    Hello Everyone,

My name is Dawn. I'm an avid amature nature photographer. I started out with a Nikon D60 and recently upgraded to a D7000 for a recent trip to Yellowstone National Park.

I have found the tutorials and information on this site very helpful, and look forward to interacting with you all on the forums.

    Hello,
My name is Angie and I have been interested in photography since high school. Two years ago my Dad bought me a Canon Rebel T2i and photoshop and I have been dabbling here and there ever since. I am somewhat frustrated on how much there is to know. I have some of the basics down but can't wait to see what others say. So glad I found this site and so glad I joined.

I've lived in Hawaii for about a decade after many years in New England. I started with a point and shoot in 2004 and switched to a Canon DSLR in 2006. I enjoy landscape photography and I desire to seriously improve my landscape photography and also venture into other areas of photography.

Hello all. I live in the backwoods of the Ottawa Valley in Ontario, Canada. I have taken up photography as my retirement project and have taken a couple of courses at the local college. I use a Canon 7D, which really is too much camera - wish I had purchased something smaller, although I intend to persist. Most of what I capture consists of wildflowers, weeds, patent/split-rail fences and snow. I look forward to improving my camera technique and getting to know the forum.

Hi, I'm Amber. I recently switched from a Canon xTi to a 3Ti and still learning. Have been using the CiC tutorials for years, thank you so much for offering them. Hoping to learn more here (such as why I can't seem to get the clarity and sharpness all of you have). I live in southern IN and my most-often used subjects are horses, flowers, and cars. Looking forward to learning all I can from you all! Thanks!

A wonderful rush of new sign-ups in the last 14-15 hours.

    Welcome one and all.

First thing - For those of you who haven't put your proper name, location or both into your profile, you've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

You lucky person. I hope you enjoyed it and that we'll get to see some of the results.

I'm glad CiC is proving helpful and hope that, now your involved in the forum, it becomes even more useful.

That is something that everyone experiences, Angie. You're not alone. Just remember that whenever you look at ana image and go 'Wow' and think that the photographer must be brilliant, he or she was once at the exact same point on the learning curve that you are now at.

Well, I certainly hope this forum can contribute to that improvement, Jeff. I hope you'll find lots of people on here who are very happy to share knowledge and experience and to offer constructive comments and advice.

Hi all, I am Andy from the Mendip hills in Somerset. I have been looking for the last month and have found this to be a site that welcomes all including myself as a newbie, I have enjoyed photography for a number of years but only using a point & shoot.
I recently purchased a Canon 550D. I have been out taking quite a lot of shots. I do now think I have one worth posting for the usual comments that are shared on this site. I have picked up a huge amount just from reading the forum. It has been enough to to take the plunge and register. I will of course post said shot in due time.

Thank you John, I have fond memories of 6 months spent in Essex working, I stayed in Chelmsford & Basildon the 2 are worlds apart, I travelled across the whole county during those 6 months, you have a world of pictures on your doorstep, not so unlike myself.
The wonderful Mendip hills (Cheddar, it would be a crime to not mention Bath or even Wells) I do recall some fantastic areas for seascapes in Essex.

    Hi Andy,
I work in Chelmsford, but live about 15 miles outside, in the countryside. I hope to get back to Cheddar soon and get some pictures, I haven't been there for a few years now. I love your part of the country and one day soon; when I retire hope to move to the area; with my camera in hand. Your 550D is a nice camera with a great spec. there's certainly not much you won't be able to do with it.
What type of picture are you shooting the most?

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi, I'm Amanda. Born and raised near Sacramento, California. Just bought a DSLR a couple years ago and decided I needed to educate the heck out of myself to take photos to the best of the Canon T2i's ability. This really hit home a couple of months ago when I spent two weeks in Ireland. 3000 photos later, I'm hooked. I need all the help I can get, so here I am.

    Thanks.

(please give me advice! I'm just starting to figure out how to edit photos and change my camera settings!)

    Hi John,
Well landscapes mainly, I may have a try at seascapes in the coming weeks, as I work in a city there is the possiblity of extending into architecture at a later date.

Amanda - It's great to have you here. A very warm welcome.

I'm delighted to hear you've been hooked.

First thing I'd say is - Don't try to learn everything at once. Take it one step at a time. If you try and take it all on at once, you'll get totally overwhelmed and disillusioned, because you'll feel you're not learning fast enough and that everything is still confusing.

Lots and lots of people on here will be very willing to share their knowledge and experience and to give you advice and guidance. All you need to do is ask the questions. There is no such a thing as a dumb question on CiC. You're question will probably have been asked before, but that's okay.

When you do ask a question, try and give people as much information as possible. For example, tell folks if you're shooting RAW files JPGs. If the latter, then one of the first things I hope we'll help you do is change that to RAW. Why? Because shooting RAW then gives you much more control of what the finished image looks like. And ...... becuase you have a Canon DSLR, you will have got a copy of Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP) with it. Is that what you are using for post-processing, or are you using some other software? Tell folks these things when you're asking about things like camera settings and post-processing.

And most of all, enjoy it. Enjoy your photography and enjoy being part of this forum where it doesn't matter what you're skill level is, just so long as you're enthusiastic and wanting to learn and develop.
