Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I'm retired military living here in Germany. There are many photo opportunities here in Europe. I hope to learn a lot from this forum. I am a novelist when it comes to photography, I have a Canon 7D with a Speedlite 600EX-RT, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, Extender EF 1.4X III, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, and an EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM. So I thing I have some pretty good stuff, just got to learn how to use it! lol
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all my name's Paul and I found this site looking for some tutorials on improving my technique. I've been taking pictures for a long time have only recently began really learning photography. I got hooked hard when a coworker offered to sell me a gently loved Nikon D40 for a low, low price. After a year or so with the D40 I stepped up to the Nikon D5000 I have now which I have accrued a small assortment of glass for: the 18-55mm "kit" lens, an 18-105mm (my new walking around lens (that I'm loving!)), a 55-200mm and a 35mm f1.8 prime. I'm taking my first digital photo class at the local college and loving it, though it's harder than I thought it was going to be... I've already figured out that taking pictures is one thing, photography is another. One is easy, the other is a lot of work.
Let's see... Other interests include, but are not limited to, hiking the great outdoors, Geocaching (a sort of high-tech version of "treasure hunting" that I often do while hiking) and competitive pistol shooting; I promise though, I'm not one of those frothing at the mouth "gun nuts" you hear about living in a Una-Bomber style shack in the outback; I consider myself a student of the gentlemanly and refined art of Marksmanship. :)
Coming here in hopes of learning to improve my photographic technique and maybe get some help using PhotoShop CS6.
Guess that about covers it...

My name is Chris. This past weekend I purchased a Nikon D5200. Found this website when google searching tutorials/explanations. Seems to be a pretty friendly community more oriented towards being a community than a my camera is better than yours type of place.
Plans for the camera, Motorsports, and exploration of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania which i have just recently moved to.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I call myself TommyGuido here and I am an alcoholic. oops, sorry wrong site.
Just kidding, I am geographically challenged to be an alcoholic currently living in Kuwait (at the moment).
Anyway, I found this site while looking for some tutorial information for some basic color adjustments of my dive pictures and found this to be an interesting site. I am fairly novice when it comes to digital photography and really lost in the digital darkroom. Right now, I am just using the Preview app on my Mac and trying to get the hang of tweaking my pictures.
I am only using point and shoots for the time being. Up until about a year ago I was using a Nikon P3, and more recently moved to a Canon S100 at the high recommendations of my dive photo tutor Fabrice. My last dive trip to Thailand, about halfway through, I got hit with the Canon S100 lens error that everyone in the world seemed to know about except for me.
Here is one shot with my older Nikon P3 to show what I am trying to consistently achieve with my dive photos.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello, What a wonderful site with great tutorials and helpful advice from so many experienced photographers.
Looking forward to joining in.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Another rush of people joining CiC since I was last here 36 hours ago.
Great to have you all here and I hope you enjoy being involved.
One thing - For those of you who haven't done so .............. So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hopefully CiC can contribute to that Dean. All you have to do is ask the questions.

That, I think, is the evidence that you will learn and will be a photographer. If you didn't 'get it', then you would never push yourself to learn. So, Paul, welcome along on the journey!

Congratulations Chris. I'm glad that impression about CiC came across to you. That's exactly what we want it to remain.

Maybe, but that's a pretty impressive first image to put up on the forum. I look forward to seeing what you produce once you feel you've moved on from novice status!

And I hope, Will, that being part of CiC helps to keep that enthusiasm alive and growing.

Like many of us, your work demands have had to be given priority for a while. But I hope you are now able to get the time to enjoy your photography and to enhance your photographic knowledge and skills.

I hope you will Caroline. Lots of people on here are very willing to share their knowledge and experience in order to help colleagues learn. It's all about sharing on here.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I read several threads before joining. After telling my husband how much great information I was finding, he encouraged me to join and not be shy about sharing my photos. I want to improve my skills, so I am going to work on that.
My favorite subjects are people. I am the one known to always have a camera with me at any event. It brings me a lot of joy to be told that I caught a moment that had great meaning for someone. Portraits are something I have done for years for friends and family who couldn't afford a "real" photographer. I am always striving to improve. Believe me, I see my faults, but do not always know how to fix them.
I am very fortunate to live where I do. With equal amounts of time, I can be in the mountains or on the coast. Yosemite National Park is a day trip my husband and I make several times a year.

Absolutely. One of the good ways to learn is to submit your pictures to constructive comment and criticism. A good thing about CiC is that we, with only one or two rare exceptions avoid those sort of comments that people say appear on other forums where criticism can be very harsh and brutal (some people seem to forget that they were once learners). People are on CiC because they want to be part of something that is about helping each other learn. It's about supporting each other to be as good as we can be.
So, please do pitch right in.
You mentioned portraiture. Obviously I don't yet know how you rate your knowledge and skills, but you may wish to have a look at a series of lessons that our forum administrator, Colin, posted up on here. Click here for the link to them.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone,
I'm Dave and have just found this site. I have been taking photos since I was a teenager, over 50 years ago. I moved over to digital about ten years ago, and have had a succession of digital cameras. I now use a Nikon D300s, which I think is a great piece of equipment.
I now shoot mostly in Raw, and then use Lightroom 4, and CS6 to process my images.
My main interests are wildlife.

Hello Dave and welcome on board. Very glad that you found us. I hope you continue to enjoy being part of the forum and that as well as learning from others on here, your experience will be shared so that people can learn from you.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Thanks so much Donald. Yes, so much to learn, it can be overwhelming at times, though you all seem to be so talented in what you do, I look forward to the education along the way and maybe put a photo up. I've a Nikon D70s and a F80 (film, which just seems to sit there these days), with a few lenses and a SB800 flash. It may seem like an old dinosaur to some, though to me, it's wonderful.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello to all! My name is Erick, i have been into photography for many years and am mostly into Wildlife photography. I am currently kicking around the idea of a Bird book for the state i live in! I am in no way a pro and am always learning from others. I look foward to seeing your photos and getting your feedback on my photos!! Thank you!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Erick and welcome, I hope you enjoy your time here.
It's great to have another wildlife fan here (it's my particular passion, too), and I see you have already taken the plunge by entering a mini comp.
If you are looking for direct feedback on your pictures, it's best to post them in one of the main forums, "Nature and Architecture" for wildlife.
Creating a bird book for Minnesota sounds like a formidable task!
You might want to add your name to your profile, so that it appears alongside all your posts,
Best regards,
Dave

Hello Everyone, my name is Stacie. I'd have to say I'm a "self taught" photographer. I started shooting my girls a few years ago, but within the last year or so have gotten into mostly children, seniors & families. I stumbled upon this site while looking some stuff up and thought I could learn alot from everyone here. Can't wait to see what I can learn!

I'm very glad you did, Stacie and I hope that being part of the CiC forum will help you with learning. The basic ethos of the forum is that we're all here to help each other and to share knowledge, skills and experience. There is no such thing as a dumb questions and we're fortunate that even the 'experts' don't forget that they were once learners as well.
By the way, you don't tell us where you are. If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

Rasha - I'm very glad you have such a helpful friend. I hope that your experience matches the recommendation and that you find being a member of CiC to be both helpful and well as enjoyable.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone. Just joined as am being driven spare by my colour profiles after using profile generated by my Eye One Match Pro, I can't see correct colours anywhere, not even online or in Photoshop! Worse still it make images on my website invisible to me, though when checking on my phone I do know they are still there as they should be. Have gone through every menu available in Windows, but just can't get it how it should be! Any ideas? xx
