Thank you for joining CiC.
I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and that you it does help you to develop your photographic knowledge and skills. I hope, too, that you find that there are lots of people on here very willing to share their experience in order to help others learn. All you have to do is ask.
So far as posting images is concerned, these two threads are aimed at helping you get the images posted in the first place and then, how to get the best out of asking for comment and criticism:
HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?
How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images
Finally, for those of you who didn't put your actual name and location into your profile ........ so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all. I literally stumbled across this site while reading another photo forum. I'm an advanced amateur photographer shooting mainly travel and landscape themed photos. I've been into photography since the early eighties and have gone completely digital since about 2000. I don't believe that you can ever learn enough about techniques and general knowledge so I read and learn as much as possible. I'm hoping I can learn and also share on this site. My equipment consists of a Canon 5D w/24-105L lens and a 75-300 zoom. Let's just say that living in the Portland, OR area, there is a "target rich environment" for photographers and I really enjoy taking drives through the countryside. You never know what exactly to expect, which is one reason it makes for a great photo safari.

Hello and welcome to CiC. Thank you for joining.

You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
I'm not a new member, but it's been a while since I've posted. I wanted to start a new thread in the camera technology category, but it seems that I am unable to.
I just purchased a used Canon 5D from B&H and was only able to use it for maybe 25 photos before the mirror became unattached. I wonder if anyone has run into this problem with the mirror, and if so is this something that can be corrected, or is the camera completely ruined?

Hello:
My name is "Jeff," and I'm from NW Ohio. I've always enjoyed shooting photographs but only did so, mostly, on "special" occassions. I just purchased my first DSLR (Canon Rebel T3), including an additional 55mm-250mm telephoto lens. I'm very anxious to increase my knowledge in photography, with hopes to move into "professional" status someday. I am mostly interested in shooting wildlife and landscape photos. I am so new to all the terminology and concepts that I would be embarassed to even try to have an intelligent conversation about it all, which is why I joined this forum. CIC seems like a great website that will help give me a good foundation upon which to build. I am looking forward to learning from all of you.
~Jeff

I'm going to post your question into a new thread in the Digital Cameras & Equipment section of the forum. Don't know why it didn't work for you. There should have been no problem. If, when you try and start another thread, you experience the same problem, please do let me know.

Jeff - I hope you'll feel that, indeed, you've found the right forum. Just over 3 years ago I was in the exact same position as you. I bought a Canon 40D and then started finding out about all these weird expressions like 'RAW file' and 'Post-processing'. I've said on here before, if I can learn it, then anyone can.
I hope you will take part, but when it feels more comfortable, please just do follow some of the discussions going on. When you come up against words, phrases, techniques or ideas that you don't understand then there are two options: Just ask. It's okay to do that on here. Or go to the tutorials section of the site. Most things are covered there in well-written easy-to-understand ways.
I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.

Hi everyone. My name is Terrie and I'd consider myself borderline beginner-intermediate in photography. I understand the basics and can shoot manual (prefer AV) but am finding there is much I still don't know. I think upgrading to Canon 7d from Rebel XSi gave me pause! Love the camera and still reading the manual, but often find I need to search for more info...which is what brought me to this site -- looking for help in avoiding silhouettes.. Love the tutorials and look forward to the forum.

Well, I suppose it could! But since a English is not the first language for a number of people on the forum, you might want to edit tour profile and take 'Yes' off against your real name, to avoid confusion.

Thank you Terrie and a warm welcome to CiC.
Sounds like you're already well underway along the learning curve. Getting to know the camera so that it becomes and extension of your fingers is certainly one of the fundamentals. Once you can operate all the controls without even having to think about it, you can concentrate solely on the composition of your picture.
Lots of people on here are very willing to share their knowledge and experience in order to help colleagues with their learning. So please do ask questiosn and join in the discussions. And, of course, post up some of your work.
You don't say where you are. If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everybody. I am Raju. I stay in Mumbai, INDIA. I am an occasional amateur photographer. Occasional meaning "when the urge arises". I must admit that i am a gadget freak. I want to utilize the equipment more meaningfully form here on. i have no specific liking for photographing a particular style of photography. I shoot birds from my home, do travel photography with my family when on a vacation, and occasionally do some street photography. my equipment list is as NIKON D800E, NIKON 24MM PC-E, NIKON 16-35MM VR, NIKON 70-200MM VR, NIKON 200-400 VR, ZEISS 50MM F2, ZEISS 100 MAKRO, NIKON TC20, NIKON TC 14, FILTERS ETC.
I WOULD LOVE TO GET A FEEDBACK from all as how can i better improve my composition and image quality "while shooting" cause i have little time to do post processing.
all feedback is welcome. good luck to all.
