Hi I'm Kenny. I've been trying to learn about photography for a few years now, I see so many of you who have been at it for decades. I have joined the community in order to speed up the learning process by getting feedback on what I consider are my more "hopeful" shots. I am only really coming to terms with correct composition and still very amateurish about depth of field shutter speeds etc. I hope to improve with your indulgence.

Very glad that you like what you've seen so far, Doug and I do hope that being a part of the forum adds to the experience. The forum is very much the opportunity for interactive learning. Plenty of people are always willing and able to share some pretty extensive knowledge. One of the great things about this forum is that it's not a home for those who just want you to know how much they know, but are not inclined to share that for the benefit of others.

I've had an interest in photography for years and enjoy taking photography of the sights and scenes around me.

Which is as good a reason as any other for being interested in photography.

I'm new here, and I'm really amazed by the quality of the information I found here ! I started reading almost everything in the tutorial section (which requires some time !), even if I already knew most of these concepts : but these are so well explained and illustrated ! Just what I needed : technical, without requiring an engineer diploma.

I'm from Switzerland and speak French (doing my best trying to write in correct English). I started photography 2 years ago (mostly portraits and landscapes, some wildlife), and really spend a lot of time learning about the craft. I use a D7000 (waiting to upgrade full-frame, so my lenses' ranges are sometime not so optimal), Tokina 12-24 f/4, Nikkor 50 f/2, Nikkor 35-70 f/2.8, Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8.

I'm really happy to join such a good community, and will suck knowledge out of you guys

Greetings! I'm so happy to have found this site. Wonderful information, and beautifully presented. Bonus!

I'm very new to photography. I've had my D5100 for almost a year now and have in my lens collection the 18-55 kit lens, a 55-200, and my new 35mm f/1.8. Now I need the knowledge to put them to their full use. I get the basic concepts, but need to learn how to take what I've learned from books and websites and actually apply it. I have Lightroom 4 and have done some very superficial editing with it, but would love to learn how to really use it to make my images shine.

I think you've done it the right way. You've done the reading. Now you can use this forum to help you think through what applying your learning is all about. Lots of people on here will always be very willing to offer help and advice. There's a lot of knowledge and experience on here and it's now available to you.

I'm Bob from London. I just bumped into this site whilst looking at Light metres so I had a look at the tutorials and though I'd join up. I've messed around with cameras for a few years now (Minolta 7000, Olympus OM10) but never really knuckled down to using them with serious intent, until going digital with a Pentax K10D. I've also now decided to teach myself the art of photography (i.e. the hard way!) so look forward to exchanging with you guys as well as leaning on your collective experience and wisdom.

Hi everyone. My name is Rosie and I'm from Newcastle upon Tyne. I have been taking photo's for about 2 years and doing some courses along the way to help me get started. I'm slowly developing an understanding of the camera settings and am gaining confidence to go out and experiment but still feel I have a lot to learn. I love the process and thought I may benefit from signing up to the site and getting involved in some of the forums and small competitions to help push myself and get some constructive feedback to help me grow. However, I'm not the best computer person and am a complete forum virgin so any advice and support people could provide would be greatly appreciated. I'll start having a look round the site and hopefully be inspired/build up the courage to post some of my own shots.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Rany Lutz and I just found this site a few days ago. I have been on many sites over the last 10 years and have found the quality range from good to horrible. So far this site looks to have one of the highest standards that I have found. I think one of the advantages here is that there is not an open image pool with all the gratuitous comments and mutual backslapping which precludes any constructive observations being posted. Then you have a competitive atmosphere that carries over into the forums. Also photogs with real knowledge tend to be attracted to sites that are kept on a tight rein by the administrator.
I am really enjoying it so far and have been using links to your tutorials on our Meetup site (Rogue Valley Photographers Club) in Medford, OR, USA.

Yes, this is a very supportive site, but with many excellent photographers who are always ready to share their expertise, and to comment constructively. Have a look at the excellent tutorials, too.

Can you tell us what kind of photography most interests you?

This is a site for learning, and it sounds as if you are going about that slowly and methodically, which is the right way (do take lots of photographs though, it's the only way to improve).

I was also a "forum virgin", a few months ago, and I can promise you that the folks here are kind and constructive - as well as there being some awesome photographers.

Have a look at the "stickies" at the top of the Community Lounge forum, for ideas on how to post images, and how to get C&C (comment and critique).

My name is Sheila, I just stumbled upon this site and I am very impressed and excited. I have taken photos for fun most of my life. In 2010 I purchased a Nikon D5000 and it opened up a whole new world for me. I just upgraded to a Nikon D5200 and the learning never stops. I live in Colorado and take mostly nature pics, however I do have 5 grandchildren under the age of 10. Digital photography has helped me capture many wonderful life moments.
