Welcome Charles!
Welcome Charles!
Hi, My name is Thomas, and from Niagara Falls area in Canada. Both my wife and I are now retired and have made the switch to a Digital Camera (Canon 60d) as amateurs and are amazed as well as stunned at what these babies can do as a point and shoot camera. Pictures are superb and mind blowing. Now to get into all the other features of this camera is going to be exciting as well as frustrating as we learn to control it. I have been on your site for a few months reading and learning from your tutorials and forums and they are a great and fantastic teaching system. Great site and we are looking forward to getting more deeply involved in Digital Photography with Cambridge In Colour as our guidance and mentor. Happy New Year to all. Tom
Hello! I am an avid Amateur Photographer who is looking forward to learning more about the different aspects of photography. I live in the deep south in beautiful Georgia, USA. I am a Real Estate Agent and a Pastor's wife. I bought an entry DSLR in late January, 2011 - a Nikon D3100. It is a great camera that is user friendly out of the box, and I am gradually learning to use and utilize the manual settings as well.
Hello and welcome.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Thank you for joining up on CiC. I hope you enjoy it and find that it does help you photographic development.
Hi my names John I live on the south coast of the UK opposite the Isle of Wight in a place called Lymington. I have just got back into this hobby after my 2 sons have grown up, use to use 35mm Pentax now gone digital with Pentax K5 how things have changed in 15 years since I last done any photos of any amount. This site has been a great help already and I bet it will help me even more in time.
Hello John and congratulations on being the first person to post a message into this thread in 2012.
Glad that you've found the site helpful so far. I hope you continue to do so.
You're one of a number of us who 're-discovered' photography after a long time away from it.
Hi, My name is Jim, I am originally from Massachusetts then moved to Florida at an early age. I started taking pictures around the age of 10. Later I bought a 35 mm Canon film camera and my interest for photography increased but as everyone knows the processing was rather expensive and limited me in my new found hobby. Now, I have a dslr and there are no limits to the amount of photos I can take ! I have a Nikon D7000, I think it's a great camera. I want to learn more techniques how to take great photos, I'm excited about getting started on this site!
Hi Jim,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me.
Always good to have another Nikon shooter
The best way to learn here is by posting images for critique, and here is the best way to do that; Guide to posting images for comment
I look forward to seeing some.
Which lens(es) do you have for your D7000?
All the best,
Welcome all! Lots of new faces in the past few days!

Rob - Congratulations on the new one and welcome to life on CiC. I'm glad that you think this could be a forum where you will be able to learn. That's certainly the primary purpose for its existence. You've maybe already seen that there are a lot of people on here very willing and able to share significant knowledge and experience. So, please do join in with questions, images for comment, etc.
Hello all!
My name is Paul, originally a true yankee from New York, transplanted to central Texas for over 30 years and now living in central Arkansas. This is truly a beautiful place. My life work has been as a design engineer building automated machinery and product design for computer, electronics, communication and general industrial applications. Along the way I have been able to work on a number of projects with complex optics, lasers and light production systems (LEDs). This has given me a good understanding of light science as well as the photographic process.
Light continues to fascinate me. Now semi-retired, I am able to spend a good deal of time learning more about photography and passing on what I can to others.
I'm very glad to hear that.
You should put up more of your posts into the 'Nature & Architecture' section or the 'People and Pets'. These are the two main sections of teh forum where people put images for comment and criticism. As well as that, of course, there are the series of competitions that also run and you could post copies of images into those.
