Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hola! Name's cassy! Found this site and can say THIS IS MY NEW OBSESSION!!! Been photographing in retail photography a little over 5 yrs (many say it's not real photography, but I must disagree, sorry!), and am now starting to learn the fun of doing it on my own! Can't wait to share what I can bring to the table, and learn from what so far seems to be an awesome community!! :)

Cassy - Glad that you like what you've seen on CiC so far.
Not sure what you mean by retail photography - maybe the terminology is different on this side of the Atlantic.
Anyway, I hope you continue enjoying being part of this community and that you bring your experience to the tabvle in order to help others, as well, I hope, as you learning.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi All,
My name is Dave from South Dakota USA. I discovered this website while searching for tutorials on using my new Nikon D90.
I have lots to learn and have found this site to be a great way to search for answers. I would like to start taking portraiture photo's, and learning all that goes with it is quite the challenge. Start up equipment and shooting techniques are my immediate concerns. I hope to learn a lot in a short time...if you feel like you can help me out in any way, please let me know. Thanks!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Thanks for the welcome! What I meant by "Retail" is being a chain (or franchise) of photography! I have worked for studios such as Picture People, JcPenney and Target. We get certain limitations, don't get to play with camera settings or too many different lighting options :( because of this (and our 10 minute appointment scheduling) many ppl dont consider us photographers!
Making this jump is definitely exciting!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi: I just joined this group. looks like it'll be fun... I currently own a Canon S5 is P&S camera, but am researching into DSLR. Looking at either a Canon T3i or Nikon D5100. I know they're both considered excellent starter cameras, with both having pros and cons. Leaning more towards the T3i with better video capability, even though video is not my main interest. Any thoughts?
Tom

Hello everybody! My name is Don and I am from Texas, USA. I have been a point-and-shooter for a number of years, and recently got a Canon Rebel T2i. I've been having a great time with that camera and am taking part in an online photography course. I look forward to learning more about DSLRs and photography, and have been really "wow'd" by the expertise in these forums.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
My name is Eric and I live in Jonesborough TN USA, which is in the NE corner of the state not far from NV, KY, & VA. Lots of forested mountain trails and streams, truly the most beautiful part of this state. I love to hike and my dog Apple is usually just ahead of me on the end of a leash. As a result I do a lot of nature & landscape photography with some panoramas and IR thrown in for good measure. I enjoy urban photography too but don't get to the Big City much. I own a few fairly sophisticated P&S's as ILC's and DSLR's are too big/heavy/expensive for me and I don't want the time/trouble/expense of multiple lenses/bodies. Looking forward to many posts and replies here.
Eric

Dave - Hopefully you'll find lots of people very willing to share knowledge and experience. The speed at which you can take it all in depends, of course, on your thirst for learning. But when you start realising how exciting it can all be, that thirst starts to materialise

Tom - I hope so. You should post up your question about the cameras in the Digital Cameras & Equipment section of the forum. More people who can give you the answer will probably see it in there.

Thanks Don. The nice thing about CiC is the willingness to share that knowledge and experience. This is not a place where folk try show off and put others down because they don't know as much to. It's all about helping people learn.

Your advice and guidance will be in huge demand on here.
Frequently there are people come on with posts along the lines of 'My friends have asked to do their wedding, what do you think .........etc., etc?' In fact the latest of them was started earlier today, here. I'm sure your thoughts will be welcomed.

Hello Cambridgeincolour !
My name is Mikael, 30 yo. I'm living in France, close to Switzerland where I was born. I'm new in digital photography, I use Canon equipment (550d DSLR + 70-300L IS USM + 15-85 IS USM) for one year and I'm happy with it.
I like to shot landscapes, wildlife, sometimes portraits and I like to discover new techniques (HDR, focus stacking, astrophotography - i'm also interested in astronomy ! - and in the near future macro).
Your website is absolutely great for learning, and tutorials are perfect for beginners like me.
Longue vie à Cambridgeincolour !!!

Hi everyone,
My name is Nate and I am 22 years old. I am from Philadelphia USA, but I am currently studying engineering in Montreal Canada. I have always be interested in photography but up until a few weeks ago, I never owned my own camera. When I came across CiC, I was amazed by the gallery because I love low light photography, and once I started reading the forums I knew this was going to be a wonderful place to learn. I only wish my textbooks were as concise and helpful as the tutorials. I am really excited to get started, learn from the compendium of knowledge available here, and be inspired by the work of others. Hopefully I will eventually be able to help and inspire others as well.
Nate

Hi Nate,
You do say the nicest things :)
I'd feel really old if I told you when I passed through Phili, and I was about your age then :)
It was a hot summer and 104 the day we drove through.
There's a hint in your post that you do now own a camera, so what did you get?
And which branch of engineering are you studying?
