Welcome Graham,
Great to have another Kiwi onboard!
Printing is a "learning curve" (put politely). Basically, what everyone wants are "prints that match the screen", but the reality is that the screen uses additive red, green, and blue light (over about a 6 stop dynamic range), whist a printer uses subtractive cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink to block colours (with about a 4 stop dynamic range) - so in reality, they're as different as chauk and cheese. Best advice I can give is to just accept that prints will NEVER print exactly as they do onscreen - the "trick" is in understanding and managing the differences (you'll get "fussier" as your eye improves).
Just sing out if you need a hand though.
