Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Greetings fellow forum mates!
I first landed at a tutorial posted by CiC while searching for bits of info. I am newish to actually taking pictures, although I have had a camera for years. As a result of my inactivity, it became necessary to refresh my memory about some photographic concepts. The tutorials were very helpful, so of course I had to visit the website to view the photos. I was astounded by the beauty of the images posted in the CiC gallery as well as inspired to pick up the camera again. A recent visit by a friend who is an architectual photographer also encouraged me after he looked at some shots I took last year during a trip to Asheville, NC. He proclaimed I have a great "eye" and should continue learning. Thanks Brad!
Gotta go now, I have posts to peruse...
Cheers,
Pam

Hello Pam. I'm very glad you bumped into CiC on your travels and that it's been interesting enough to make you want to sign-up.
I hope you find that being part of the forum is as helpful as the tutorials. Certainly that is the hope, as many members on here with vast amounts of knowledge, experience and skill are only too willing to share that in order to help other people learn.
So, I hope you'll be here for a long time and that, soon, we'll see some of your pictures being posted up.

Hello there and welcome.
One of the most important things to remember about CiC is that there can be no such thing as a daft question. The only daft question is the one that you want to ask, but don't.
Can I ask that, because for a lot of our members, English is not their first language, that you try and use proper English when your posting. For example, startign your sentences with capitals. That helps other people understand what you are writing.
And ...........you've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello Brian and welcome to CiC.
Glad you've found the site and, hopefully you like what you see. I think you'll find that the forum is pretty informal. Nobody stands on ceremony and there are so many people committed to learning and to helping others learn that it's quite an exciting place to be .... I think.
Hope you enjoy it.

Hi I'm Lee Summersby from Topsham, Devon UK. I've been "in & out" of photography for about 20 years ( now i'm back for good !!). I class myself as a nature photographer (espec Dragons & Damsels). Unfortunately I dont consider myself consistent in quality ( a very frustrating place to be ). Hoping to gain more knowledge and this site looks ideal. I have a Nikon D80, Nikkor18-70 and a couple of Sigma's (70-300 & 150-500).

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all,
I'm Ron from Galloway, Ohio USA. I recently acquired a Nikon P7100 "bridge" camera that is more robust than a point & shoot yet does not have interchangeable lenses and other features of a full DSLR. I was lead to this site by my inquiry into the phenomenon of lens distortion. I wish to know more about it as well as a further question having to do with human perception and interpolation versus mechanical imagery via camera lenses.
Back to lens distortion, I was quite shocked and disappointed after a recent vacation trip to see lens distortion in many of my photos using the 16:9 aspect ratio (wide screen) setting in my camera. Fortunately, I used Photoshop to remove this distortion. Upon further research after experiencing this problem, I learned that it is common using this aspect ratio regardless of the camera used. Some cameras have lens distortion correction as a feature in the camera settings. My camera has this feature, but not in the mode that I was shooting while on vacation. I have decided to use RAW images with distortion correction always "On".
I am delighted to have joined CiC. I'm looking forward to learning more about photography and particular problems that will certainly arise along my learning curve.
Sincerely,
Ron

Ron - Delighted that you have joined.
You should repeat that discussion on lens distortion in a new thread posted into the Digital Cameras & Equipment section of the forum. Not all members come into this welcome thread and there are those who would be very interested in what you've said. Just go into 'Digital Cameras & Equipment and click on 'Start New Thread' at the top of the page.
I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and that you'll be a participating member well into the future.
By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Hi all, I am new to the forum and live in Ontario Canada. I have been interested in Photography since retiring in 2005. I bought my first DSLR in 2006 and have loved every minute of using a camera. I am always trying to learn more about my hobby by photography podcasts, video tutorials and hope to continue learning and helping where I can by joining this forum. Thank you for having me. Bill.

Thank you for joining, Bill. Great to have you aboard.
I think your comment about 'loving every minute of it' is what it's got to be about for us hobbyists. Even the frustrating moments when we think that something new is never going to be learned, is a wonderfully exciting time when you realise you are on the cusp of knowledge that you didn't previously possess.
So, I hope you'll be around the forum for a long time and that we see you involved in discussions, debates etc etc.

Hi guys and gals... I'm Rogerio and have just joined the forum... I live in NYC, which has been an endless source of inspiration, especially when it comes to architectural photography, something that I'm enjoying to explore more and more (I'm kinda all over the places as I love Nature, Street Photography and I've been flirting with Macro as well). I'm an amateur photographer who likes to think that has a (fairly..lol) good eye for photos. Happy to find a forum that I can be part of and hopefully broaden up my circle of friends (virtually and/or personally) as well as share my pictures with you, and certainly value your opinions in order to better myself in photography, that more than a hobby, is a passion of mine.

Gordon Buck here in south Louisiana, USA. I use a variety of equipment, primarily digital these days, on a wide variety of subjects. In other words, completely random! I do attempt to organize my thoughts and learning experiences in my blog, http://lightdescription.blogspot.com/ . Lately I've been reviewing my Canon PowerShot G efforts and anticipate getting the new G1X as soon as it is available.
I must have skipped over the "signature" process when setting up my profile. Where is it?
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
ive just got a nikon d3100 and would love to get to use the camera.

I think there is something whereby you can't put in a signature until you've made 10 posts. After that you get an 'Edit Signature' option in the Edit Profile page.
Anyway - welcome. Thanks for joining up. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC. You've certainly been busy on that blog.

Practice, practice, practice. That's what it's all about. And people on here will be very happy to support you with advice and guidance. But the first and most important thing is getting to know your camera so that all the controls become second nature to you. Have fun.
