Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi there!

Just stumbled across this forum when looking at the photography tutorials (some great info there...thanks!)

My name is Ben and I live just outside Cambridge near Saffron Walden. I bought a Nikon D50 about 2 years ago now... loved digital photography ever since! Only recently been taking the time to learn past the auto settings.

Now getting the bug for new lenses and thinking about upgrading to the D90.
Not updated my flickr account for a good year or so now, so going to have a bash at that this evening... http://www.flickr.com/photos/26914143@N08/

I enjoy wildlife photography (but currently limited to 200mm, thinking about going to 500).
Dont get on very well with landscape/architecture...so thinking about taking a few local outings to try and develop these areas...any tips on locations would be great.

Im sure I will be posting more in the near future (probably asking for help! so sorry in advance!)

Look forward to speaking with fellow photo-people soon!

    Ben.

    That's unlucky about the spots

I've never seen anything like that, not that I have specially looked, but I do a fair amount of PP at 100%.

    Hi Ben,

I'm familiar with the 200mm limit and I like wildlife shooting too, it makes you crop a lot! (or not bother)

    This hobby can get expensive!

Look forward to seeing some more pictures, happy shopping.

    Keep in touch,

Thank you, Dave Humphries. I use at the moment an ancient but working Olympus M1. Not digital which I hope to get soon!

    Re: Hello Everyone...

    Hi everyone,
It took a big leap for me to join in...I've mostly been only reading off of this website as I love imaging and photography. I don't do much, but I do enjoy it a wholesome lot. I do photography during my travels and when I go out on vacations. Been meaning to see a lot of places, but hardly finding the time for it. Anyway, I feel good to have joined the community at last.

A warm welcome is due from me then

Is that local (i.e. within India) travels, or have you managed to travel more widely?
If, having read things here, there is anything you don't quite understand, just ask (don't be shy - there's no such thing as a silly question), we're here to help.

Have you got any of your pictures on a web gallery anywhere?

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hello,
I am an amateur photographer who started taking pictures way back on a 35mm fixed lens (totally manual no frills) camera, followed by a Pentax K1000 SLR. After a few P&S cameras I recently bought a Nikon D5000. Having started with manual cameras, I know the basic idea behind shutter speeds, apertures film sensitivity, etc. One thing I hope with a DSLR is not worry about the cost of experimenting.
I read a few posts on this site and decided to join after seeing how civilized and professional the discussions are compared to other forums.
I look forward to improve my skills with help from other members. Cheers.

I live on the south coast of NSW.

    I have a few Canon G2, G3 and G5.

I've yet to dip my toe into the DSLR world.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi all.

I just found this site from a link provided on another site. I started by reading the tutorials (which I desparately need), checked out some of the threads and now here I am a member.

I guess like most everyone else I have been taking photos for a long time, albeit incorrectly. Started when I was young with one of the old Kodak disc cameras and moved on up to a Canon T50 that I inherited from my family years ago. That camera, at the time, was too overwhelming and it sat in a closet for years unused. I switched to the digital P&S's a few years later when those came out and now most recently I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ20. I guess I'm about a half step up from the P&S's and a half step back from the full DSLRs although I think the FZ20 is a pretty decent compromise with the full auto and the manual settings. I like it for now.

Right now I'm procuring every book I can on photography and reading as much as possible. I've also been trying to learn what I can on the web and get ideas from others' photos. I'm a newbie and I don't have skills yet but I'm trying to learn playing with every setting on my camera and taking tons of pictures. Most recently I have been just messing around with some post-picture enhancements to see the effects - tilt-shift has been kind of fun. I'm still learning composition and settings so give me a chance to learn.
This is a link to some recent pics I have been taking.

This site seems pretty awesome and I look forward to contributing and learning more from it. Cheers!

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi Margaret,

An interesting timelapse, quite a slow process I see!
Didn't know those Lyrebirds existed, only have a passing familiarity with our peacock which has similar tail plumage.

I tend to shoot a bit of wildlife myself, but I'd describe myself as a blundering amateur at the moment.
I've never been that interested in it until now, somewhat later in life, when I'm beginning to enjoy photographing birds and bugs, etc.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask and I saw you'd already dived into the challenge, so it only remains to say:

    Hi Doc,

That tilt-shift is an interesting effect - I didn't know you could do that in PP!
I guess it's some kind of filter?
    What does it run on?

There is much to learn here.
I learnt a quite lot on something not disimilar to your FZ20 and eventually went DSLR in May. I'm still learning, but that's half the fun!

Hi Dave - In Photoshop it's FIlter -> Distort -> Lens Correction (adjust vertical and adjust horizontal)

    That's perspective correction!
Have you looked at the images in Doc's gallery?
    For example

I don't think it is the same thing somehow (but I could be wrong)

    Hi Leong,

Glad to have you join us

What subjects make your shutter finger active?
Looking at your other questions, I'd guess wildlife - am I correct?

.. and you are a Canon shooter.

One more question; where in the world do you live?

Thanks, oh, and welcome to the CiC forums from ...

    Hello,

My name is Linda and I have been shooting for many years. I have grown twin daughters that tell me I have never taken a good photo in my life until I got my digital camera. They swear that there is someone living inside the camera that actually does everything for me that I should be doing but at least it works. Glad to be here hope to learn more. I have actually been doing ok but you never stop learning.

    Linda
