Hello, everyone. My name is Paul, I've had a photography interest for over 50 years and have dabbled in several film formats 35mm, 4x5, 120 and currently shooting full-frame digital (35mm). This is my primary retirement activity and I can now give it the time and effort to build my craft. My favorite subject is landscape photography. I enjoy the digital post processing having had a wet darkroom during my 4x5 days. My hands no longer smell like fixer. I'm looking forward to learning some new tricks for this "old dog." Being an "amateur" I can enjoy photography on my own terms, shooting what, where and when I like. I donate my photography services to my church for staff/new members' portraits and special events.

New member, looking forward to learning how to capture quality images on my new Canon 7D. Loved taking photos years ago with a Canon Ftb, and my favorite three lenses. Decided to challenge myself with this new camera. Here is one of the first photos I took ---

Hi All, At last I now have the time to concentrate on my new challange. Recently retired and got the world trip out of the way I am being somewhat hopeful that I will soon be able to master my Canon D1000 DSLR. My photography interest is in the macro field and have acquired a 100mm 2.8 lens. Any tips, tricks etc will be most welcome.

Whilst on holidays I did NOT take the new camera with me as I did not want an additional bag to lug about for 3 months. I am still kicking myself for this, instead I relied on my Canon power shot :rolleyes:which takes a good photo but cannot be enlarges, hence my wild life shots will have to remain 6 x 8 (sigh).

This brings me to ask, what is a good telephoto lens. I have the Canon 55-250 zoom which I find OK. Can I use a Sigma or Tamron lens on my camera? and will it have auto focus and image stabilazation?

In closing, I reckon that this is the best photography site I have come across ans believe me I have seen plenty of them.

Hi, I have just joined as a new member from Adelaide, South Australia. Used to run a professional photography business back in the film days, using 120 and 4 X 5 film, usually processing my own films. Have been out of the business for 25 years now, and just starting to learn about digital. Have a Canon 450D with kit lenses and a Nissin 866 flash, and have just ordered a set of studio lights and some reflectors. Can't wait for them to arrive next week.

I'm Helen from Ontario, Canada. I came across this forum by chance on a google search and was really impressed by the content and helpful approach. Am relatively new to digital photography and have just upgraded my camera to one with full manual control and raw capability ( Panasonic FZ100) . I am confident that, on CiC, you will find many people who are very willing to provide a helping hand. All you have to do is ask.

I am unskilled either in internet and photography. But I want to learn both. I need to have a new project in my life. I decided it would be take great pictures. I start reading the manual of the camera. Trying to take pictures and that is it. I play a lot of golf, then I will take pictures from golf courses. So to start. In january I will go to my first course in photography. And I will buy a new camera.
