Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all. I'm John and I live in South Florida. I take mostly wildlife photos and prefer the smaller critters. i.e. bugs and bees and such. I also am a diver and do quite a bit on underwater photography. Also of small critters. Nudies, juvenile fish and such.
Just started in micro and am going through a pretty steep learning curve. Still can't get that bee to stop long enough to get a good portrait.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone
I live in New Zealand. I have often come to this site to look at the pics, read the tutorials & enjoy all of them. However, my own photo standard is not improving the way I would like. Some of mine are fine, but that is all, nothing special. I have been challenged to make a photo journal & have been casting around to understand what I would like mine to be. My idea had been to present it as a kind of diary. That became too heavy an idea involving too large a document. I now feel blocked. Any ideas are welcome. When I feel brave enough I will post pics though I know people here tend to be supportive.
Thanks
Paniaa

John - There have been some folks on here who've done underwater stuff and I'm always blown away with it. I think that's because I know it's a world that I'll never see for myself. So, I hope you will post up some of your underwater pictures, as well as others.
Great to have you here and thank you for joining.

Paniaa - I'm glad you feel that people on here do seem to be supportive. That is certainly the aim. So I hope it won't be too long before you feel able to post some pictures so that others can provide comments, ideas, suggestions that will help you improve and be as good as you want. It is a daunting thought to post up your first picture. It was on another forum (that's now gone). I remember I was terrified ........ and NOBODY commented. But I kept going.
So, welcome. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.
By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

Oh hi, jamaeolus here in the lovely (rainy sometimes) pacific NW of the US. I was trying to find info on sensor crop ratio's when I found your site. I was impressed after reading just 1 thread. The knowledge level was excellent. I am a new owner of a (used) Canon EOS 60 D which I purchased primarily because my wife wanted a telescope and I wanted to do some astrophotography (strictly amateur stuff) the 60D seemed to be the best trade off of price versus capability when factoring in the desire to have live view which I could port to a laptop. I have taken tons of photos, but mostly just capture the image type stuff. I had a Olympus OM system back in the day. When the new digital stuff started producing decent images I picked up a Kyocera S3x, which was nice for the price but I could see that technology advancements would continue and that to drop a couple of G's on a DLSR didn't make sense for the type of things I was doing. Travel photos, snapshots that type of thing. I figured I'd pick up a new camera every few years as technology progressed. Then I got a pentax optio which is like a little spy camera, fits in an altoids tin and takes better photos than anything so small and inexpensive has any right to, the Optio s5 (which I got a nice dive housing for, I still have and use when scuba diving in the tropics), then a pentax x90 with 12 megapixel and 26 power zoom and weighs a lot less than the 28-135 kit lens for my 60D. Now the EOS 60D!

Paniaa,
Remember you are your biggest critic. You never know what people will think until you post, that's how to get ideas and thoughts and might just break you out of the funk YOU think you're in. A new eye can see beauty and POV in something that you have deemed unworthy and could stir ideas and creativeness inside you you never had.
Don't be afraid to be adventurous and exposed, you often get the best results that way... In life and photography.

Hello and welcome to CiC.Thank you for joining and i hope you find that being part of the forum is both enjoyable as well as useful in terms of ongoing learning.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello Mike and a warm welcome. I was going to suggest that you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
You can, of course, still do that. just remember to change it in a couple of weeks from now!
Great to have you here.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi my name is John and I live in Shropshire in the the UK. I use a Nikon D7000 with a 18-200 lens and a 50mm f1.4. I am fairly new to photography. I have just bought some Rotolight’s RL48 LED lights and Lee filters and am looking to develop my skills with these lights and natural light studio based photography. I do not aim to limit myself by that statement I will photograph anything and everything – except weddings. Given the lightweight and cool running of the LED lights I think they have a great future, but bring with them a whole new arm to the science of colour as Lee have already found. Look forward to seeing what your member think of this way forward….

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
All,
I'm a 3D Rendering Artist for an architectural firm in Salt Lake City, Utah. My love of photography has grown alongside my passion for trying to replicate the real world in CG. For me, photography is also a means of rebelling against too much CG influence. I strive to create photographs which capture an unplanned moment. I'm not a staging and posing type of person. I love to make the most of available light and existing conditions. I shoot with a Nikon D90, kit lenses, and a 50mm f/1.8 lens.
I'm excited to be here. I have a lot to learn.
Regards,
Andrew

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Everyone, just embarking on a Photographic Discovery, this is more about how I improve rather than being something I could never aspire to be, basic Sony DSLR kit, some decent attempts so far. I am older than I think, slower than I feel but Im more than half of my 4 score years and 10 so Im doing good. Enjoy life and living, need more spare time, need more relaxation but in this hectic life I never seem to get the chance. Money would seriously change me but I dont think for the better. Probably love my animals more than some people I know, love my Grandchildren more than they will ever know
Lets see where this goes
Best Regards To Everyone

Hi John,
Welcome to CiC. I see you are already up and running with the thread around your LED lights, so maybe the welcome is a bit late! I hope you enjoy being a member here.
If you wish, it would be good to add your name and whereabouts you are in the world to your profile, like most of us do 'cos we are a friendly bunch.

Hi Drew, and welcome to our community. It must be an interesting experience, moving between the real world and the virtual one! I'm looking forward to seeing some of your unplanned images in the forums.
We all have a lot to learn :) and learning and sharing is what CiC is all about. Ask any questions you wish, and there's always someone with a response.
Dave

Hello Nasir, and a warm welcome to CiC. This is an excellent place to learn.
If you go to the People and Pets forum, there is a "sticky" at the top with Colin Southern's School of Portraiture. You could not do better than start there. Then, when you have specific questions, post them in the same forum and you can be sure that someone will be along to help.
You could also update your profile so that it shows your "real" name and where you are in the world, then it will appear alongside each one of your posts like you can see next to mine, here. I don't think we have many members from Pakistan!

Hi there Tommy (?) and welcome to CiC. I think that we are all about improving here, though some of us (including me!) have further to go than others. The pleasure is in the journey, with some successes along the way, because there is always more to learn.
I do hope that you can find time in your busy schedule for photography. Take care though, it can rather take over when you start seeing even grandchildren in terms of f-stops and ISO :)
Hope you enjoy your stay here. Could you update your profile with your "real" name (I mean how you want to be addressed), and whereabouts you are in the world. Then it appears alongside all of your posts - it's just nice to know.
