Ian - Great to have you here. Welcome.
I hope CiC can play a role in keeping the renewed interest fired up and that your involvement here on the forum contributes to your learning and development. I think we're a reasonably friendly bunch. There not too much standing on ceremony and everyone tries to get on with the job of enjoying our photography.
If there are any questions about how the forum works, then please do just call out.

Hi,
My name is Chaim and I live in Michigan. I stumbled across this site when I was trying to find out how to take pictures with mist or fog that didn't turn out blurry. I poked around the site for the last couple of weeks and decided to join.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I'm Peter. In my 50's and been taking pictures since I worked all summer and puchased a just released Canon AE1. Loved it but happen to have been Nikon ever since! Went Digital with a D70.
I take all sorts of pictures (landscapes least) but mainly people and mainly candid. I love going to a function and snapping away with a 200mm so I am not noticed. (If it's possible to not be noticed with a great big ugly black lens sticking out of your face...)
Found your site whilst trying to pick up some advice about studio lighting and more formal 'portraits'. I fully understand all the technical stuff and could probably explain all the functions of my D90, but I often lack the 'eye' for seeing a picture in the first place!! Just have to keep practicing I guess......

I'm glad all that poking around has prompted you to sign-up. Hello and welcome.
I hope you find that being part of the forum is as useful as reading the tutorials. It does give you the opportunity to explore some of the issues, points in some more depth and have a dialogue with people about any particular question you have. Of course, it also allows you to post up images and invite comment and criticism.
I hope you enjoy it.
And, by the way, if you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello Peter and welcome aboard. We'll forgive you your sins!
I do hope that being part of the forum does help you extend your knowledge base and that not only will you learn, but that you will make your very obvious experience available to others through comments and advice that you can provide.

Hello, my name is Barry and I've been taking snaps for years but have only recently decided to take up photography as a proper hobby, my partner suggested that my relatives gave me vouchers as Christmas presents, clever girl, and I am now the proud owner of a Pentax k-r. I have been reading tutorials on this site and playing to get to learn about my camera, which is considerably more complex than I am. I am hoping to absorb as much information as I can from the other forum members and one day be in a position to help someone else!

Donald-thank you and yes, I have just discovered that and made the adjustments to my profile. Using a forum is as new to me as photography!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello everyone out there.
I'm Ingrid, live in Belgium and I'm an absolute newbie on a forum, in fact, this is the very first time I post anything on a forum. Also English is not my native language, so sorry if I make mistakes, or if my English sounds as if I learned it at school :o (=truth)
As I'm always looking for information on photography, I found this site already a few weeks ago, and I have already browsed various tutorials and read several forum topics as a guest. I suppose that my previous confession (about this being my very first post ever on a forum) reveals how I feel about this website? In case it doesn't: super !!
I started a 4 year photography course last year, and am now extending my knowledge (and my material) little by little, so thanks in advance for all the information that I can find here. :)
Ingrid

Messner - Welcome to CiC.
There are some people on here who are experienced at very long exposure photography who will, I know, be more than willing to offer advice, guidance and suggestions. I think (hope) you will find that this is a forum where people are very willing to help each other learn and on which you can ask all sorts of photography-related questions and be able to rely on getting a constructive and informative response.

Hi to you all,
My name is Mick and I live near Wallingford, Oxon.
I enjoy mostly scenic photography and use a Nikon DSLR but over the years have used rangefinder film, SLR film, bridge digital and now DSLR digital.
I think the interest is bred in as I can remember my grandfather showing me his glass plate images.
Although I have been "at it" for over 50 years I still find there are things to be learnt, that's why I'm here.

I think, Mick, that is the attitude that we need to be continually trying to embed. When you reach the point of thinking you know it all, that's when to give up.
But, of course, it also means that you have an awful lot of knowledge and experience and i hope you'll feel able to share thast with others so that they can benefit on their journey along the learning curve.
So, welcome and I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello. My name is Wally Cartwright and I am just short of 60 years old. I have always been a photography enthusiast having owned an old Pratika and a Pentax SLR when I was in my early 20's. However, apart from owing a small Panasonic Lumix digital pocket camera, I am new to digital photography.
To resurrect my hobby, my wife bought me a Panasonic DMC-G2K kit with the 14-42mm f3.5-f5.6 lens that came with it. I am currently saving to buy the 45-200mm telephoto lens that Panasonic have in their range (but they are a bit pricey)
Well that me - a relative beginner to digital photography but very willing to learn so please be gentle with me ha ha.

Hello Wally. Great to have you along and a warm welcome to you.
I hope that you like what you see on CiC and that you'll feel that it is a resource that can help you get to grips with digital photography. I always say, however, that the principles of seeing, composing and capturing a good image are just the same as they always were. It's the eye and brain of the person behind the camera that really counts. And it sounds as if you have lots of experience already in that department.
By the way, you don't say where you are. If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Buongiorno everybody,
my name is Franco, I leave in France and I am 48.
I am re-discovering the exiting word of photography; I growth up with a father professional that introduced me to the basics of photography very young.
Several years after, thanks to my son that broke my bridge I started to look into a SLR, so I red articles, books and all related material and the interest came back.
I can say that photography is for me a family story.
I like this place a lot and I am sure I will be able to learn and have fun.
J'ai trouve mon bonheur!
