Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello one and all, very excited to learn from the community resource of this site.
I am based in Toronto, Canada and have recently returned to teaching - Digital Photography, thankfully at the Intro level.
Though I have been using my own gear effectively and successfully for documenting/representing many subjects, teaching it is going to be a nice learning curve to relay what I already know, discover new questions about it (so many brand differences), and find out better ways of imparting my new and existing knowledge.
If I pick your collective mind, I hope to make my questions both clear and respectful; I certainly feel that 'beginner's mind' readiness to understand things I might take for granted or about which I may even be mistaken. I shoot with a Nikon D5000 or a Canon 3Ti, depending on the need. Some of my first questions will be about the ways you view importance of RAW v. JPEG files for DSLR users learning to both shoot and process their images (photoshop CS6). I have already found some very good information, but my students have ways of refining their questions daily.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Everyone,
Today I take delivery of my first 'proper' camera! I’ll be spending this evening working out what all the confusing buttons do!
I recently decided that I need a new hobby and photography seemed like a good idea. I liked the thought of going on long walks trying to find nice scenes to take pictures of.
I have pretty much no experience of photography, so I’ll be working my way through the tutorials here and asking some silly questions on the forums! I’ll try to post photos regularly to the relevant topics, for feedback and for historical reference to see how I’m improving!
Ben

I hope that being part of CiC contributes to you being able to stay one step ahead of the students. Thank you for joining the forum and I hope you enjoy being involved.
By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

Congratulations, Ben. What is it?
You're starting with the right approach. Get to know your camera inside-out. Your aim should be to get to the stage where you can operate without having to look at where the buttons are. And that just takes practice, practice and more practice. The better you know your camera, the less time you have to think about what buttons you have to press once your own location. You can then concentrate on looking and seeing.

That's fine. That's what CiC is about.

Hi im Adam from Melbourne Australia< the missus brought a canon1000d about 4 years ago and I read the instruction manual and since the iv been hooked on taking pictures, ive since moved to a 550d and enjoy macro, wide angle and also have the standard 50mm lens (which I think is great for what it costs). I like lanscapes and am looking to improve to make a career out of photography. Just randomly came across this website searching for ideas. Looking forward to some constructive criticism.:):)

Thanks for the warm welcome.
It's a Nikon D5100 - It was at an attractive price on Amazon. I know I made the mistake of not going into a shop for a touch and feel of several models, but having had a play with it last night I do feel pleased with the purchase.

Adam - I'm very glad you did and I hope you enjoy what you've found.
Hopefully you'll have got a feel for what CiC is all about. The idea is about being a useful learning resource in which the comments are constructive and helpful and where people who might want to show how clever they are at the expense of others are left in no doubt that this is not the sort of culture that we wish to foster on here.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

I'll let you into a secret, but don't tell anyone else - Neither did I. I knew I wanted my dear old Canon 40D and just went for it, never having handled it previously.

Hello Dhiman and welcome to CiC. Thank you for joining.
You have some very impressive images on your Flickr pages. I must say that 'Like a Swan (B & W)' is a picture that is full of atmosphere and tells us so much about the young lady's life and her situation. I like it very much. You pictures in the Himalayas are also very good, I think.
I hope you enjoy being part of this forum and that you find it useful for your ongoing learning.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello to all members!
I wish to introduce myself as Jeff from the small island of Malta. Although I consider myself completely new in photography, I've been taking photos since I was a kid because I always loved photos. Now, I decide to make the step forward by buying my first SLR........the Canon EOS 650D with an 18-55mm and 75-300mm Canon lenses as a starter kit.
My aim here apart from friendship is to learn as much as I can from this community.
Jeff.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi my name is Colin and I have just registered with CiC after searching for a website that offered tips and tutorials to someone relatively new to photography. There have always been cameras in the house as my wife is a keen amateur photographer but I haven't personally taking too keen an interest until taking photos on our recent trip to Malaysia. I have just purchased a Canon SX50 ultra zoom bridge camera as I wanted a camera that suits differant photo opportunities without having to carry lots of gear.

Colin - I certainly hope that CiC continues to 'fit-the-bill' for you so far as being a useful learning resource is concerned.
Great to have you here and I hope that as well as posting up lots of questions, you'll post up images in the competitions and/or for comment and criticism. It's one of the best ways of learning. To get the most out of seeking comment, have a read of - How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images.
