Thread: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (archive)

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi. Bad Beagle aka Steve

Love photography, so little time and skill though.

Wish I persued photographic interests as a teenager, will now encourage my son to do what I should have done.

I had a Cosina CT7.... anyone remember those ? Then an ME Super and now a D100. Had I been in time for October photos this would have been my entry...

Ashok - The most important part is to never stop striving to improve. And that is where CiC can hopefully help. People are more than willing to share their knowledge and experience on here, so please do ask questions, post up examples of your work and request comments and join in the discussions.

I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and a very warm welcome to you.

    Dave

I see (in How do I post images here?) that you've cracked posting images into threads. Which is always a good start. Well done.

Hello and welcome. I hope you find that CiC is the sort of forum that appeals to you. What you'll find, I hope, apart from the occasional irreverent and non-sensicial discussion that seems to just appear out of nowhere from time-to-time (which everyone seems to enjoy), that you will get honest, open, constructive discussion and comment on here. As it says at the top of the page, this is very much a learning community and we hope everyone joins in in the spirit of us all helping each other learn adn develop as photographers.

    I hope you enjoy it.

Edit - Just as a footnote, Dave, So that you don't continue to get people asking you where you are, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it appears alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello Magda and welcome. The name of the site comes from the fact that the site owner, Sean (McQ), now resident in California (well someone has to be!), began CiC when he was studying at Cambridge.

Great to have you here and I hope you find the forum as stimulating and helpful as the tutorials.

Hi I'm new to this group but pleased to find such a great site! I'm Malcolm and a retired medical scientist with a strong interest ( passion) in digital photography. I began photography in the UK and now reside in the mid west USA. I shoot with Nikon D700 and I especially enjoy nature type photography ie. flowers, butterflies, landscapes. Looking foward to joining you

With Malcolm turned into Malky for your username, you're not a Scot by any chance?

Even if not, you are still very, very welcome Malcolm. Glad you're finding CiC to be a good site. I hope that continues for a long time to come.

As you probably have already seen, it is very much about people helping other people with their learning and development of knowledge and skills. I very much hope you will share in that, as both student and teacher.

Hello Donald and CiC community. I decided to join this wonderful site since I have been stopping by so much for information. My go to is currently a Nikon D700. I primarily shoot outdoors but I now have a strong interest in studio lighting techniques. I'm here to gobble-up everyone's knowledge and use it to take some great looking studio shots. Of course, and it goes without saying, I will return the favor by helping out others as much as I can.

    Thanks, Mel

And that captures exactly what CiC is all about.

Welcome, Mel. Thank you for 'signing up'. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.

Hi Everybody! My name is Maureen from Illinois. I've been happily taking beautiful pictures for a couple of years now but I have a problem. I only know how to take pictures in automatic mode which drives my photography friends crazy!! That's the reason I joined this forum. I need to learn more about my camera in order to take better pictures. I'm also looking forward to learning more about Photoshop which I find user-unfriendly.

You can check out some of my pictures at:

I would love some constructive criticism, too!!!

Hi folks and this is my introduction as a new member saying hello and hope I have done this correctly by pressing the right button! [never have been sure of expression "reply to thread" and whether anything I type in is in answer to someone else's conversation or not. so-anyway I like to use fast glass and flash not at all if possible and my major concern at present is hdr and how to use it properly. I have been aware for some time that dslr eyesight is different to human and interesting things can be observed shooting into almost darkness once camera has been persuaded to fire outside normal parameter settings and I think hdr seems to be a reasonable way to go now and how I found out about Cic [sometimes I learn quickly] was by googling hdr. My website is linked to some of the happysnaps I shoot. Cheers. Mark

Hi everyone! I am a Grandma with a camera. I love taking pictures but that is all they are just pictures. I want to learn to take awesome photos! CIC has so many learning tools, combine that with the expertice that the site members add and I am sure to be on my way to taking "great photos".

You've arrived in the place, I hope, where the the world of 'auto' can be left behind and where people will support you through the transition into a 'real photographer' who flips about between things like Av, Tv and Manual without even thinking about it.

One of the first things to do is maybe get in about the tutorials here on CiC. Have a look through the contents and make a note of the ones that you think might be the most important to start with. And people on here will support you with that learning.

So, a big welcome to CiC. The adventure starts here!

Mark - You have. So, hello and welcome. Thanks for joining CiC.

CiC is about learning and you'll find lots of people on here very willing to share knowledge and experience. All you've got to do is ask.

We've already said hello in other parts of the forum, Angie. But hello again in this thread.

I certainly hope that CiC can be a major part of your learning kit as you go forward. I get the feeling that you are already aware that the learning curve requires lots and lots of practice. There are times when you'll feel it's all a waste of time and you think that you're never going to learn and that this photography idea was stupid and you're going to give it all up and sell the equipment on e-bay.

That's the time to post up a message, have a good rant and then ask more questions. There will always be someone that will come along on here to provide support and answers.
