Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Just joined the forum and thought I'd share a little of my photography experience. Even though I took photography courses and did some of my own B&W darkroom work in college (early 1980's), I was mostly a point and shoot snapshot gal until we bought a cabin in Colorado in 2009. With all the wildlife literally walking up to my door, my interest in photography was renewed and I bought a DSLR (Canon XSi). I took refresher courses on the basics and now find myself signing up for photography tours and going places specifically for taking photographs. My main interests are wildlife, landscape and macro (to the extent I can manage without a macro lens).
This forum looks like a great resource and I look forward to participating and also getting feedback on my photos. It's really difficult to self evaluate when you are still learning what to look for. Thanks so much to the people who provide this great place to share ideas and learn!

Hi JPS
I have a Fuji F600EXR. I also have a Fuji Finepix S8000fd that I've had for a while. What I'm trying to achieve is being able to turn of auto and know a bit about what I'm doing
I've taken some decent shots with the old one but thats pure fluke and I can't do the same thing twice.
No current pics to upload yet but I'll load a couple soon I hope. I'm still reading the manual!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi kitt,
Fuji makes some good cameras; in fact it was my first (Bridge) camera before I bought my Canon DSLR. I have some excellent pictures from mine and I'm sure you will with get some with your one. If you start posting as soon as you can, we will do all we can to help you and hopefully make the quailty of your pictures repeatable.
Don't forget the tutorials on the site, you will find them a great help.
Power to your 'Shutter' finger. :D

Greetings and Salutations,
My name is Steve and I'm currently residing in Utah. Photography has always been an interesting and captivating brain wave of mine for a hobby, but I've never taken the plunge until now.
I currently do not have a camera and am starting from ground zero with gear (currently researching to buy) and knowledge on this subject, so I'm pretty excited. I enjoy hiking and taking in the beautiful outdoors that this world has to offer and feel that I want to record the wonderful moments for long term memory and to share my wonderful experiences with others. I imagine that I will start off with nature shots as I tend to really enjoy natural beauty.
Thank you to those that created a learning community and I'm excited to read more and learn from what this site and others have to say on this subject.
Steve

Hi Steve,
I would urge you not just to be a reader; you will learn quicker if you ask us the specific questions that are perplexing you - the only daft question is the one nobody asks ;)
You'll find us very tolerant here (compared to some places on the web), so there's no need to fear being ridiculed or made fun of.
When I started here, I also found posting images for critique was another great way to learn.
How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images is a thread devoted to making the most of that.
Welcome to the CiC forums from ...

Hi Leigh,
Well, I can't guess from the weather where you are (in yUK), because it's been raining everywhere :D
By all means post your own questions (you may have already), but you might find the tag cloud link on Infra-red useful.

Hi Bill,
The knack to conquering the initimidating aspect is to tackle one problem at a time, I see you have a post count of 2 as I type this, so hopefully you are off to a good start.

Hi Steve,
Given your interests, my advice would be don't go overboard with the equipment purchasing too soon. I survived for about a couple of years with a bridge camera - much cheaper and lighter (for hiking) than a full blown DSLR and several lenses.
That said, it does depend upon your intentions, if you intend to attempt to sell any images, a DSLR will probably be necessary, or at least a RAW shooting bridge camera - but I have possibly said too much already, so I'll pipe down and let you ask questions in the Digital Cameras & Equipment forum at your own pace.
