My name is Emmanuel, I am passionate about taking pictures with different kinds on cameras; analog and even digital including mobile devices like phones and mini digital cameras. Now I took a step to turn my passion to money and acquired a Sony A57k with 18-55mm lens. Handling this camera on auto seems easy but I did not get the best I wanted. I wish to learn from all of you how to get the best from my new camera and useful tips to make me a professional photographer.
Hi everyone,
I am Ingrid from South Africa. I have grown up around photography as my dad is the official horse racing photographer here and I learned under his wing. This process started in the 70's which means we worked on film ranging from35mm up to 645 and processed in a darkroom. Luckily I have had that apprenticeship and I believe the lessons are invaluable. Our main genre was action photography and I moved over recentlly to studio and wedding photgraphy. The tutorials and forums here have been absolutely mind blowing for me as I have been guessing and experimenting so far but I believe your info here has created a firm foundation of knowledge. Thank you very much and I will be posting pics soon.
Hi everyone,
I'm Kyle from Canada.
I just got a new Cannon Rebel T3 with 18-55mm lens. I'm very interested in photography as a hobby. I'm very new to using a camera outside of the auto mode and the tutorials here have been immensely helpful.

Good on you Kyle for getting out of Auto mode. That is the way to learn. Sure, there will be lots of mistakes. But the person who never made a mistake never learned anything. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.

Just new to this forum.
I have been consulting the WEB site on and off for over a year now, if not more.
I never lived completely off photography but did make a sizable income out of it in the mid 80s and stopped in 89. Came back to photography after my wife let me know in no uncertain terms and action that I was wasting my 'talent'. She purchased my first 'serious' DSLR, a Fuji Pro2. Since I moved to Nikon and currently own a D300 and a D800e.
I am not brand oriented even if it seems that way.
Background is really complex. Photographer, professional EMT, rescue and war dog trainer, Certified IT professional (certifiable too). I have no formal education yet I was hired as a sub teacher not so long ago. My general knowledge is extended yet not in depth so relatively weak in some areas.
I speak two languages fluently and read two more. I have two nationalities but was born in a third country. I lived mostly in Europe but also stayed a few years in Japan (4) and the Middle East (2). I am now in the US but we are thinking of retiring somewhere else. I have strong ties to the military in both countries I hold a nationality from.
My spelling and grammar leave quite bit to be desired especially knowing that despite me trying to pay attention I forget to type some words.
Despite being well equipped in both the photography side and the computer area (PP) I take few pictures as I do not see the point. Too many shooters taking the same thing and some offering an incredible vision I will never achieve is one of the reasons. Another, probably more important is that I learn something, prove to myself that I can do it and then move to something else.
I learned of photography by accident. I t rained with an old professional photographer. Training was with an old view camera then with a 5x7 Sinar. When working on my own I had to switch to medium format, Mamiya RB67. I used a 35mm as a complement and that reluctantly.
While training I was exposed to numerous concepts and visions that are now proving disquieting for many folks I tried to share it with. These are not about technical of image issues but purely awareness of our surroundings. This is the main reason why I signed up for this forum. I am hoping to find like minds able to transcend our preconceived notions and find how to apply them to photography.
Most of what I have to offer is about exposing our visual 'training' as human vs photographer. This perception affects our photographic vision. It is not about teaching, I have nothing to teach. I do not have the patience anyway.
My photography is in the samll stuff, close-up to macro to large stuff, large stitched panoramas, the 'largest' was made of over 300 shots, hand held. I was good with portrait but I lost interest.
Hello everyone,
I'm from Surrey, BC. I'm a new photographer and loving it. Hope to learn from you all and looking forward to seeing all your work.
Hello and welcome to the CiC forum. Thank you for 'signing up'.
I very much hope that this is an online environment that stimulates and interests you.
You'll perhaps already have seen that CiC is a forum in which pretension and attitudes of superiority are quickly knocked on the head and, instead, is a resource where people are willing to share knowledge and experience so that we can all learn. I very much hope that you will feel able to share for the benefit of fellow members as well as, hopefully, learning from reading what others have to say.
