Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, my name is Bob and I live just outside of Philadelphia, PA, USA. I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place but nothing else comes up, so I apologize if this is in the wrong place.
I used to do a lot of photography back in the late 70's and early 80's but then put the camera down. Then in 2006 I decided to get back into it and ran smack into the digital age so I feel like I have had to start all over again. I am looking forward to getting some feedback on my work and I have already learned a lot from the tutorials. THANKS for them.

Bob - You are in exactly the right place. Hello and welcome. Thanks for signing-in to CiC.
My own story, about rediscovering photography and finding out out that it was all pixels and sensors, is very similar to your own. And CiC certainly was a major learning resource for me. I hope it continues to be so for you as well.
By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hi, I am Ed, an amateur photographer from Rhode Island. I started taking pics over 50 years ago with a Brownie. I am now using a Canon 7d (I finally went digital and bought my first computer about 2 years ago). I am looking forward to some feedback and contributing what I can.

Well, we can check the 'Lots of Experience' box!
Wonderful to have you on here, Ed. A warm welcome to you.
As you suggest, life on CiC is very much a two-way street with people hopefully contributing to help others with their learning, as well as learning themselves.
So, I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Hai everyone!
I'm Azman Bin Abdullah. I'm from Malaysia. My current cameras are Nikon D300S and D700.
I'm still new in this field and I believe that there are lot of other things that I need to learn, especially in landscape photography and I do believe that this is the right place for me to learn. I really hope that you all can guide me.:)
So sorry because I have poor English...:(
Thank You.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Greetings from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
I live on 40 acres in the central part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula with my wife and 27 Siberian Huskies. I have been studying to learn photography since I got my first DSLR in 2005, mostly on my own. My main interest is nature and landscape photography, but I occasionally venture into other areas. My current main camera is a 5D MkII, but still use my 40D at times. I joined CiC in early 2009, but was not able to participate due to other responsibilities. While my available time is still limited at the moment, I hope to be able to participate in the near future, so I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself.

A 5D AND a 40D. Now you're just making me jealous!
Hello Paul. Delighted that you've managed to jump in to the forum and I hope you will be able to take part more than you've been able to up to now.
27 Huskies? That sounds like quite a handful.

Hi all,
greetings from the county of Essex in the UK.
I've only recently got the Photography 'bug'. I started with a Bridge camera about 18 months ago, but quickly moved up to a DSLR. Love the look and content on the site and look forward to participating with you all. :)
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
The individual linked an article here on diffraction. Which I found very interesting. Many people seem to get all wrapped up about it and refuse to shoot smaller than f 8. I thought the article was very well balanced. A close reading would cause no panic at all. At least, that was my reaction. So, I do look forward to having a chance to read more although I do not like to get too involved in formulas and really intense mathematical analysis. I am a pretty good reader but, I must say, I like taking and viewing pictures the best.

Hi Larry,
Diffraction is for lab-rats. Images displayed online only contain about 4% of the original amount of information -- so any diffraction has long since been sampled out. If you're printing something 6 feet wide - shot at > F11 - and you're examining it with a magnifying glass ... THEN diffraction might be an issue. Other than that, just don't worry about it. Generally, not shooting at a small enough aperture will do far more damage to an image.

Thanks for the comments about CiC. I hope you do enjoy being part of it.
The ethos behind both the tutorials and the forum is about supporting people to learn. Plenty people on here are very willing to share knowledge and experience. So, please don't be slow in asking questions and of course, posting up images for discussion and comment.
