Hi! I'm packing for a trip to southern Africa next week so I was poking around the website for any tips I could find and ran across the forum. I use a Canon T1i and have a Macro lens and a Tamron 18-270. I really just play with all kinds of settings to see what happens and sometimes I get some pretty creative shots. Do you have any thoughts on early morning and evening shots while on game drives in Africa? I'd love to learn from you this week and then apply it next week and for the 18 day trip.

I'd recommend reposting the question in the General Photography Discussion forum as a new thread with a suitable thread title to attract answers, for more replies.

I have no experience in Africa, but the golden hour is usually a good time to shoot, unless the animals aren't up to much then (and I wouldn't know).

Hi to all. First, a confession: I am no photographer. I do snapshots- pets and grandkids and adventures in my backyard. My husband does the stuff you all do, though he says not as well. He recently joined your community, and has nothing but glowing accolades for it- this is his first online community. He is convinced that if I only learn a bit more and associate with the right people ,i.e. himself and yourselves, I will grow to love this as an art. So cheers, and here's to marriage and shared (?) dreams. You all seem very nice and seem to have mastered more stuff than I knew even existed.

Hi all, I'm Riley and a recently purchased my first slr, a Canon T2i w/ 18-55 lens. I've been reading, playing and enjoying the learning process. I like to be ski, climb and be outside and now take my camera along, scenery, landscape and wildlife. I have a feeling i'm going to want reach out futher than my 18-55, and may add new glass some day. I've been reading about the cannon 70-200 EF f2.8 and got to play w/ it at a local store, i shouldn't have tried the good stuff. I'm recently retired and doing this just for fun and look forward to learing from the group.

My name is Bill. I am recently retired and moved to Florida from cold New England. For about 30 years I have been taking pictures mostly of people with my beloved K-1000. It may sound crazy but I still miss it. Sort of like you first girl frend. I shoot now with a Canon eos 40D. With the extra time, I am trying to figure out where my next interest would be. Probably landscape including all the horses in centeral Florida.

I'm Bronny, from New Zealand, I enjoy my photographing and hope to be able to get into it a more now my kids are older (8 -11 years), I have a Canon 7d which I purchased this year after having the 350d. I've only learnt this year (before 7d) how to shoot in Manual. It feels good to be off the auto and its great to have more control over what I take. Kids are my main focus, and not always mine and I hope to get into landscape, which I love the look of and look forward to trying to create....

Delighted to hear you've made the move away from the 'auto' setting and are now flying solo on the Manual setting. Like you say, it's about taking control.
