Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello,
I am Rohit, from New Delhi, India. Although I joined the forum months back, I never posted, but now is the time to do so.
I am a beginner in photography, and acquired my first DSLR recently (after using a Point and Shoot for years), but without any additional equipment due to the lack of funds. Hopefully, through this forum, I will be able to make the most of my skills through the limited equipment I have.

And I am very glad you have done so. Welcome Rohit. I hope you enjoy being a member of CiC.

Additional equipment is nice for those who can afford it. But it is not necessary in order to become a highly competent photographer and to make high quality images. That is all dependent on the skill and enthusiasm of the person behind the camera. And I hope being part of this forum will help you develop the knowledge and skills that you wish to develop

Just one other point - So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

    Hi All,

New to this forum, I have "lurked" for a while and decided to jump in.
Old school B&W film shooter, learning how to make that happen with digital.
    Both color and B&W.

Randy - Very glad that you've made the jump. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum. There are a number of us on here who try and make decent B & W images. What software are you/do you intend using for B & W conversions?

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello

I just got my first DSLR camera about 2 weeks ago, and have been trying to teach myself by visiting the various web sites dedicated to the art. I especially like this one as the tutorials are very easy to understand.

I hope the photos I upload are not too "off the pace" of the rest of the users.

    Regards

Images that you post will most certainly not be off-the-pace. CiC is all about learning and helping people to learn. The wonderful thing about this forum is that you can post images and ask fro constructive comment and criticism without the fear of having your work ridiculed , as does happen in some other places. It's all to do with the attitudes and values that govern how this site works.

So you are very, very welcome. Was it a new DSLR you bought? If so, you'll have got the User Manual. Read it: Digest it: Read it again. You want to get into the position where every button and dial and every programme option becomes embedded and is second-nature to you. Once you know your camera inside-out, you can stop worrying about how to work it when you're on a shoot and give 100% of your concentration to composing and capturing the image in front of you. It takes a while, but once you get there you really have made a huge leap along the learning curve

And, finally for now, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

    Welcome to CiC.

There a number of explanations for what, I think, you are describing. And for each one, members on here will be able to share their experience and advise. It may be connected to how you capture your image; i.e. how you take the photograph. Or it might have more to do with the processing of the picture once you have uploaded it onto your computer.

If you are quite new to the idea of post-processing and still inexperienced, then a good place to start to understand what is is, is this tutorial

    Hello Everyone!
I'm new and wanted to introduce myself. First, the basics: USA, female, 60+, amateu enthusiastic enthuseist - here to learn from others.

I love visual expression - especially capturing irony. A picture allows to to stare, take in, breath in and so contemplate a split second of time rather than rush. ( And we are all in such a hurry) If the captured split second reveals something of nature's beauty, then I cam appreciate something of the Creator. If the photojournalist image includes people, what does it say about the person and their beliefs. Lastly, with such a sentimental eye, as a photographer I can remind people of what is precious to themselves. Oh, how easily we forget. The best gifts are those that preserve a memory of something special. One Christmas I gave my mother a picture of the dog she loved and lost tragically. I couldn't have anticipated her reaction. "It meant allot," is an understatement. It hooked me forever.

For now, it is nice to have the opportunity to converse with others who also appreciate the art and science. Nice to be a part.
shazam ( which doubles as my AKA and my typical response to a great picture)

Hi this is Jeff in Pennsylvania. I have been an amateur for over 45 years, with film and recently with digital. I enjoy using my Canon DSLR's, and also my 4x5 Cambo. I still run a darkroom for the large format. I also enjoy digital darkroom currently using Aperture and Photoshop elements. I consider myself a duffer, so I am looking forward to learning much. Thanks in advance for the help.
I have a website at http://revjvbauer.com, although I haven't really decided what I want to do with it. I currently just list my equipment. Jeff.

Jeff - A very warm welcome to the CiC community.

I like the structure of your website. You say you 'just' list your equipment. It's an awful lot more than that. It's an entertaining and highly informative log of what you use.

I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and that your photographic learning and development does benefit through being involved.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Good Morning from Massachusetts. I haven't had the courage to post any work, but I thought it was time to get over this shyness. I have been in photography for a short time, but I think (hope) my enthusiasm comes through my photographs. I also look forward to construct criticism from the forum in order to better myself. Thanks.

    And THAT is what matters.

Welcome, Pat. You may feel that your knowledge and skills are not yet as well developed as you want them to be. But that can be learned. What can't be learnt is passion and enthusiasm. That comes from way inside. If they are there, than that's the platform on which to build the knowledge and skills.

And that's where CiC can hopefully come into the picture - as a source of advice and guidance, discussion and comment.

Posting up the first image is always the hardest. You do it when you feel ready. But, it's great to have you here.

By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Well, Viky, the best way of finding out answers is to ask the questions. And that's what CiC is about - helping people to learn.

Welcome to the forum. I hope it helps you gain the knowledge that you seek.

Hi my name is Reynold from Canada. Just turned 50 and have a had a passion for photography since my teens. The last few years I have attempted to step up my game... with better gear and knowledge. This is an excellent resource sight and community of artist on a journey to express ourselves and belong... I love this digital era and have fully embraced it. I use a 5D MKII, with several lens and accessories. I have yet to post any of work but have had fun critiquing images on the sight. I teach photography at a small photography club in Gimsby, Ontario and will be the first to admit I don't know it all and that I plan on continuing to improve my skill and knowledge. Thanks for putting the effort into creating this online community - It's excellent and friendly.
