Tae Jun Ahn - I hope that being part of CiC will help you learn and be as good a photographer as you wish to be.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top rigth of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

What very nice and helpful friends you have, Clare! Great to have you here and may I extend a warm welcome.
I hope you do find that CiC is a helpful resource that helps you learn to get the best and most from your photography, including post processing knowledge and skills. Lots of people on here are always very willing to share their experience. The good thing about this forum, I think, is that everyone remembers that they were once learning the basic skills and that none of us ever stop learning.

My name is Marc Saito-Gause (better known as Kamerajin) and I'm a freelance photographer living in Tokyo, Japan. I have been taken photographs for the past 60 years and started when I received my first camera, a Kodak view finder (120-220mm) at the age of 10.
Over the years, I have been credited by the United States Department of Defense for shots taken during the Vietnam offensive in Southeast Asia. I have photographed a variety of subjects in Japan, Okinawa, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Kowloon, Korea, Guam, Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, California, Mexico, and the Bahamas. I won 1st place in several photo contests during these years and had photos printed in US Navy cruise books. I am currently working as a freelance photographer and own the "Za Rising Sun Studio" a small shop in Tokyo.
I studied Photography at the University of Hawaii, Los Angeles Community college (afloat program), San Diego Community college, and attended numerous photo seminars over the years.
Though I take pride in my work, I believe that a successful image is the culmination of experience, talent, dedication, and a whole lot of luck. I am not the best photographer in the world and never will be, but, I feel like I have the best possible opportunities in the world to produce the photos that I take! I specializes in capturing beautiful images of landscapes, seascapes, architecture structures, street scenes, night scenes, skate boarders, sports activities, and anything unusual or of interest. I occasionally work for law firms and insurance companies to document accidents and property damages, mostly to put food in my stomach. When I go on an assignment, my cameras of choice are Canon, Nikon and Sony for digital shots and Canon and Olympus for film. I feel very lucky to do what I do!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello all, its great to be here. I'm George and I have just taken photography up so I'm probably not good enough to even be considered amateur. I seen an amazing photo and asked for a camera for my birthday and my amazing wife got me one. I have a Nex 5n with 18-55m f3.5 kit lens, my wife also bought me about a dozen other lenses all from film cameras that require adapters, Minolta 50mm rokkor f2.8, Tamaron 70-200mm f4 and Bercoflex 500mm f8 probably the best.
I have taken about 3000 photos in the 3 months I've had the camera and they are all pretty rubbish, so will probably be asking for lots of help and advice.
Thanks

Hi, I am Tom, I have been a photographer since 1956, started in High School. Was working for a newspaper then worked at Clemson University in Clemson, SC. as a photographer, then joined the US Navy and retired in 1982 as a Chief Photographer (E7). While in the Navy attended many Navy Photography Schools in Pensacola, FL. Saw service aboard Aircraft Carriers, various ships and Subs.and flew as photographer aboard helos. While in the Navy I was selected to Syracuse University for their Navy program for photojournalism in 1972. After this I worked as Photo Editor for "Campus" a Navy publication in Pensacola. My last assignment was at the Atlantic Fleet Audio Visual Command, Combat Camera Unit, in Norfolk, VA. I retired in 1982 and now living in Concepcion, Chile. While in the Navy I used movie cameras, View Cameras, Speed Graphic( 4x5), Aerial cameras, Nikon, Canon and various Leica's and 2.25" cameras. I am now using a Konica Minolta 5D and a Minolta 7000 film camera with various lenses. I love shooting macro subjects. At one time I had my own photo lab but now only process my B&W film and use an Epson scanner. My flicker web site to view some of my photos is www. flicker.com/photos/TDMcManus29666.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Welcome, Tom. My wife and I both went to school at Clemson. But a bit after your time. We were there when you retired from the Navy. Will be interested to see some photos from your neck of the woods.

Tom - Unfortunately I'm not getting that page, even by adjusting for the gap between 'www.' and ''flicker' and changing 'flicker' to flickr'. Maybe you could check the URL.
Anyway, great to have you here. Thanks for joining. By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
And another ex-Navy man on here is Richard Crowe (rpcrowe) who is in San Diego. I hope you guys come into contact.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Welcome aboard Tom... I don't remember you but, we might have crossed paths somewhere in the Navy. I joined the Navy in 1957 and retired as a Master Chief Photographer's Mate in 1989. I spent a lot of my career in the Pacific Fleet Combat Camera Group and later in the Pacific Fleet Audio Visual Command (basically the same job with another name). I also spent time in reconnaissance squadrons (Photo Crusader and F-14 Tarps), USS Constellation as well as a few interludes of shore duty. I attended the Navy Cinematography Course at the University of Southern California in 1964/1965. I knew a lot of Syracuse Photojournalist Course Graduates...
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello All. I'm Neil from the North Olympic Peninsula, Washington State, USA. Not much for chit-chat as my 2 daughters can attest. Been retired for 20 years now. Small business in woodworking after retirement until my body gave out about 5 years ago. Main interest now is photography. Not into the DSLR realm. Have a Fujifilm HS10, and wanting a new HS50. I have a very thick skin, and when I post a photo for comment it's fair game for any constructive pot-shots. I'm really glad to be here, and hope to be able to contribute something as well as gaining knowledge in photography in general.
Cheers to all, Neil

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
G'day
What a great site. I've been taking photographs for over 50 years.Still use my dark room but not as frequently as I should.
I'v'e been using Nikon for almost ever. Apple computers and Adobe photoshop are my choice for processing.
Landscapes and photo journalism are my favourite subjects.
