Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone, I'm from Oklahoma, and in the next month hope to be moving to Kenya to volunteer for an NGO. I have also lived in Germany, so had wonderful subject matter for photography as we traveled all over Europe. (Not so much in Oklahoma!)
I've taken some great pictures over the years with Olympus and Fuji digital cameras with 10x zoom, but was limited in resolution and really missed the control I had with my old Minolta SLR. I recently got a hand-me-down DSLR (Canon 300D), and it's like a whole new world has opened. I've used photography as a travel journal to share with family and friends, but just recently took tentative steps to take it to the next level. I entered my first competition for a county fair last fall, and really liked having the critiquing from fellow photographers, as well as garnering a few ribbons. This site has already been a great resource, and I'm looking forward to learning from all of you!
Sandi
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
:rolleyes:Hi People,
Just to say hello and I am looking forward to learning to find my way around the world of photography. My partner gave me a Canon 550D to upgrade my old 350D but I will keep it as a back up. (I think the new camera was to get me out of the house more!):)
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi,
My name is Jos. I live and work in Belgium.
My native language is Dutch (Flemish) but English has never had a lot of secrets to me.
Photography was my second love. I have occasionally developed b/w negatives.
The far too many pictures I take fill-up my hard-drive and now and then I destroy the unusable and develop the better ones.
I have recently posted few of them on deviantArt to get familiar with the 'showing-my-pictures-in-public' idea.
Since then I spend more time reading forums and information all over the world.
I used a second hand Olympus E420 (whole kit €380) to complement my analog equipment (a bunch of Zuikos, an OM-2 SP) and still love it's wonderful IQ.
Because I took too many pictures in my head, there should be a camera to have always with me. So I bought an Olympus XZ-1 in early 2011 because of it's excellent RAW-files and ability to take pictures in dark(er) situations.
Recently I gave my Olympus E-420 to my daughter and bought a second hand E-3. My goal is to be able to always make pictures - even / especially in bad weather.
In the near future I would like to learn all about street-photography. As of today, my grandchild is my main model.
I have been using any kind of camera for many years, but somehow I know I will make photo's until I breath no more. So I would like to stop making pictures and to start making photographs.
Jos
(Joseph actually, but nobody - since school - calls me that)

Hello, all. My name is Al and I am living in San Antonio, Texas, USA. I am a retired engineer and now have more time to devote to photography, a hobby I have pursued for the last 60 years. My gear of choice now is Lumix M4/3 which gives me a very portable system with quality that easily exceeds my talent. I am interested in learning about many types of photography and why some photographs are considered far superior to others. I hope to learn from others on this forum and perhaps get some feedback on my work. Thanks for the opportunity to join the group.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
A very big welcome to all those folks who have joined up during the UK night just past.
First thing I'd say to those of you who haven't put your name and/or location into your profile is - so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello Jun. Certainly everyone on here will encourage you and support you in moving away from using auto settings and to start taking control of your picture-taking, rather than leaving it to the camera to make decisions.

What you say about learning and sharing is, I think, so very true. There is nothing more satisfying that being able to increase and develop knowledge and understanding and to be able to share that.

That's one of the wonderful things about being invovled in photography. It trains you to see things with much better clarity and in more detail than you ever did before.

Hi, my name is Tirtha Pratim Das, from India. Photography is my new hobby. With my Fujifilm S4000 camera, I am now exploring the different features of the manual mode to take pictures in different conditions. The tutorials at CiC have been very useful to me. As a beginner, my photographs may not be perfect, but I solicit the comments and suggestions from experienced photographers in order to improve my photography skill.
Attached here is a photograph taken by me with the following settings :
Shutter speed : 8 seconds
ISO : 100
f No. 3.1
Lens : Fujinon
The clarity of the picture and the colour tone are the ones that I liked a lot. See it below.

Hello, I am a new member and my name is Jill. I stumbled upon this forum and loved how much information there was here to learn from you. I am but a grasshopper to many of you masters, but I learn quickly and no challenge is unreachable. Hope to engage in some great discussions. I have not gone to school for photography, but am learning much by trial and error as well as picking the brains of others. I figure when it's all said and done you either have an artistic eye or you don't and nobody can teach that. :) Jilly

That's one of the most sensible posts I've read for a long time.
Welcome Jill, I think you're going to feel right at home on here. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.
