Hi Mal,
Welcome to you too.
The 18-200mm zoom range seems to be very popular these days!
I have something similar myself.
As for Stan, don't hesitate to post pics, or ask questions.
Bit of an audiophile are we, with a username like that?

Hi, I'm a new member. I'm a keen but limited snapper using a Canon 400d (and LG camera phone!). I like outdoor shots, dislike taking people and have just been getting into hdr with some success and some failures. I've just ordered a set of extension tubes so that I can have a bit of fun with macro work - though don't know how I'm going to get on with no electronic assistance in metering. Any tips? John
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Michael,
I'm considering a purchase like that myself, so let me know how you get on.

'Suck it and see' I think, by which I mean, try a shot, review hitogram and adjust the second shot accordingly.
Do post some pics here, macro or work so far.

"What Dave said" :)
Seriously, I think that the take a shot - review - reload - reshoot "technique" is often just as valid an approach as more "formal" calculations. Same goes for processing - often I'll hear "I don't know what to do with the sliders" - easy - move them in the direction that makes the image look better - that's all there is to it really.
PS: Big welcome from me too - great to have you with us!
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi everybody!
This is Joy from India. I'm 29 y/o & a Masters degree (Econ.) student.
I'm too much amateur photographer & have started my journey with a NIKON Coolpix P90.
I was searching the net for getting some info on shutter speed, aperture, ISO etc. & ur web site helped me a lot. So I've registered here.
many many thanks for the help which (still) I've got from ur website.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Joy,
Glad you've found the site useful, both the tutorials and the forums (here) are excellent places to learn from.
If you have any questions, and I do mean ANY, don't be shy, just ask.
If you have some pictures that didn't quite come out as well as you'd hoped, post some for comment and critique here and we'll do our best to put you on the right track.
I think that covers everything, so it only remains for me to sign off in the usual manner;
Welcome to the CiC forums from ...

thanks Dave, thank u very much.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hello all.I am looking forward to using this forum as a source of information to reinforce my knowledge and offer some thoughts as well. I have not made the jump to digital yet,but hope to sometime in the next year. Untill then I make do w/ a canon eos 3 w/ pb-e2 booster 28-135 3.5-5.6 is,100-300 4.5-5.6 ,Manfrotto tripod etc. Very modest by most standards I know ,but having a simple kit makes you work a little harder to get the shot.Hope to converse with all members at some time.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Canonman,
Welcome to the CiC forums, great to have you join us.
This is a good place to learn photography and especially digital and all that entails.
Are you a transparency (slide), or print, 'person' by default?
I believe a large proportion of the (cough) older members started in film and some still use it alongside digital, so you're not alone. :)
Also, my usual plea, can we have a first name to call you by?
Regards,
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Dave my name is Ed. I am a print person at this time. Usually Fuji 400-800 because of slow glass ,hope to rectify that soon also (so many goals.....so little funds) I will enjoy getting the European perspective on photography from this forum -it appears many of the members are from across the pond.
Thanks for the welcome,Dave hope to converse often ED
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Ed,
Thanks for the reply, I too look forward to the next chance to converse.
Cheers,

I live in Melbourne, Australia and only recently found this site on the web. I have read the tutorials from back to front and love the information provided. I have taken photos all my life but only seriously got interested in how the camera works and understanding light, composition, etc over the last 8 years. I switched to digital around 2 years and still crave information on this medium. I look forward to reading and discussing issues with you all.

Hi Peter,
Welcome to CiC - great to have you with us. If we can help with anything, just ask :)
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Thanks Colin,
At least we are roughly in the same time zone. Are there many other members down this way? Also what does the member classification mean i.e. new member, senior member (moderator, administrator), etc?
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi
My name is Rob. I live in West Wales, but I lived for 10 years in Cambridge, which I miss.
I'm early retired, and divide my time between photography, mountain-biking, and trying not to annoy my wife. As the first two are expensive I don't normally succeed with the third.
I use a Canon 5D and a Canon 50D.
This seems to be a very good site.
Regards Rob
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
HI Rob,
Just joined myself today. The site content is great. I am looking to replacing finance with photography as my main interest as I move into retirement. I look forward to hearing from you from time to time.
Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
To be honest, we have people from all over the globe here, including quite a few from New Zealand and Australia.
Most of the member classifications are based on the number of posts (New Member - Member - Senior Member etc). Moderators (Dave Humphries) have extra powers to edit posts - delete stuff - move posts and threads around etc. Administrators (Site owner Sean "McQ", and myself) can also make changes to usernames / ban people (spammers) and other site administration type things (ie make a mess of things if I click in the wrong place when 1/2 asleep!).
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Peter,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me.
Further to what Colin said on the membership classifications, at the other end of the scale, you step up the ladder at given numbers of posts; e.g. from memory, at 5 or 10 you become Member, and at say, a 100, you become a Senior Member.
Anyways, I look forward to seeing some pics and/or questions from you in due course.
Not sure what area of finance you were in, but I assume it's nice to be able to invest in gear without having to write an IP (investment proposal) :)
Once again, welcome from ...

This seems to be a very good site.
Hi Rob,
LOL I'm sure you get more wear and tear/use out of a bike/camera/lens than SWMBO does from a dress, just try to ensure she doesn't develop an interest in fencing, shooting, etc. :) or "annoyed" might rise to a new level ;):D

Yes, I'd agree, this site is good, so good I became 'part of the furniture', so to speak.
The old axiom 'the more you contribute, the more you get out' is never truer, I learn so much here.
Look forward to seeing some shots and questions, etc.
So, welcome to the CiC forums from ...
