Hi Jeff,
A big welcome to CiC from me. :)
You say you bought a Sony camera for Christmas; did Santa not bring you it.:D
What model did you get?
I think you are right all tutorials can feel overwhelming at times and this is where the forum come into play; anything that is not clear can be explained by the members and hopefully clear any problem areas up.
I look forward to seeing your first (picture) post.

Hi everyone at Cambridge in colour. I'm Mat.
umm. . . Landscapes, nature and macro are what get me most fired up but to be honest I have been taking photos of everything for 30 years or so !
Loving the site and reading and re-reading the tutorials. "never stop learning"
This is the kind of stuff I take;

Hi Mat and a warm welcome to CiC.
It sounds like you have a wide range of interests, so I know there'll be lots here to engage you. As you'll probably have realised it's also a very friendly and constructive place, and as you say to never stop learning.
I confess I had to check where French Catalonia is - is French mostly spoken there, or is it Catalan. Either way I look forward to seeing some images.
Your post ends a bit abruptly - were you trying to post an image in there?
Dave

Hi Praphul, and a warm welcome to Cambridge in Colour.
It's good that you have found the tutorials so helpful already, they really are some of the best (some say the very best) on the net. It's also an excellent place to get constructive feedback on your work (and of course to offer feedback to others, should you wish).
I visited Kerala some years ago. I think it is beautiful part of India, and so full of contrasts. There must be so many opportunities for great image making, and I am looking forward to seeing some.
All the best,
Dave

Hi Natasha,
Welcome to CiC, it's great to have you with us. :)
The good thing with this site is that it caters for members of all levels; from beginner to professional. It makes no difference if you have a P&S / Bridge or DSLR camera, all are welcome and hopefully between the tutorials and the forum your photography will improve, over time.
My advice would be to keep practicing and posting your pictures here on the forum; but the main thing is enjoy being a member.
John

Hello, my name is Ashtyn. In the past few years I've been a residential assistant for the mentally ill, a "contract inspector" and a firefighter for the Forest Service. I have been doing photography as a serious hobby for the past five years, and am beginning to get into it professionally. I have not had a lot of people around me to critique my work, and I believe that in order to progress as quickly as possible, I definitely need more feedback, and look forward to participating in the community here, helping others where I can as well. Talk to you later!

Welcome to CiC Ashtyn,
I admire you not only for the jobs you do but being brave enough to slowly take your hobby forward and becoming a professional photographer.
This site and it's members certainly have the potential to help you move forward qucikly. Don't forget to view the tutorial area, well worth a look IMO.
I look forward to your first picture posts and to talking to you further over the coming weeks.
Regards
John

Hi, My name is Dave from the Wairarapa in New Zealand. I bought my first DSLR seven years ago with the intention of seriously pursuing photography as a hobby. Then life got in the way. As a result I took my "new" Nikon D70S out of it's box for the first time last year. Now there's no turning back and I'm seriously hooked. I love the right brain creative side of composition and editing and the left brain technical aspects of managing the camera system and photo-processing. It still makes my head hurt but now only in a good way! I've read that for a new photographer the first 15,000 images will be your worst - in which case I'm 2/3 of the way toward taking the worst photo's in my life. The % of "keepers" is increasing though and I'm looking forward to picking the brains in the forum, learning and seeking inspiration with you all, especially in relation to landscape and architecture photography, HDR, Lenses, processing, composition, editing - you know... just a few things :)

Hi Dave,
You have certainly come to the right place. This site has all the knowledge in one place, the tutorials are very good and cover most things. For other, more specialised questions the forums can normally answer any questions you might have.
I look forward to seeing your pictures and talking to you further over the coming weeks.
Welcome to CiC, I hope you enjoy being a member.
Kind regards
John

Hello, I am new to the forum. Does anyone use a Panasonic Lumix FZ 200? If so, what are your impressions of this camera? Thanks.

Hi,
Welcome to CiC.
There may well be some of our members that use the Panasonic Lumix FZ 200. So that more people see this post and hopefully respond to you, I would recommend you post your question in the 'Digital cameras & Equipment' area of the site.
Do you own this camera or are you trying to obtain some positive feedback before buying?
I hope you get the answers you are looking for and enjoy being a member.
Kind regards
John.
PS. Don't forget you can; if you wish, edit your profile to include your real name and a rough location. That way it will show on your future posts as mine does. Most of us use first names here.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello everyone,
My name is Janice, and I'm in Toronto. My first camera was a Kodak Disc, and I've been hooked ever since. I moved to digital when Canon came out with the Elph, at a whopping 2mp... Hard to believe after all the money I spent on that camera, the one on my phone now is so much better.
I moved to DSLR a few years ago with the Canon Rebel XSi. Sadly it's spent most of it's life on automatic. I have made it my new years resolution to learn my camera better. I've signed up for some lessons, and doing lots of on line research - which brought me here!
I'm looking forward to learning from all of you!

Hi Janice,
a big welcome to CiC from me, it's great to have you with us.:)
I believe we have the same camera the Canon Rebel XSi which is the same as the Canon 450D here in the UK.
I love it, it does exactly what I want as I continue to learn.
You won't go far wrong here at CiC, the tutorials are very good and the members will support you, answering any questions you might have.
Don't forget you can edit your profile to add you first name if you wish; the same as I have done. If you decide to do this your name will show on all of your future posts. Most of us use first names here, it just seems a little friendlier.
I look forward to seeing you first picture posts and hope you enjoy being a member.
Kind regards
John

Hi everyone,
My name is Michelle. I have recently purchased a Canon EOS600D. I am very new to photography and have taken it up as a distraction from being terminal with cancer. I have 2 lenses. A 70-300 and a 15-85. At the moment I am mainly focused on just taking a good photograph of anything. I have recently started editing my photos but still don't know what a good photograph needs to look like. I am hoping that I am going to learn a lot by being a member of your community.
