Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (archive)

Hello from the steel capital of Canada. I came upon this site while researching online information about DSLR's and find it to be a terrific resource for this newbie.

As an amateur photographer who's enjoyed the hobby for so many years I doubt very much I'll be progressing into the realm of professional photography (although being paid for doing something so enjoyable DOES sound enticing...) probably because there's just so much to learn!

I currently own two digital cameras (three if you count my constant-companion HP M637 P&S) - A Nikon Coolpix 950 (my introduction to digital photography) and a recently-purchased D80 w/28-80mm lens as my first DSLR.

I'm looking forward to visiting the forums here on a regular basis and both learning and contributing.

I certainly hope so. Like you say, there's a lot to learn and hopefully being part of this forum can help with that.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

First off, welcome. You can certainly learn a lot here. There are many talented residents. Don't be afraid to ask questions, there is no bashing here. Photography is a constantly evolving and learning process where a mix of knowledge and experimenting come together to make this a great hobby. I look forward to seeing your work.

Paul here! Originally from Montreal but now in Toronto. Started young with photography as a hobby (using my sisters "discarded" instamatics, 110 and 126 formats). Received my first camera which was a German Praktica 35mm I think, around 10 or 12 years old. Started to learn darkroom work shortly after that. Enrolled in a commercial photography college eventually, assisted photographers then shared a studio with a friend. Work dried up, I returned to school for 3D animation and I have been working as a CG lighter for children's television shows ever since. I've worked with all formats from 8"X10" to 120mm and have now retired my Leica to learn digital. I am relearning the technical side of photography now that DSLR cameras have changed some of the "rules". I am enjoying it so far. This looks like a great forum and site for learning and sharing and I'm looking forward to interacting with all of you.

I think you'll find it's all pretty informal on here, with no-one getting too caught up with procedural niceties.

Hello! My name is Victor. I new to the world of photography which means I know nothing. Always has been an interest, however never acted upon it until now. Victor - That's as good a place to start as any. And the good thing about this forum is that the people who will be willing to offer support and advice and who will answer your questions, remember that they were once at exactly the same point on the learning curve as you now are. There are some places you go go where people seem to forget that they once knew nothing.

Hello Everyone! My name is Ashley. I have been dabbing in photography for a little over a year. I have basic equipment. Nikon D3100, constant light umbrellas, cotton backdrops, I do some chroma-key work with a green screen etc.

My first camera was a Nikon P90, then a few months later I upgraded to the Nikon D3100.

I haven't found what I enjoy doing most. I started out working with models & newborns and from there got into high school senior sessions, family photography and have even done a few weddings.

I would love to attend some photography classes or seminars, but until I can save up the money I'm looking to soak up as much information as I can online.

Warm greetings from India. I am Manish and I got interested in photography very early on in life but could never pursue it not even as a hobby. Today, at the age of 42, when I am at the peak of my career in an export business which I started some 20 years ago, I have shut down the business to seek some answers from life........

This move to retire, has again drawn me to photography and traveling, the two passions I have always cherished. As far as photography is concerned, I would rate myself as a beginner or a novice in photography as I am not technically perfect in my shots. I take pictures from my heart, believing that a picture should evoke a smile, a tear, an awe in the viewer.

I loved the way the tutorials are planned on this site and the informal attitude of the members, eager to help others. I would love to be in your company and contribute and learn thru this medium.
