Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi there,
I am Rieke, a young lady from Germany living in Sydney. I bought my first DSLR camera in February this year and have fallen in love with taking pictures since using it for the first time. Being amazed by photography since ages I do not have a clue why I have not started learning more about photography earlier. I guess photography is one of these things where learning is never finished so I am happy that I finally started :-).

Rieke - You are absolutely right. And if you are able to continue seeing that as exciting and a journey of discovery, then the passion for learning and improving will always remain. And, as you can see at the top of the page, CiC is a resource for learning.
So, a very warm welcome. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.
By the way, you can edit your profile and enter your location. It will then appear under your name in all your posts and people will always know where you are.

Delighted to hear you've made the move away from the 'auto' setting and are now flying solo on the Manual setting. Like you say, it's about taking control.
Hopefully you've seen that CiC is a place to ask whatever questions you may have in the knowledge that people on here will always be willing to share their knowledge and experience.
Thankyou Donald, i've found this a fantastic place, everyone is so welcoming :) Still reading a few older threads :)

Hello!! I am only a few months into a new and beautiful world viewed through a small window. I have had my Sony DSLR 300a for about 4 yrs but just recently took some classes at my area techanical college. Beginning Digital and intermediate photography. This has taught me the fundamentials of my camera and has me taken picture in the manual mode of my camera. I have 2 lenses 18-70mm & 55-200mm. Yes I have a cheap tripod. it does the trick. I am still lin the learning stage. I have learned that out of the many pictures taken only a handful are frame worthy. I have adobe lightroom which I need more time in. Any and all help is welcome. The school group has a few of us that get together from time to time to go on field trips. It gets us shooting. I am not looking for a career but to enhance my outlook thru the viewfinder. Thaks for listening and hope to hear from some of you in the future. Thanks, Eddie

Hi Eddie,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us, especially if you recommend us to your shooting school group :)
Well, you have now heard from one of us, but the trick here is to just dive straight in and post questions and better still, images for critique, this may help get the most from us; HELP THREAD: Guide to posting images for comment.
Look forward to seeing something from you soon.

Good afternoon.
My name is Jake, from Huddersfield, in glorious Yorkshire, England. I've been taking photographs for as long as I can remember, but have only recently (the past two years) taken it up more vigorously! I am here to seek advice and feedback from veterans and like minded individuals like yourselves. I'm looking forward to getting myself stuck in and trying out some of the competitions!
Cheers, Jake

Hi Jake,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.
We also look forward to seeing/hearing more from you soon, the best way to learn, apart from practice, is to ask questions here.
Talking of vigorously, I must cut the grass.

Hello,
I'm Attila, from Budapest, Hungary. I enjoy taking pictures, and I try to get the best out of them.
I have had only an old, very basic compact camera so far, but I have recently upgraded to a Panasonic G10K. So now I try to "take my skills to the next level". I hope I'll receive a lot of constructive criticism.
I registered mostly because I've loved the in-depth tutorials, and the atmosphere of the community.
It's not much, but I've made these pictures so far, that I think was worth uploading:

(Sorry, this is a hungarian site so it might be extremely slow for some of you)
Best regards,
Attila

Hi Attila,
Great to have you join the community, I have a friend whom I recommended a G10 to, a couple of years ago and he's still very pleased with it. So I think it is a good choice and while there may be newer models now, it is the photographer that makes the biggest difference.
I was going to say "I had a quick look at your site", but alas; you are correct, it is quite slow to load, I got the first page ok, but anything from there wouldn't work :(
I'll have another try later.
UPDATE: Working now, the red car shots had me fooled initially ;)
Don't be shy asking questions, and do post images for critique.

Hi Prem,
Firstly could I ask you to Edit your Profile and enter your name and current Location (city/state & USA will be enough), plus your first name into the appropriate fields please? It helps enormously when we are providing feedback and answering questions.
If you haven't seen it, this advises the best way to get critique of your shots; HELP THREAD: Guide to posting images for comment and I look forward to seeing some soon.
I am guessing you mean a Canon 5D - is that the original or MkII version?

Hi Raj,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, always good to have another Nikon shooter :)
Could I ask you to Edit your Profile and pop "Kerala, India" in to the Location field and ideally "Raj" into the Real Name field please, I agree the latter isn't really necessary, given your username ;)
Yes, we make good friends here and always provide constructive critique on images, here are a couple of links either you, or other new members, may find helpful;

Hello everyone at CiC!
I have just joined this forum after finding the website looking for tips about lenses online. I have been a member of a forum before (not photography related) and so was excited to find a forum on this site which seems to friendly (as well as some spectacular images and tutorials). I am a keen amateur photographer. I have always worked with a "point and click" but aspired to progress to a camera that would afford me more control. I have a Sony NEX-5 and am hoping to start "playing" with different techniques and hopefully over the coming years invest in some good pieces of kit (lenses) that will help to create stronger images.
A little about me? I'm 30 years old and about to move to Cambridge, England in two weeks. I enjoy taking photographs of family, but also buildings and parks. I like the sense of capturing a moment, feeling or sense of scale. I'm basically hoping to learn from more experienced users.

Hi Len (?),
I think we have a couple of other NEX users here already, so you're not alone :)
Could you Edit your profile and put your first name into the Real Name field and a Location ("Cambridge, UK" will do and save going back to update later) - thanks.
Are you moving far? (within UK, or from further afield)

Re: Hi All- I am excited to be a new member.
Hi everyone
I have been taking photos on and off for many years - mainly shots of family, holidays and landscapes. In recent years I've been taking photos when out running - sometimes the scenery, sometimes the runners, sometimes both.
I started to take photography a bit more seriously with the purchase of a DSLR earlier this year, which coincided with picking up an injury that has curtailed my running.
My family and I live in Cambridgeshire and I use a Nikon D3100 DSLR and a couple of Fuji FinePix compact cameras.
