Great to have you here and I certainly hope you find CiC is a resource that can help you to learn.
There are lots of macro shooters on here who will be more than happy to help with suggestions and advice.
I look forward to seeing some of the stuff that comes out of that lens you have.

Hello Ron and welcome to CiC.
I do think no matter whether it be film or digital, the basic artistic skill of seeing and capturing the photograph lies in the person using the equipment as opposed to the equipment itself. And it is great to have someone with your knowledge and experience on board.
I hope that as well you learning by being part of CiC, you will also share your experience with others to help them learn.
And .......you've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi
I am Kamran and very happy to join this wonderful community. I love photography and I am not a professional one. Have learnt few tips and techniques through differnt books and avaible online materials. This is wonderful wonderful site . I have being doing this since last 7 to 8 years but finds very less time to really go in to much details but I am really thirsty to get a good hold on photography . After so many years I have able to grab 1 thing...Photography is more of an art of how we look to an object. Start thinking as a camera and this is a new world altogether.. cheers
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I'm Martin from Fethiye, Turkey. I've been interested in photography for years but never seemed to have the time to improve technique and understand what I was doing. I was always very much a basic mode photographer. Depth of Field to me was the size of a football pitch.
My wife and I decided to pack up work and moved here from England last year, and I now I have the time to study online tutorials, admire other peoples work and go out and experiment. It also helps I now live in a naturally stunning place.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello, Everyone. Although I don't consider myself a beginner in photography, I am fairly new to digital photragraphy. My main camera is a Nikon D5000, which I bought in 2010. I have been using mostly the full-automatic mode, and wish to use more of its advanced features.
I have begun re-reading the user's manual and checking out help websites. My photographic interests include travel, family, landscape, architectural, and still-life.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
I'm Anthony Bainbridge, living in the Wylye valley in Wiltshire, England. I've been using digital photography since I bought my first digital, a Fuji S5500, in about 2004. For the last couple of years I have been using a Nikon D90, whose capabilities I am still exploring. But as I am an entomologist with a passion for flies (the Diptera) I have just acquired a Sigma macro lens (105mm F2.8) with which I shall be trying to enter the world of 1:1 macro photography. Some of my early results are 'promising' but I have a long way to go. Any hints or advice which more experienced hands would care to offer will be gratefully received. From time to time I'll post the results I am least dissatisfied with.

Martin - You fortunate person. I am envious. Like everything, the technical bits just require learning and that needs to be taken step-by-step. I hope CiC can help

Anthony - I hope you will post up some of your images. There are a number of 'specialist' macro shooters active on CiC. So I am confident that there will be advice, guidance and suggestions aplenty.

Hello Sankesh - Street photography is a fascinating subject and, again, there are those on here who have built up some experience in practicing it. I hope you will let us see some of the pictures that you make.

The same pathway that many of us on here followed. I hope that the willingness of people on here to share knowledge and experience will prove useful and help you get to grips with the new-fangled way of doing things.

Welcome back, Nana Kofi. I am sure you will find that the site has developed a lot since you were last visiting. But, as always, the ethos of the site remains very much to the fore - That it is aimed at helping people develop knowledge and learn skills,
So I hope you will contribute towards helping other develop as well as being able to further your own development through joining discussions with other contributors.

Patrick - Thank you for joining.
One of the good things about being part of CiC is that people are nopt obsessed with havign the biggest, best and newest camera equipment. That is not what is important. What is important is your passion for learning how to make exciting and attractive pictures and for the art and science of photography. So you are very, very welcome. I hope that being part of CiC both increases your interest in the subject and helps you develop increasing knowledge and skills.
Thank you for telling us your name and where you are from. If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everybody, I'm Scott from South Africa.
I have been "playing" with photographic equipment for several years and "graduated" from film to digital several years ago. While I may still have some way to go before graduating to a level of competent photographer, I am continually attempting to improve my photographs.
My passion leans towards wildlife photography in general and bird photography in particular. I am willing to share my knowledge, experience and views on a wide range of subjects and look forward to adding to, and extracting from these forums so that we can all learn and grow as photographers, all while having fun
I am a Nikon user, currently exploiting a D7000 with various lenses and accessories too numerous to mention.

I, too, am a new member here. Why not, for the time being at least, simply take pictures of what you like. My albums are full of nothing special, but they were of some interest to me when I took them.
As to not always getting your settings correct, join the club. Is your camera the strictly manual kind?
