Hi.
My name is Phil Ashmore. I am 67 years old and live in Sheffield, UK.
I am passionate about my photography but unfortunately, being quite severely disabled somewhat limited in photographic opportunities and locations so most of my photography is close to home.
I have recently purchased a Canon DSLR 550D, which I love but now contemplating upgrading to the 650D'
I am looking forward to meeting like minded enthusiasts

Phil - There are plenty of them on here, so a very warm welcome to you.
You write about being disabled. Is that in relation to affecting your mobility? I hope and think that one of the things you'll find on here are lots of ideas about how you can develop your photography in an endless number of ways. I realised, when i got involved, that I had a very narrow perception of what photography was about. People on here continually open and expand my mind as to what the possibilities in photography are.
I hope you enjoy being involved in CiC and that being so does help you extend your knowledge and skills
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Greetings All, My name is Alex and I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I've enjoyed photography for several years using digital point and shoot cameras. I currently shoot with a Canon T3I that I've had for almost a year and I'm loving it. I have 18-55mm IS, 50mm and 55-250mm IS lenses. I would like to begin by thanking CIC for existing as you were instrumental with me making the transition from point & shoot to the incredible world of DSLR. The tutorials were invaluable with helping me make informed decisions with respect to the gear that I've acquired, again big "THANKS". I'm not a fan of social media but felt compelled to join the CIC community to both learn and share. Thanks for having me!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello, I'm a new member; my name is Jamie. I've been looking at some of the threads' photos and I'm a bit overwhelmed by the quality of the shots. But I'm gonna try to be brave and post some pics. I did read the welcome thread but still confused on where to get started.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello everyone, my name is Clemente, and I am very glad to join this group. I am new to photography but very eager to learn. I live in Paraguay, but I really like the tutorials and cool features in this site. Glad to join you all!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Alex, Jamie, Clemente: A very warm welcome to each of and welcome to CiC.
Alex - I'm not in to that social media thing either, but I hope and think that you will find this a very different environment and one in which you will find like-minded people all sharing the desire to engage in ongoing learning and development.
Jamie - The important thing to remember is that everyone on here was once at the stage of development that you are now at. They weren't born being able to make great images. They had to learn. So, please do get involved and do post up some of your work fro constructive comment and criticism. That's one of the best ways of learning.
Clemente - I am glad you're finding the tutorials helpful. I hope that being part of the forum will add to the enjoyment and also to your learning.

Hi,
I'm Christa, originally from Germany, now from Canberra. Being fairly new to digital photography I love to browse through CiC and the forum, but so far haven't had the courage to upload anything myself. There's a lot to learn from here, and I hope I will also be able to give something back. In the pre-digital age I had a Minolta XG1 (yes, that was a while ago . . . .), but never gained real expertise. Now I use a Canon EOS 550D and love it, but would also like to have more control over it rather than being restricted to the odd lucky shot.

Hey guys :D
Names Jordan, studying Visual FX and Motion Graphics in Uni, had a lesson on the basics of photography a couple of months ago, so thought i'd buy myself a 550D and been addicted ever since. Been using the stock lens for a while now so hoping to upgrade to a telephoto and improve the aspect of my shots.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
hello
I am new to this site and have dabbled in photography for a long while but now until I had my first grandchild did I buy my own camera (Nikon D60). I love it and have got a lot of great shots but will probably buy a better one soon with some more lenses. I am trying to use manual settings as much as possible. Love to look at shots by others though. I also live on a lake and walk with my camera early mornings so get lots of sunrise and great sunsets as well in the evening. Will post some soon

Hi Christa,
welcome to CiC, it's great to have you with us.
I agree there is a lot to learn and the best way, IMO is to post some of your pictures so others can offer you advice on improving them.
This is a good site and you need not worry about posting your work and getting involved.
I look forward to speaking to you again.

Hello everyone. My name is David, and I live in Santa Rosa CA, about an hour north of San Francisco. I have been interested in photography for years, and while I am far from an expert, I do consider myself a bit more than a beginner. I currently have a Canon T2i, and an Olympus TG-820, which is used as my "carry everywhere" camera. I use Photoshop Elements 10 for post processing, and have the Topaz Labs suite as plug-ins. I have a lot to learn, and am looking forward to gaining whatever knowledge I can from everyone here.

Hi Jordan,
a warm welcome to CiC.
I know what you mean I few years ago I bought a bridge camera and found I couldn't put it down. I then went off and bought a DSLR and still cannot stop using both cameras, addictive I think they call it. lol
Stock or kit lenses certainly do a good job in most cases and once you know the direct your photography is heading you can decide if a more dedicated len is needed.
I look forward to seeing your work.

Hi Postpal,
it's great to have you with us and thank you for joining.
What better reason could one have for buying a new camera; your grandchildren.:)
I like the attached picture; the composition is something a little different which is alway nice, well done.
I look forward to seeing more of your work.
On behalf of our Mod's, it would be nice if you would consider adding your real 'first' name and a rough location. Most members just like to use first names and have some idea of where you are in the world; we are a friendly bunch, honest.
Once again it's great to have you with us.

Hello,
First off, please accept my apology for my English, am not a native speaker.
I started this new hobby four years ago after retirement, and found this site recently.
Lectures in the site is very much helpful as a beginner of this highly complex hobby.
Would appreciate guru's help for improvement.

Hello, I am Blake. I have been playing with my Digital Olympus E 500 for about 3 years, mostly used outside around the house and on vacation with my parents. I have never joined a community site like this before, or ever posted anything outside of Facebook. Goals I would like to accomplish is, getting more familiar with photo editing software like Photoshop and also learn to take manual photos; adjusting the aperture,F-stop,ISO and shutter speed in conjunction for a excellent photo. I have two Lomography cameras coming in the mail soon, and a trip to Washington DC in September. I'd love to share Austin Texas with you all and my photos!
Blake!

Hello Blake. I'm very glad that you decide to make CiC your first venture into joining a photography forum. I hope what you will find on here are lots of people who are very willing to share their knowledge and experience in order to help others learn and develop their skills. So, if you have questions, or wish to discuss any particular point or issue about photography, please do get right in there. And of course, post up seem of your images. Can't wait to see what you produce with Lomo cameras. Make sure you post them up.
If you need any help in posting images, then please read - HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?
Great to have you here.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi my name is JP and I was just introduced to this site by a friend. I am a photography enthusiast as well as as self-taught, none of my pictures have been modified in any way with post-processing programs. So any help is always appreciated. I have been working in Antarctica for the last two years where I've had the chance to take stunning pictures. I currently live at the geographic South Pole where I am wintering over.
http://i47.tinypic.com/nexcm8.jpg
This photo of the geographic South Pole was taken in brutal conditions only a few days after sunset which is on March 21. The conditions were brutal with the wind blowing very strongly. The temperatures were around -70C and close to -100C with the wind chill. A magical moment to be there alone in the most remote place on the planet, the southernmost person on Earth...
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I think it's something of a honour for us to have on here one of the few people who have ever been to the South Pole, but even moreso, one who is there right now and is giving us images from there. Fascinating and awesome.
It reminds of the the circumstances in which you are living when you tell us that sunset was on March 21st. When is sunrise?
We have already exchanged greetings Jean-Pierre, but please let me accord you a very public welcome here on the forum.
I do hope that you will enjoy being part of CiC.
