Hello everybody,

My name is Alex, I'm from Romania and I'm 19 years old. I'm passionate about photography for about 4 years now and I've been shooting more seriously for 2 years, since I got my first DSLR. I'm looking forward to learning new stuff from the forums, and know other passionate people . I love the website and from what I've seen so far the forums are just as brilliant. Oh, and my gear consists mainly from a Nikon D90 and 3 lenses: 18-70,55-200 and 50 1.8 AF-D.

This is my first post.

My interest is general family stuff - weddings, birthdays, xmas etc
and travel photography.

I have a Nikon D200 with a 28 - 105 lens and an SB-800 flash.

Am currently thinking of getting a canon 5D with the 24 - 105 kit lens and also
a 100 - 400 zoom and a canon 580 flash.
The thought behind the new camera set up is for bird photography.
One disappointment with the 5D is that it doesn't have its own on board flash. These are
good for fill flash.

Any comments welcome.

LOCATION - Put yourself on our members map on Google. But please check the security aspects when you do this CiC Google map

CONDUCT - The general emphasis here is on support and learning. To do that, we often give detailed criticism on shots, where people have asked for it. We always try to do that in a fair, polite, and balanced manner. We also have a lot of fun on here, making humorous comments with one another. But again, it's nearly always done in a friendly manner, softened with the use of smilies.

If you follow the above guidelines you won't go far wrong. We rarely have a problem with things that are said on-line. However, the Admin/Mod group monitor all activity on this site, and any inappropriate comment will be removed or edited. We urge all new members to read the Code of Conduct FAQ.

NAMES - It's more friendly if you put your first name in your profile so that it appears on your posts. Select 'forum action/edit profile' from the menu at the top of the page. 'Real name' is at the bottom of the page. We suggest that for security reasons you only use your first name.

Hello,everybody! I am Ramachandran from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It is a small city very near the tip of the Indian subcontinent.(Less than 100 kilometers - about 60 miles.) I have been taking photographs using film cameras for a couple of years as a necessary supplement to my job in government. Nothing "creative" if that is the word you are thinking of. After retirement, I was engaged for the last two years with my passion for early history of astronomy and mathematics in this tiny part of the world. Recently I bought a Nikon D5100 with the kit lens 18-55 VR. Learning the digital format is taking a bit of a time. But sure I will graduate soon. The tutorials here are really helpful.I chanced upon this site while searching for help. And I am sure I got it.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hi! I'm so glad to join this community! As an avid gardener, I started taking pictures of flowers in my garden to keep a journal. Last year, I finally upgraded from a point and shoot camera to a DSLR (Canon T2i). Lately, I have become interested in learning good photo techniques. My name is Rafael and I am very excited about joining CIC.

I own a canon 5d mark II and can use some recommendations on which lens to start with.
I already have the 24-105 and are considering a 70-200 model.

Hello everyone,

I'm the very beginner. I've always had a great passion for photography, especially for photo stories, but never thought of taking pics myself, this was due to the lack of courage I think.

But lately, I started to read CiC tutorials, which encouraged me at least to try to photograph for my own pleasure and on my recent trip took some photos with Canon G9 and later, when it crashed, with my HTC

Hi, my name is Enrico and I live in Genoa, Italy.
I joined you because I am a beginner and I found your web-site extremely useful: the "tutorial" page is bookmarked on my PC because I think is the best tutorial section I've seen on the web so far and I hope I'll learn a lot.
As for my photo tastes, I've not yet a favourite category (apart from portraits of my family).
After many years of lazy holidays' photo with a compact camera, I asked for a DLSR for my 50th birthday two months ago. Since then, I am becoming more and more fond of photography (especially from the technical point of view) and I think by now I'm knowing quite a lot about not-too-expensive equipment.
So, hope to participate in this web-site (for the moment I'm too shy to post photos, but who knows...).

my name is Tony and I joined this community yesterday.

While I have have always enjoyed taking "holiday snaps" I only got my first decent camera (Panasonic FZ38) at the begining of last year, prior to going on our first safari.

I then decided to take up photography as a hobby and joined the local camera club.

I still count myself very much as a novice with a lot to learn, and I am sure that CiC will be very usefull, not only in using the tutorials, but in corresponding with like minded people.

I am now considering buying a DSLR but havent yet researched the market to see what would be most suitable.
