I would be the last one to not tout the better characteristics of a good camera and better yet, good pieces of glass, but both in the hands of a hack will still produce less than stellar photos. Those who wish to learn, who pay close attention to what's said on the boards, avail themselves of good tutorials (most of which can be found on youtube), will make use of said equipment and much sooner than "sometime," will start to make great shots.
You appear to be one in the latter category simply by your enthusiasm for photography. I think this forum is a great place to learn.

Hello Praveen and welcome.
First of all, you've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
I hope you enjoy being part of this forum and i hope it is a helpful resource in terms of your learning and development.

Hello Ali and thank you for deciding to join CiC.
The main sections of the forum fro posting images for comment and criticism are 'Nature & Architecture' and 'People and Pets'. I hope you will use these and invite others to make comments.
It will always be helpful if you give a bit of information - What you were trying to achieve; What your own analysis of the quality of the image is; What aspects of the image you would like people to comment upon; e.g. composition, exposure, lighting.
That helps people target their comments more closely to your learning and development needs.
I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
HI, my name is John and I live in Barrow in Furness in Cumbria.
I have been interested in photography for many years. Going digital has opened up a whole new world of possibilities to me. It gives the photographer full control of their images from capture to editing and printing. But that means there is a whole lot to learn! Which is where the CiC site comes in and I think it’s great; it’s well laid out, informative and friendly.
So I have decided to join in but having never used a forum before that’s even more new stuff.
Looking forward to lots more learning and hopefully producing some good photos too.
Regards, John.

Stoyan - Hello and welcome to CiC.
I hope you have seen that this is indeed a forum that tries to provide constructive help and support, including commenting on work when that is asked for. So, when you are ready to do so, please do post images as request comment.

Thanks for the comment John. It's a bit hackneyed to say it, but the forum truly is its members. They make it what it is and that air of constructive, sometimes challenging, but hopefully always friendly approach to supporting others in their learning and development is very much how we want the forum to remain.
So, welcome on board. I remember the feeling about starting to use a forum. But once you get a few posts under your belt, you're up and running. If you have any questions about how things work, just fire them up.

Hello to the forum!! New member located in Auckland, NZ, though originally from the UK (Wales). Recently, some may say finally!, switched from film to digital and coming to terms with the difference. Use Nikon gear for the greater part and don't specialise. Photography has been a lifelong interest and I am enjoying the foray into the world of digital.
The site seems an interesting one and I hope the forums are well frequented and lively!

I certainly hope you'll post into both, Helen. The competitions are aimed at being a bit good fun and then the main critique sections are, of course, there to help people get into more detailed discussion and learning about improving skills and abilities.

This, I hope, is as good an online place to be as any other for getting the help and support to start getting to grips with all those buttons and dials. And remember, having fun is the best basis for learning. So, keep enjoying it.

A couple of things to help you get started:
- So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. - Posts should use standard English sentences. Try to punctuate your sentences, using full stops and capital letters appropriately. Try to avoid excessive use of txt/sms language, smilies, all capital letters ("SHOUTING") or ???? and !!!!! characters. Bear in mind we have many members for whom English is not their first language, so please also check your spelling and avoid excessive use of local vernacular. You can edit your contributions at any time by clicking on the "Edit Post" button at the bottom of your post (with additional options being available if you then click the "advanced" button).

Hello There,
Since the day I received my first camera, I have been visiting CiC. It sat in the box until I felt like I could turn it on and start practicing my photography in M. Since then I have found a large love for photography. I can't wait to improve me skills each day and am grateful for this creators of this site, as they have giving me a large portion of my knowledge.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I’ve been interested in photography on and off since the early 80’s starting off with a second hand Praktica BC1before progressing onto a Canon EOS 600 based kit.
My interest dipped over the last 10 years until the daughter of a friend of mine had her pictures recently published in and on the front cover of Practical Photography.
I have now purchased my first digital camera, a Panasonic Lumix FZ45 if you’re interested, and I am now on a steep digital learning curve.

Now that, Samantha, is the clear winner of the UserName of the year award. And it's only April. I love it.
A very warm welcome and I hope CiC keeps on providing you with the knowledge you need. The real driver for learning is your passion for the art and craft of photography, and you seem to have that. With that passion you can achieve anything.
The one thing to remember is - If you can't find the answer in the tutorials, or someone else hasn't written about it in the forum, then please do ask. There is no such thing as a 'wrong' or 'dumb' question on CiC. The only stupid question is the one you'd wished you'd asked, but didn't like to.
By the way, you don't say where you are. If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
