Hi Ron,
I think you'll be better off posting the question in the Digital Cameras & Equipment forum for wider coverage and more answers than here in the welcome thread. I'll copy your post across there.
I don't shoot with filters, so I won't try to answer

I just got a Canon T2i and I am starting my photography hobby once again. I have never taken a photography class, everything I know I learned by trial and error or by sites like this one.
I tried film photography a few years ago but the cost of learning on film turned me off to it. After be unsatisfied with a new digital camera I bought (sx230hs) I returned it and got my first Dslr. I am a big fan of diy photography, and prefer to do things with a budget in mind.
A passionate amateur photographer, my interests are Abstract, Still Life, Landscapes and Portraits. I have several publications in various magazines and exhibitions to my credit. In September 2010, I had my solo show " Abstracts and Still Life: A riot of Geometry and Color" with great success. The essence of my photographic style is depiction of fine texture and eliciting an emotional response in the viewer through seeing and presenting exquisite form in everyday objects. I live and work as a Cardiologist in India. My portfolio can be viewed at www.photo.net/photos/acm
Welcome to all the "newbies"!
Hello
My name is Josh. I live in Fort Smith Arkansas. Lived in Arkansas my whole life. I would like to live somewhere colder but home is where the family is.
I've been taking pictures for 15+ years but just got serious about a year ago. Bought a refurbished 50D from Canon with the goal of actually learning how to use it. I've used it almost exclusively in manual mode and this as helped immensely. Aside from family photos my main interest is nature photography.
I hope that this forum will be a place for me to learn and receive criticism. The tutorials have already been helpful.
Hello everyone! I'm new to the thread and just getting started into photography after a 30 year dormant period. To say it's been awhile, I still have my Canon AE1 program camera from 1982. When I say just getting started, I don't have a camera yet. The one I have my sights on is a Nikon D7000 which for one is back ordered for now and I saving for it. I stumbled on to the gallery photos onto on the web. They were so vivid and captivating, I decided to view this site and join. They are the type of photography I' really into. Vivid night photography. I am curious if all of the shots are as is, or were they edited a little? I like to see other photographers shots with data on each shot. Any info on the gallery photos would be appreciated. I am from accross the pond, so if I post and you notice my spelling might be a little different, you will understand why.
G'day and welcome to CiC. Trial and error is a great way to learn, especially in the digital age where mistakes aren't so costly. I hope participating here will help you increase your knowledge even further.
We like to go on a first name basis here so it would be helpful if you added your real name to your profile.
Hi Josh and thanks for joining CiC. Sounds like you've got a lot of experience behind you - all of it serious I'm sure! You're in the right place if you're looking for C&C - the members here are always willing to provide some of their insights in a views but in a helpful manner so that you feel comfortable learning. I look forward to seeing some of your photos.
Hello Albert and welcome to CiC where you'll find we're pretty much from all over the world, including the US. Interestingly, my wife still has her Canon AE1 sitting at home, while I am the proud owner of a D7000 (she has the D5100). Most of the members in CIC are strong advocates of the digital darkroom, or post processing as we more commonly call it here. You'll also find that most of the data for the photos is stored within and can be viewed using web browser plug ins or freely available online Exif viewers. Of course, if you're interested in a particular photo just ask and I'm sure exactly how the photo was taken and what post processing was done will be freely shared.
Glad to have you on board.
Wonderful. Keep doing it. you get used to looking like a ............ after a while. I did! Maybe I always looked like a .........!
Where are you Nick. I'm assuming it's the UK (that's my problem for growing up on a Scottish farm). If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Anyway, great to have you here. I hope you've seen enough so far to realise that CiC is very much about supporting people to learn and to encourage folks to ask questions.
Thank you for the welcome Donald
Berkshire cow I'm afraid - not a highlander!

Hi my name is Al I'm from Greensboro, North Carolina USA where I have lived over 30 years. I was born in Massachusetts. I have done photography on and off for many years and used a Pentax K1000 for many of those years, but only recently got into digital photography when my daughter took my film camera to college and did not return it because she loved it so much. So I have been taking digital for 2 years now. I am currently enrolled in a correspondence class for photography and enrolled in a introduction to Photoshop class. I love learning, I have a lot to learn and hope to be able to utilize this site to become more proficient in my photography thru interaction with more advanced photographers. Thanks!
Hello Folks: My name is Jack and I am from New Hampshire, US, but retired to Costa Rica in Central America. I have taken up writing articles and taking photos of folk culture events. I began taking pictures with Kodak box cameras, had a nice Nikon film camera, began using digital with a 4 MP Kodak and am now very pleased with my Panasonic Lumix ZS5. It has great zoom, great special settings, it's light and very inconspicuous (quite important for what I do). I am working hard to become a better photographer.
