Wonderful to have you here. I hope you enjoy being part of this forum. You've maybe already seen that CiC is very much about learning and, in particular, those with more knowledge and experience being willing to share that with others. I certainly hope you'll feel able to share your obvious experience as well, of course, as hopefully picking up a few bits and pieces as you go along.

Hi! My name is Norma. I've been into photography for a long time and have been the one chronicling our family functions over the years. Now I've decided that I want to do more than point and shoot. I've joined the area photo club and am learning how my camera works (Nikon D90). I'm a sponge right now, I want to learn, learn, learn! I'm excited to have found this site and see what other people who love photography as much as I do have to say about it.

Hi everyone, my name is Peter and I'm from Burnley, Lancashire, England. I've been interested in photography from being a child which is many moons ago. I am a member of my local camera club, in which I enjoy entering the competitions, I also enjoy playing about in Photoshop though I'm not very good at it yet, I can do the basics and have started using layers, I've a lot to learn yet :). I will upload some photos when I get to grips with the site and I will look forward to some critique from you.
I'll go and have a quick look at some of your photos now and see what the competition is :).
Pete.

Hi Pete and welcome if you need any help just email me.

My name is jessie. I enjoy taking pictures and recently worked for a band taking pics for the website. I find it hard to find insperation in my area. I enjoyed on another site the projects and contest they would have. I am fine with critiques but the people on that site were really harsh. More mean then helpful. Are there projects and contests on this site? I really want to learn.

Hello my "handle" is Big Wrench. I'm an advanced amateur photographer, still learning with lots of room for more photo composition knowledge. I've been working on ranking cameras based on all features. I was preparing to purchase a Sony SLT A65, then I learned today, 2-1-12 that this camera is being held back from production by Sony. New release and shipping date to be sometime in November, 2012. I just reviewed the Panasonic LX-5 on Cnet.com. It appears to be a good camera. Most likely adequate to take good quality photos. I'm coming to the conclusion that a good camera plus good use of Photoshop Elements 9 (which I own and learning to use) should produce some quality photos. I would like to receive feedback on your opinion about choosing a quality camera.

Hi everybody, my name is Valera, I am a Russian-Israeli, currently residing in China. Pretty new to Digital photography, might even say very new, as I don't think point and shoot counts as any photography experience. I've got a Canon Rebel XT and now finally I have forgotten about all modes other than Manual. Hopefully with the help of this site and its members I will be able to grow in this hobby of mine.

Hi everybody
I am from Brunei and have been shooting for over a year and feeling stuck in my genre till I came across this site. I am hoping to learn and contribute by participating in this forum.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Good day, It says "briefly"!
I read my 1st CiC tutorial about 12 days ago; followed quickly by all the others;& again; & again - it began to make sense. I couldn't see clearly how to thank the site, so joined. Thank you, very much.
My 1st [real]camera was shared with my father, it was a 35mm Werra mat and we used Ilford B&W film that we loaded ourselves from a huge roll. A length was measured along the edge of the dining table and cut off, loaded into the cassette. Processing, enlarging and printing was in the kitchen after washing the dishes.
I now take images of military a/c [FuzzyFastjetFotos] using Pentax & Sigma gear. Photoshop Elements 10 is a challenge and will be mastered in due course. Photobucket hosts some cropped images - I would have posted an example but they are not the correct size for here. I started 2 1/2 yrs ago and have just stopped shooting jpeg in favour of raw and my next time out will be raw+[both raw and jpeg].
It is time for me to offer my experience to anyone who might benefit, I have gained a lot and hope to return the favour. If that sounds arrogant, it is not meant to be. An example; I've ploughed my way through many threads, trying to glean knowledge; a recent one about 'HDR'. It contained acronyms, 'OP' & 'S***', [oops, grey cells lost connection again]. I could not find a photographic significance. So I re-read the thread - Original Posting and Such a pain, or something.
We can all learn!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone,
I started taking photography seriously about eighteen months ago. I have recently been taking headshots of actors and also photographing actors in rehearsal. I have done a little macro photography and am keen to learn more. I live in a flat in Brighton UK which doubles as a basic studio. Areas that I hope to master in the next year are basic Photoshop techniques and studio lighting.

Norma - I'm glad you've found CiC. The emphasis is certainly on learning (with some fun thrown in). I think most folk find the tutorials amongst the best on the web. Add in the helpful culture that is what this forum is about and, hopefully, we have the right mix. And the best way to tap into all the knowledge and experience on here is to ask questions.
I hope you enjoy it.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello Kate [and Donald],
I hope this helps. My Pentax book was written by a Japanese and or
German using English. The language was 'digital camera-ese' and highly technical. Frankly, I hadn't a clue! so, I fiddled with the camera menus which helped and used pencil and pad to jot down words that were meaningless. Gradually individual sections started to link in with others.
The best part was to go out and point at things, go home in the warm and look at the results, looking in the book to establish the link from camera to the notes.
At least after doing that you will know which other books/ tutorials[CiC is the place!!!] to read
We all follow the same path, I,m just a little behind [most others]. :)

Jessie
The one thing we can be pretty confident about on here is that the critiques you get will be constructive and aimed at being helpful. Only very rarely have we had anyone who tried to put up the sort of harsh comments your refer to - that was quickly stopped. CiC is about learning and people on here know that foklk have to start at the beginning.
Have a look around the forum and you will find that we have some competition thtreads. But these are as much for fun as being serious competitions. If you want people to discuss your work and offer ideas and sugegstions, then the areas you want to post into are 'Nature & Architecture' and/or ' People and Pets'.
I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.

Hello
It would be rally nice if you felt able to go into 'Edit Profile' and log your real name so that it showed up alongside your posts. You'll see that most of us use our real name on here.
On the specific question you pose, I'd suggest putting that into the 'Digital Cameras and Equipment' section of gteh forum. More peopel are likely to see it in there.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
You are not alone in the learning. I just joined too. The tutorials are very very helpful.
Do you know the road from Seward?? [Kenia Peninsular] to the fork at Tern Lake? I had been around there in April '80 and spotted a moose, stopped, climbed up the camper to take a photo. I hadn't seen anyone for 3 days. Yup! Along came a State Trooper leading six cars and he gave me a long lecture. So please look for that old moose and post a picture or two. I never took one!

Pete - A very warm welcome. Thanks for signing up.
I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and that as well as hopefully learning some new things, your own knowledge and experience will be shared with others in order to help their learning. The culture on here is very much about sharing and supporting.

I'm very glad to hear that you are concentrating on mastering manual settings on your new XT. Having that understanding will, I believe, greatly support your learning. and your abilities.
And I certainly hope that CiC can be a resource that helps with that development.

Thank you very much (by the way, you can go to Edit Profile and insert your real name so that it appears alongside all your posts).
I'm glad that you've found that the CiC tutorials can help clear some of the mist that surrounds areas of photography. The thing to remember is that everyone else on here has also been on the same learning curve that you're now on. Because of that, people on here are always very willing to try and help by answering questions or giving explanations.
And it is not at all arrogant to suggest that you can help others. Of course you can and I hope you feel you will be able to do so.
