Hello to everyone,

I make studio jewelry and often incorporate vitreous enamels in my work. I want to become better at taking my own photos of my work. Though I have had some photography classes with slr cameras (many years ago) and still have a vintage Minolta and lenses, I now have a Sony NEX 5N with just the 18-55 kit lens. This site was highly recommended by dpreview.com where I was researching macro lenses for the Sony.

I hope I will be able to replace all of my boring product images with new beautiful ones by learning from all of you more advanced photographers

Hello to everyone @ Cambridge in Colour, I'm Fred and I use a Nikon D700 with a 28-70mm f2.8 lens. I've also got one of the first D2x bodies and use a 17-55mm f2.8 DX lens with it. I'm not a pro wizard but more than a point and shoot person.
I'm happy to take portraits of family and friends in my little moble studio lit by 2 bowens lights. I have a question about DOF that I will post later.

my name is Jörg Hövel (sorry, german spelling) and I'm from Germany. I took my first photo around 46 years ago with a (stupid) Kodac Instamatic 64. My major focus is travel and animal photography. A friend of mine sent me the link to your web side and I'm impressed. I hope to chat with nice people and share some expirience and pictures.

Hello. My name is Ruby. I've been taking pictures for about 50 years, but still have a lot to learn. My main problem right now is the switch to digital. I can only afford the small point-and-shoot cameras. When I want to take a serious picture, I use my old film based Nikon or fully manual Canon (which I love). I do teach people to use their little point-and-shoots more effectively, eg: USE YOUR FLASH in bright sunlight; DON'T USE FLASH to shoot the kids Christmas play, switch to a higher ISO setting - simple stuff like that. Love photography, use photographs to supplement my writing.

Hello everyone my name is Greg. I'm very new to photography and got started with the Sony Rx 100. I love it. And take it everywhere with me. I love walking and cycling and its lightness suits me well. I'm now interested in a Camera with a greater focal length to take wild life and scenery I see on the way, but don't fancy a lot of lenses. Hi there My name is Edye I am from Australia and I have been a keen 'snapshot' photographer (using camera auto functions) with my Pentax K10D DSLR and previously Pentax film SLR camera for many years ..however I want to learn manual techniques ..depth of field.. macro.. focus ... lighting techniques etc and about Raw photography .. was checking out macro options to enable my camera to do clearer closeups and so thereby found this site on a google search .. love the tutorials just have to get my head around the technicalities of them and practice .. thanks for a great site

I'm glad you found this site and decided to join. The tutorials are very good and the members very skilled and willing to help you progress. The best way to benifit from this site is to get involved and post some of your pictures. Say why you like or dislike any of them and what you were trying to acheive and the 'troops' will try and help.

I've just put a macro lens on my xmas wish list. I've already been looking at the tutorials. is there a limit to the size of photo's we can upload?

Hi Tom,
I normally post at about 1200 x 800 for landscape pictures @ 72dpi; this gives a file size of around 1mb. This, for me seems an acceptable size to allow the members the opportunity to give my pictures C&C.

I too have a Christmas wish list, I want some 'L' lens but don't hold out too much hope.

Nice camera you have there, you will enjoy learning with that I'm sure.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope santa brings the Macro len.
