Pippa - it's great to have you here. thanks you for signing-up
You don't say where you are. If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
I hope that, for you, you've found the right online resource to help you with your learning. That is what the site is all about.
Congratulations of the D700. I hope we can help you get the best out of it.
Hello all!
My name is Katie and I shoot with a Canon T1i. I also like to play with film. Stumbled upon the site when I was searching for tutorials and really liked the idea of the mini competitions. I've already submitted my shots to the open ones. I look forward to meeting all of you and learning a bit too. :3
Hi all, this seems like a great place to learn new things. My name is Ted, and I live in MASS. of the U.S.A., I have recently become unable to work do to a spinal problem and have decided to try and use photography to keep me busy, this is only a hobby for now. I currently own an old Fujifilm FinePix A205, and it will be the only camera I can use for now, money is an issue. Since I live in a very beautifull tree filled mountiness area, I think outdoor nature scenes will be my primary subject. I am a complete noob at this, so any advice is welcome, as long as you do not insist on new equipment, I just can't make it happen at this time. So please, help me learn how to vary my shots, what the different settings on this camera will alow me to do, and must of all, how I can enjoy myself without putting strain on my back. I thank you all in advance.
Hi Ted,
a warm welcome to CiC from me.
I'm sorry to hear of your spinal problems; I know how painful this can be, as my wife suffers from back problems as well.
Fujifilm FinePix A205, produces great pictures and I don't think for one minute anyone on this site would try pushing you to buy a newer camera, unless it was something you could both afford and wanted to do. The aim of this site is to learn and share your pictures with its members; getting feedback and C&C from some very experienced members that are more than willing to share their knowledge; for FREE, you can’t get better than that.
The main thing is to enjoy what your doing with the camera kit you have.
I look forward to seeing your work.
Kind regards Sir.
John
Hi there,
I'm new to photography. I moved recently to San Francisco, and there are just so many things to see, and photos to take. I've just been snapping them all with my iPhone, but I've quickly realized that is not going to produce lasting pictures long term. So I've decided to invest in a nice DSLR, and learn how to use it. The tutorials here have been wonderfully informative, and they've given me confidence that I will actually be able to produce better photos, and not just waste money.
I would like to photograph architecture, flowers, pets, landscapes, and maybe even some micro. Here's to the start of a journey!
Hi, I'm Kathie. I live on the Gold Coast, Queensland on the east coast of Australia. I like to paint and started taking digital photos around 6 years ago. I am self taught in art and photography, I sell prints of my work on various art sites and also sell stock photography. There is always something new to learn and understand, so I'm here to learn and improve my photography and graphic art skills. My previous employment through the years, included working as a Secretary/Personal Assistant and also as a Sales and Marketing Consultant in Residential Property Development. My passion is mainly for unusal macro photography. I love to find the illusion of a landscape or abstract art in nature and urban areas. A beautiful seascape found in a rock or tree bark, a mountainscape found from a car wrecking yard or boat bottom.....finding hidden beauty in the macro world where most people would just pass by. I'm looking forward to spending some time reading the forums and hopefully picking up new hints and tips to improve my work.
Hello and welcome to CiC. I hope that being part of this forum will help you on the new journey you're about to embark upon. This is very much a place for learning, so please do ask questions, seek opinions, etc. If you don't ask, you don't learn.
By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Good to have you here.
Kathie - Thanks for that introduction to yourself and your thinking about photography. I think you will find a number of people on here who very much connect with what you've written.
I hope that you enjoy being part of CiC and that involvement in the forum does contribute to your ongoing learning and development. I look forward to seeing some of your work on here and thank you for posting up the links to your websites in your other post.
Hi from Toronto Canada!
I am looking for an environment that helps me learn about photography. I have had a photo business that was profitable and had a diverse customer base. I am interested in producing better images out of the camera, and simplifying my life. My style is that of a photojournalist.
Currently using a d300s and lenses, an Olympus M5 and a travel zoom camera. One or the other is always with me.

Hi, my name is Alan and I live in beautiful Southwest Florida. Photography has always fascinated me but in my younger days the cost of film developing kept my photo taking to a minimum. As I got older, raising a family and running a business took more of my free time than I would have ever imagined. I still took photographs, but they were of the kids, relatives, and vacations taken with point and shoot digital cameras, the first of which was a Sony Mavica that I still have. But you couldn't trade me a billion dollars for any of those terrible photos.
Now that I am older and the kids have moved out and have their own kids, I decided to re-explore photography. I now own a Nikon D-5100 that I am very pleased with. I take pictures of everything, including my wife who tries her best to hide from the camera lens. She acts like I am pointing a gun at her.
I don't have any particular genre of photography that I am good at or enjoy. I am equally bad with all my photos. If I see something interesting to me, I photograph it, be it a person, place, or a rust spot on a pipe. The best part is it doesn't cost anything to develop digital images and it's fun!
I stumbled across this site and while reading some of the forum posts, everyone seemed very helpful to each other. Thats why I decided to join. Although I am not new to photography, I am far from being an expert and I will always benefit from my piers point of view. I look forward to taking something away from every post I read and reaching a point where I can also give back.
Hello I have been interested in photography since I was 11, 42 now but never really had the time, money and imagination to take my hobby further. Eventually got around to getting DSLR, probably one of the last Canon 450ds to be sold, a couple of years ago and I'm still getting grips with it. Moved away from bird photography as results were frustrating and would like to get more into landscapes as they tend not to move so fast. Am currently posting straight out of box in JPEG as not yet brave enough to deal with RAW.
Any comments on todays snap would be gratefully received.

Hello all. My name is Nathan, and I am a new member here. Very nice looking site, and I am sure that I will love it here. I hail from Amherst, NY, and photography is an extreme passion of mine.
Hello from down under, I am a fussy old codger and have tried a few photo sites, most of them are too big and impersonal, this one was recommended by a friend so here I am, giving it a go. I have had many years experience with Minolta fllm cameras and now use a Panasonic FZ50, a TZ10, and an S1, I tried Fujis and Canon but for easy operation nothing ive used beat's a Panna, I will be posting some pic's in a day or two, must explore this site first.
Hi Nathan,
welcome to CiC.
I'm glad you like the site; the Owner & Mods put in a lot of effort to make sure things run smoothly, for the benifit of us all.
What sort of photography are you into? What editing software are you using?
I look forward to seeing your pictures and talking to you further.
Regards
John
Hi Alan,
firstly welcome to CiC.
I think this comment says it all "If I see something interesting to me, I photograph it, be it a person, place, or a rust spot on a pipe. The best part is it doesn't cost anything to develop digital images and it's fun!" That, in my opinion is the main thing with photography it's fun.
Your wife is no different from most on this site, 'hiding from the camera' how do they expect us budding photograhers to learn our trade when our models keep hiding.
I'm glad you stumbled on this site and hope you enjoy being an active member.
As with all new members I look forward to seeing you work.
Kind regards
John
Hi,
Welcome to CiC, it's great to have you on board.
I too shoot with a 450D and am more than happy with the resuts it gives; the only thing letting it down is me.
Hopefully this site we be a great learning resource for you and shooting in Raw a normal thing to do. It's well worth taking the time to get to grips with Raw.
Birds; this site helped me in shooting birds, lots of tips and advice. You may well return to shooting them with the help of the guys & girls on this site.
This bit I pinched from Donald; one of our Mods, as he's on holiday at the moment.
