot about computers, the web, and various software products. I have a website, but haven't updated it for over a year, so the photos are old. I will figure out how to post some here, and I welcome comments, critiques, suggestions. I will upload my most recent favorite shot, which I took the day before the deer ate all the apples.
