Hi,

I am recently retired and an absolute beginner. I am hoping to make photography a hobby, but am wasting a lot of time reading, which involves trying to decipher a lot of technical data. I am hoping that some of you more experienced members will be able to give me some advice.

Firstly - A very warm welcome

Secondly - Please do not get caught up in technical data. Get out there and shoot photographs. The technical stuff has its place, but in my book it comes way down the list behind getting out there and learning by doing. You could spend your life trying to understand the technical stuff before getting out to shoot ......... and end up never taking your camera out of the box.

As far as CiC is concerned, whenever you come up against a bit of jargon or techno-speak (and even we on here slip into it) that you don't understand, just ask. The lovely thing about this forum is there is no question that is to simple to ask. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

So, I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and that we'll see you joining in with those questions and, of course, some of those pictures.

I agree with what you say. Being out, alone with all my attention directed towards capturing a good photograph, is a very therapeutic experience.

I joined this forum almost 2 years ago but never posted anything. Actually I realized today that I never posted when I saw the message at top. I was mainly reading, a lot of reading. Learned quite a bit about photography.
Most of the time I searched before asking question and found answers.

It's never too late to jump in and start being active on the forum. I hope that, now you've started, you will feel able to start asking questions, posting images, etc. And I hope you enjoy iy.

By the way, you've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

Greetings, my name's Andy, I have joined this website as I think it is about time I got interested in photography again and here through various searches made recently, here comes up with the tutorials and answers to questions I have asked, so here seemed a good photography website to join after I quit TDS years ago.

My location is the rather wet South West of England, Plymouth to be precise and my style of photography is landscape, urban and general interest. I do have a digital SLR, an old Nikon D70 with a couple of third party zooms of which I have had for seven years and so far it has done all I need, so I really do hope it soldiers of for a good while longer, as I do like that camera a lot, but 5k actuations I do wonder. I also have PS CS5 which takes care of the D70 weak low pass IR filter issue, not that it is that much of an issue for me, but there is always a way around an issue if it is a problem. But good at last I have taken the interest to join a photo forum once again.

1st of all, allow me to introduce myself, i am currently 37, living in Bochum, Germany and really enjoy to read the various chapters about photography here on this Website, you can call me Marc, that's my name.

i'm new to this Forum, also i am reading this "Cambridge in Color" Website as Silent Reader for a way long time, glad to see i'm being here "on the train" and hopefully get more insights, helpful Feedback to improve my photography skills.

Photography is both a passion and a hobby, so i am a Amateur Photographer for years, not a pro, because i can't afford the gear, just doing pictures to keep track of my own memories and have fun with it, i also have a dA (deviantart) Homepage for sth over 2 years, maybe i'd post the link later someday. I bought my 1st compact Digicam back in 2002, currently i am using a elder Sony Bridge, which i still love even with the flaws (slow AF, plastique body, slow RAW write times, etc.) and a small Nikon D40, together with a Sigma DP1s. I am using Photoshop CS5, knowing PS for ages, but at the early 90's i've used Paint Shop Pro since 2.0...'til 12.5, in the meantime & in between i used also PS sometimes, for things that didn't worked with PSP. So Capture NX2 & CS5 are my main Tools. Incredible Images here on CiC, very great works.


So, i am happy to be here on CiC, looking for what is coming next. ;-)

Hi,
I'm Charles from Brisbane, Australia. I had been interested in photography for a long time before I recently bought myself a Canon 550d. I am now hoping to learn how to use the camera but also the techniques and features of photography. I mostly shoot Motorsport but also the odd landscape or two. From general surfing of this site I have already absorbed so much information about photography and am eager to learn more. It's hard to find websites dedicated to assisting "budding" photographers so I'm glad I found this one.

Hey All! I stumbled on this site while trying to learn more about my camera. I've found it to be extremely helpful. I don't know if I'll be able to contribute much, but do appreciate everyone here and thank you for your experience.

I'm 47 and was an Art Major in college. I didn't do too much in photography then because it was too expensive a major for me. Recently I've been playing around in Photoshop, which is way cool! I've found that it all starts with a a good photo. So, I need to re-learn the old stuff I once knew and learn all the new stuff about this great new world of digital photography.

I have a basic Sony Cybershot. I call it my "Mickey Mouse close and Play". I can't justify a more expensive camera until I've mastered this one.

Should I post a picture on this thread to show you what I think I've done that is good? and ask for feedback?

I am relatively new to the photography art and keen to really learn all the techniques etc. I have been dabbling with IR and am now looking at HDR so should get some interesting shots in Alaska, I hope.

I am Shirley P Green I shoot Nikon have D70 & D7000 about to sell D70 To my daughter so I can put money toward a Tokina 11-16. Trying to determine whether I should wait for the dx II to come out or just dive in. I have nikkor 50 1.8 (just bought 1.4 waiting it to arrive) nikkor 18-70 & 70-300mm. Aso have old 24mm 1.8 manual prime.

I live in Tampa FL but remain a California girl because that is where I lived for most of my life. I am also the proud owner or many many camera bags & gadgets as well as film cameras.

Photography is a hobby for me. I am in awe of professional photographers especially wedding photographers - the need nerves of steel & the patience of Job LOL.

Good morning, I am Ron Lane and I have just gotten starting shooting with my first DSLR camera, a Canon T3i. I got it with the kit lenses of 18-55mm and a 55-250mm. I have added uv and polarized filters and looking to add more glass to the collection.

I live in Mustang, OK and am trying to start my own photography business. I am here to learn and improve my skills and even share the knowledge I have.

I'm as amateur in photo since many argentic time. I had Leica, Nikon, Rolleiflex. But I'm a newbie in DSLR since June 2012.
