So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Good on you, Priya. That's one of the key steps in the move from being someone who presses the shutter, to being the person who makes the picture.

Hi everyone my name is kurt - I am new to dslrs but not to photograpy. Like many of you my first camera was a kokak instamatic which only peeked my interest. Over the intervening years I have owned Polaroid, Konica SLR, Canon F1 and Pentax. My first digital camera was a pentax and when that broke I bought a luminix which took great pictures but by this time I was missing the control that over light and shutter speed that you can get with an slr. I have a Nikon d7000 with an 18 -105mm lens, a 55-300 mm lens a sb700 speedlight. As an old man and even with my experience in photograpy generally I admit to being occasionally overwhelmed by the complexity of control these digital slr's offer. So I am hear to learn and to share.

HI Everyone! I think your site is wonderful! A lot of good information, and that is what I am searching for. I have been taking photos for many years, hurt my shoulder and am down to a simple camera. I do my creativity in PSE 12. I have many years of printing and catching up on my work and hope to find help here. I will be posting in the correct sections...I hope. Glad to find this site and looking forward to learning and sharing some of my experiences.

Maybe you would like to tell us a bit more about yourself and what kind of photography you enjoy?

This is a friendly place, and it would also be good if you could edit your profile to let everyone know whereabouts you are in world, and how you’d like to be known (in CiC terms your “real name”). To do that, you click Settings (right at top), then Edit Profile (on left) and put your first name in the Real Name field and where you are (roughly) in the Location field. That way, your details will appear alongside all of your posts.

Just joined up from Ann Arbor, MI... Getting on with age, looking forward to retirement sometime soon, so getting back into photography... digital with my SLR, of course, plus a bunch of old film cameras from 35 mm on up to medium format and even 4x5. Many years ago I had a nice "real" darkroom, complete with a Beseler enlarger and color head, but that's long gone. I've been using an old version of Photoshop for years, but now it's playing second fiddle to Lightroom (4), Elements, and Photomatix. My real challenge is figuring out modern color management.... profiling my monitor, my printer, and all that jazz, so I can make some nice prints for my family, and ME!

I may well be back to you, asking for some tips about great places to shoot in Ireland. My wife and I will be visiting the southern part of that beautiful country, hopping along the coastline mainly, spending a bit over a week there. While she and her sister and brother-in-law will probably be sampling Ireland's fine alcoholic beverages, I hope to get lots of great photos, and so any tips/pointers wil

Hi, I'm Gail. I've had a camera in my hands, off and on, for the past 40+ years. The current one is a Canon EOS T3i with a 17-70 f2.8 lens and a 70-300 lens. I am a hobbyist primarily interested in travel and landscape, but recently have become intrigued with abstract images. I want to learn about more advanced manual settings on the camera and processing with Photoshop elements 11. I 'm looking forward to shooting and processing in raw.

Hello to everyone, I'm Ken from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have been taking photos for many years - primarily with film - though I haven't been doing it often or well. I came across this site while Googling in order to learn how to improve vacation (i.e., as different from travel) photos, especially in imperfect light conditions. This is only one of the many areas I need to improve. The Tutorials (e.g., Natural Light in Photography) on this site made me stop, read and stay as they are the best I've seen so far.

Before I get involve in Forums, can anyone suggest further reading material on the topic of solving problems with natural light, etc.?
