Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everybody ... I have decided to join the forum as I really want to learn about photography. At the outset, I am a helicopter pilot in the army and I happen to have the luck to get my hands on a Mamiya 645 DF with 4 lenses; a 55-110 mm, 35 mm, 150 mm and 210 mm with it. It belongs to my Squadron but as there aren't anybody well versed with photography it is lying pretty much unused. So if anybody wants to guide me from the word 'Go', it would be great.
New Member - Heather from United Kingdom.
Hi, This is a new experience joining a forum and look forward to seeing what happens now that I have joined in. I am about a third of a way through a distance learning course and have been supplementing the materials by looking at the tutorials on this site. Really enjoying both. I started using a Canon DSLR camera in March and a whole new photographic world has opened up. Loving it. At the moment, I am getting regular opportunities to travel to Washington State, USA, so lots of new wonderful photographic opportunities too. Am wondering if the software provided with the camera bears any comparison to photoshop, as I know will be doing editing etc quite soon.

Hi, I am Inaki from Spain. I did practice photography years ago with an analogic camera. These last two years I have been practicing with my new Canon DSLR. I like to read about photography to contribute to my skills.

Hi. I'm John from western Mass, USA . I'm 53 yrs old and will be retiring to Florida in a few years. My ideal retirement is slogging around the swamps looking for birds with a camera. I'm using an old Nikon dslr currently but will be updating soon. My primary reason for joining the site is to learn as much as possible, and to enjoy viewing the works of others.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
My name is Phil and I live in Newberry, SC. Like some of the others here I was impressed by the site and decided to join. My experience in digital photography is nill. I owned a Petri 35mm SLR while in the Service. No auto anything made it a good learning tool. But when it died too many years ago, Tutors, music teachers, pianos, band, and the list goes on, came first for our girls. Back to the good old P&S camera. AHH! Then came Emily, Our first and probably only granddaughter. Now I have a Sony a390 with a DT 18-55mm f-3.5-5.6 SAM kit lens. And I bought a Tamron 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 LH Tele-Macro (1:3.9) lens. (Wow, that's a lot of numbers for an old man to remember, much less know what they mean). I havn't used it but it seems ok with a tripod. Don't know about the macro yet. In case you didn't notice, I seem to ramble a lot. Sorry, bad habit. I'll try to stay on target in the future. Any way...I hope to show some images, get some advice, pick some brains and learn some things. Thanks for having me.
Regards,
Phil

Greetings Earthlings!
My name is Richard. I work in Cambridge on one of the science research campuses and live in Newmarket. A displaced Northerner and economic migrant, I moved here last year and found this place quite by accident (those fabulous tutorials!)- but being so local I'm glad I did!
I got into photography as a result of carving pumpkins for Halloween. All my carving was going to waste as my photos were rubbish. Resolved to get a better camera and improve my technique. Picked up an entry level DSLR (Canon 450D) use my kit lens and a 50mm prime and we've gone from there. I never started with automatic; I dove straight into "manual" and stayed there (with occasional deviations in aperture and shutter priority!) I've been practising using bracketed exposures to create HDR (from reading StuckinCustoms Blog, some long exposures and Flickr. I suppose I'm somewhat of a mimic: if I see a photo I like to work to try and emulate it and learn how they did it. like to work on things (I call projects) an idea I mull over and work at. Do and then edit. I'm excited about the possibilities of Adobe's Creative Cloud and getting my hands on all that lovely software! I currently edit using Photomatix, Photoshop Elements and some Topaz Labs for masking work.
Next week am off to Weymouth for a week investigating rocky shores, harbours, castles, lighthouses and the like. Am taking my intervalometer and will probably try some time-lapse too.
I look forward to making friends here and I'll see you around.

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable way to spend part of your retirement, John.
Hello, welcome and thanks for joining CiC.
As it says on the masthead, CiC is very much a learning resource, so I hope that it works that way for you.
By the way, o that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

Aahh, music to my ears. Well done. I think it makes the creation of images a much more satisfying and enjoyable experience.
By the way, are those some of the masks you carved in that image? If so, that is amazing.[/QUOTE]

Hello,
Allan here,I am from Glasgow,Scotland and am the most unknowledgeable of novices having recently bought a Canon 550D, 50mm f1.4 and 15-85 lenses I am venturing out into the world of photography and realise I am at the end of a very steep learning curve but hoping to pick a few folks brains and at least master the basics.

Nice to have another Scots based member. Welcome, Allan. Great to have you on board.
CiC declares itself to be a learning resource. So, I hope you'll feel you've arrived at the right place online that will help you learn and develop those skills. Between the tutorials and the help and advice that will be available on here, I don't think you'll be lacking for sources of advice and guidance.
The one thing about this forum, is that there is no such thing as a dumb question. Everybody, at one time, has had to learn all the things that you are about to learn.
So, please do dive in - questions, comments, images for critique.
If you need any help on posting image, then read - HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?. And to get the best possible feedback on images that you post, have a read of - How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Image.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Greetings, I have been out of photography for quite a while. I wasted a lot of film and paper many years ago and am now trying to wrap my brain around the digital world. I am shooting with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i (I think that is a D500 for you non US folks) with a Sigma 18 - 250 lens. I am also playing with GIMP2 for post processing. After lurking about here on the forums and tutorials I have already learned "SHOOT IN RAW"!! I am looking forward to broadening my horizons here. Cheers,
Blake
