Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everybody...
My name is Ranji. I live in Scotland, and am hooked on landscape and wildlife photography. I started in earnest about 4 years ago, and must admit that I am still very much a novice. I stumbled on this website when I was doing some online research prior to setting out on a walking safari to Mana Pools in Zimbabwe earlier this year. I hope to learn from the experience and from constructive critique of work that I intend to submit during my presence here at CinC. BTW, I am a Nikon enthusiast, but hold no bad feelings towards the other (Canon) side!!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
I've been photographing landscape and wildlife for a few years and thought I would learn more from this site and its tutorials. I found the forum and thought it would be a good place to chat with others about gear and seek advice and also to see from a photographers point of view how my photos are progressing. On sites I generally post to, the emphasis is more on the subject matter so to have some critique of the shot would be helpful. Hope to enjoy the experience with you on the site. Val
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and that you get from it whatever you seek in terms of advice, guidance, assisatnce, etc.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello Everyone!
Another newbie here:)
I found out about this website in a photography class last night at my local community college. I just started school for photography last month and I wish to pursue it possibly as a 2nd career choice or to supplement my income when I retire. That means I have about 10 years to figure this all out! :p I know - everyone thinks they're a photographer these days! Even if this doesn't pan out, I love photography and taking pictures - especially of the places I visit.
I'm from the Chicago area and have lived here all my life.
This looks like a great place to learn more and I'm excited to have become a member!!
Carol

If someone there has mentioned CiC, that must be a really good college.
Seriously, it's nice to hear that there are people out there who recommend the site as a good resource fro learning. That's certainly why it exists.
So, I hope you enjoy being involved, Carol. And remember - There is no such thing as a dumb question on here. And, secondly, people on here remember that they were once at the point that you are now at on the learning curve. Everybody has to learn and that's why people on here are always willing too share knowledge and experience.
So, if you want to discuss some issues that get raised on your college course, want to explore some new idea, or just want to check out some information, then please do post up messages.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I am a retired math teacher in Ontario, Canada, who decided last summer to spice up the retirement by learning to be an amateur artist, mainly portraits. A handful of my early efforts were given to extended family members, and I quickly realized that a visual record of these portraits would be important to me. Much of my work has been with pastels, which rules out using a scanner. So photography has been added to my hobbies. Here is a photo (using a Canon S90) of one of my first pastels (of one of my beautiful grandnieces!).
http://i46.tinypic.com/162885i.jpg
The original photo was bowed around the edges, so it went into Photoshop where the "distort" tool was used. Being somewhat of a perfectionist, I would like my photo record to be as accurate as possible (within the limits of my budget). My remarkable 10 year old CoolPix 4500 has been revived and is being studied, and now a DSLR has been added to my photography arsenal. I have become fascinated by questions concerning the interface between human visual perception, art and photography, and this looks like an excellent forum for such matters. I look forward to an enlightening experience! -- Stasch
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Stasch - A very warm welcome to you. I'm glad you found us and I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.
As you may have already discovered, there are lots of people on here with all sorts of knowledge and experience. The common thread running through it is that this is very much a forum on which sharing and seeking to support others is the order of the day.
That's a very nice picture. Lovely shape, texture and lighting on her hair.
By the way, I don't know if Stasch is your proper name or just a username. If the latter and so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi All
My names is Gareth Williams and I currently live in Barry, South Wales.
I am a retired Police Officer having served for 30 years in the South Wales Police. I am now a self employed Consultant Trainer, specialising inEmergency Service comunications software.
I am very new to photography and currently use a FujiFilm finepix SL240 bridge camera but am hoping very soon to upgrade to a Canon EOS 50d. Before this I was very much a 'happy snapper'.
I look forward to being a member of this group and realise I have an awful lot to learn.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Gareth,
Welcome to CiC, it's great to have you with us.
I too started with a Fujifilm camera before progressing to a Canon DSLR. I must say my Fujifim is a great little camera that takes some quality pictures; I certainly wouldn't part with it and still use it in conjunction with my Canon today.
In my opinion this is a great site with good tutorials and members that are knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge with other members. If you want to learn more about Photography then you have come to the right place.
Once again welcome and I look forward to seeing your pictures and talking to you over the coming weeks.
Regards
John
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all,
Just found this site when looking for some tips and thought I would sign up. Have been into photography for the last 3-4 years and have really got into it. Mostly landscapes and kayaking photography but have just done a wedding and really enjoyed the whole process.
Still a lot to learn but like that feeling when you know you have just taken a photo and you know it's something a bit special.

Finger crossed the weather holds so we can all get out and about, but I am looking forward to getting some 'winter' type shots this year.
