I work 2nd shift so I'm unable to take any Photography classes. I would do it on line but, there's nothing like "hands on" training. So as a result I'm teaching myself. I have some questions which ill address in another topic. So, hopefully ill get to meet some of you as a I learn my Canon T3i 600d. Here's 1 photo I took yesterday. I do use Lightroom 4. I need all the help I can get.
    Hi there 'Slabstick',
    Welcome to CiC.
I agree moving up tp a DSLR can be a big learning curve, but with the tutorials here at CiC you should have no major problems. If the tutorials do not answer your questions then please post anything you want to know directly into the forum, questions are normally answered very quickly.
I look forward to seeing your first picture post and talking to you further over the coming weeks.
Don't forget you can edit your profile so that it includes your real name and a rough location. Most of us use real names here, just makes things a little friendlier.
Nice to have you on board.

Hi there, and a warm welcome to CiC, from another 600d and Lightroom 4 user. I think you are absolutely right - the way to learn is to get out and shoot. If you do want kind and constructive feedback on your photographs, this is a great place to get it. Don't miss the tutorials, either.

You might want to update your profile with your "real" name and whereabouts you are in the world - that way they will appear with all your posts.

I can't see the photo that you posted. If you are having difficulty, have a look at the "how to post photos" thread in the Community Lounge forum.

    Cheers,

    Dave

    Hi there AnneJ,
Welcome to CiC, it's great to have you on board.

A newbie, well you have certainly come to the right place. When you have time check out the tutorials they are some of the best on the Web. Any questions not answered there can be posted on the forum, where answers normally come very quickly.
Ask questions; keep asking until you are happy with the answers and understand, that's why we are all here to learn.
I look forward to seeing your pictures and talking to you further.
You might want to update your profile with your "real" name and whereabouts you are in the world - that way they will appear with all your posts.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi
I'm not only new to this forum, I'm fairly new to any social network site and I think I have come to the wrong place to introduce myself!!!! Never mind, I'm sure that someone will point me in the right direction eventually! I've tried clicking several times on the 'NEW MEMBER' please introduce yourself here' and I don't seem to know where to type!!!!
I've just purchased a Nikon D7000 after spending several happy years with a Canon 350D. I know; why have you changed allegiance? I have read reviews, studied, researched, talked to people, etc, etc and concluded that I should go out of my way and learn again with a different mindset and a different camera. The D7000 is AMAZING!!!! It has rekindled my interest in photography but I must admit that it is a steep learning curve!!! I didn't have a collection of Canon lenses so I didn't need to remain loyal. Nothing wrong with Canon; I was brought up with them starting with the Canon AE1 Programme. I have the D7000 with Nikkor 18-105 VR + Sigma 70-300 with macro facility. Bought the package at Currys for an incredible £734.98!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would never usually purchase cameras from Currys but I think they got this deal wrong!! Can't find anything to compare with the price on the internet, even grey imports!! A real snip!! I'm discovering that I'm in a new world of photography and will need lots of support before I begin to understand some of the more technical stuff. I very nearly settled for the D5100 after reading on Ken Rockwells site about the amazing deals on this camera owing to the fact that Nikon have replaced it with the 5200. It has more Megapixels but not a great deal more and is nearly twice the price!! But when I enquired about the D7000 in Currys about 'packages', I could not believe my ears so I snapped up the chance. I thought I needed a treat as I'm planning a safari to Masai Mara in August when the migration of the wilderbeest should be in full flow. CAN'T WAIT to get my D7000 clicking away!!
Any beginners tips on the D7000 greatly appreciated!!

    Hi Willderbeest,
Welcome to CiC. Yes I can confirm you have posted in the right place to introduce yourself, so that's one thing ticked off.
Don't forget you can edit your profile to include you real name and a rough location if you wish. Most of us use real names here, it just makes things a little friendlier.

I'm a Canon man myself, but like you see no issue in using either manufacturer, they are both very good.
I can only guess the difference you are finding between the EOS 350D and the D7000; good fun learning though.
This site is a great place to learn, it has some great tutorials and if you find there are any questions the tutorials do not answer, then please post them on the forum; they are normally answered very quickly.
I look forward to seeing your pictures and talking to you further.
    Regards
    John

    Hi John
Thanks for the welcome. It's a fabulous site and I'm really looking forward to learning again. It was not until I started reading the D7000 user manual that I realised what ISO was!!!! In all the years of using my 350D I had left the ISO at 100!! I've got a lot of catching up to do!!!!

    Hi John,
Welcome to CiC, thank you for joining.

You say you are thinking of buying a NIKON D3200, may I ask what camera you have now? I only ask because its not always necessary to upgrade your camera to start with. You may well be able to continue with your current camera, allowing you time to consider the pro's & con's of a number of cameras before buying; just a thought.
Thank you for filling in your profile fully, as you can see most of us use first names so it nice to see you have done this already.
Enjoy being a member and don't forget to have a look at the tutorials and post some of your pictures into the forum.
    Kind regards
    John

Hello. My name is Kirk and I started taking photographs about 40 years ago with an Argus C3. Since then I have had a number of cameras, then lost interest for a while in photography. About 5 years ago I started taking photos again with a point and shoot and have just gotten a Nikon P7700, which will allow me to learn more about the digital side of the art. I am looking forward to learning from everyone on this site and hope to be able to contribute something useful one of these days.

    Hi Kirk,
Welcome to CiC, it's great to have you on board.
Well it sound like you have a lot of experience to share and I'm sure you will have things to contribute as time goes on.
The tutorials here are very good and well worth a look, if you haven't already. Any questions you have that are not answered there can be posted on the forum, the other members normally respond very quickly.
I hope you enjoy your new camera and I look forward to seeing your pictures and talking to you further.
Don't forget you can edit your profile; if you wish to include your real name and a rough location, that way it will appear on all your future posts; just as I have done. Using first names just makes things feel a little friendlier.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello All:

My name is Tom and I am fairly new to photography (less than 1 year). I shoot a Canon EOS D5 Mark II with a couple of different lenses. Having retired recently, I have taken up photography as an intense interest, specifically wildlife photography, and am working at improving my skills. It is my goal to be able to publish some of my wildlife photos in the future. I spent more than five weeks in Yellowstone National Park last summer and returned with more than 500 photos of wildlife. Most of my photographic experience is "self taught" and I look forward to sharing ideas and learning from others. I presently, am learning to use photo editing software to assist me in correcting mistakes that I hope my membership here will prevent in the future. I discovered CIC by accident and am an avid user of the tutorials. I have learned a great deal and highly recommend CIC as a great resource. I look forward to learning from this forum.

    Tom
