Hello Sally, and welcome to our Community. It's great to hear how excited and enthusiastic you sound. Yes, there is lots to learn, and you have a really wide range of interests, but the fantastic thing about photography is that the journey is as exciting as the destination - at least, that's what I think :) Hope that you will be able to share some images with us soon. If you have been looking around, I hope that you have seen we are a friendly and supportive bunch - there are some top photographers here who are always willing to share their knowledge.

Hi, my name is Kapil. I am absolutely new to photography, bought my Nikon D5100 around 3 weeks back. I am here to learn and enjoy photography.
Hello Kapil, and a warm welcome. Very pleased to see that you have taken the plunge and started posting images. Getting feedback is a great way to learn, and there is certainly plenty to learn, for all of us :)
As you are a beginner (and even if you weren't) I hope you will take time to look at the tutorials here. They are reckoned some of the best on the net, and cover a huge variety of subjects. You might need to get to know your camera a little bit first, but do try jumping in and see how you go.
If you wish, you could update your profile to let us know whereabouts in the world you are. As well as being friendly, it can help if you are seeking advice.
All the best,
Dave

Hello Everyone

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello, everyone.
I have just found this forum and have learnt a lot already. I have been taking photographs for more than fifty years and have just ventured into digital photography, having recently bought a Canon EOS 550D.
I hope to share my images with everyone and hopefully learn how to improve them. My main interest is landscape photography.

Hello everyone!
My name is Thiago, I'm a brazilian from Rio de Janeiro.
I have a modest but capable Sony NEX-F3 and I'm learning photography with this camera for about 4 months now. Hope to learn a lot more in this forum.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone @ Cambridge in Colour, my name is Del and I've just upgraded from a point and shoot to a Canon 60D. At this stage I have two lenses, a 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM and a 70-300mm F4-5.6IS USM. I like to shoot wildlife and have recently returned from an expedition to South Georgia, the Falkland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. A bit frustrated with the zoom lens so am thinking of upgrading to a 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L ISm USM. Does anyone have any pros or cons about this lens? Would be greatly appreciated.

I certainly hope you can, Leslie. CiC is very much about all of us helping each other to learn.

Welcome aboard, Steve. It is a learning curve, but the basic principles of making a great image remain the same - get the composition and exposure right. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.

A very capable camera. And, it is not the camera that makes great pictures, it is the person using it. I am very glad you have chosen to join CiC, Thiago.

Instant jealousy! Was that work or pleasure?

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi,
I'm Glen and I am now retired and getting back into photography after a 15 year break. So from 35 mm to digital a big leap as I am finding out. Hey but life is a huge challenge. I didn't fancy lugging around a camera with loads of lenses like I did back in the day so I settled on a Fuji HS10 not a bad camera but tends to get "noisy" around the 800 ISO mark looking to upgrade to the Hs50.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello everyone, my name is Pellegrino, I'm from Italy and at the moment I'm a freelance looking to become a professional photographer. I define myself as a "photography student" since I know I have still a LOT to learn to could define myself as "professional", at the moment I'm studying (beside the tutorials here and around the internet) the Michael Freeman series "The Photographer's Eye/Mind/Vision" than are my personal "Holy Books". I like to shoot enspecially nature and candid portrait and my dream is to make a photo-book about the Kora ("pilgrimage" or "circumambulation") of the Mount Kailash in Tibet.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hiya
I have been using a Canon A80 powershot for the last 10 years. I have never really used it to its full potential. The end of the lens got scratched a couple of years ago. I used it mainly for point and shoot and used the vivid setting a bit. Over time I have had the occasional stunner, occasional being the right word, but mostly average or disappointing shots. I want to improve them.
I have started reading books and looking at online tutorials. I decided that I want to improve my photography, understand why shots do not work. The composition is not the main problem, but grey sky's when the sun is shining, over exposed/underexposed and depth of field are some of the major things that I want to improve on.
I did not want a point and shoot nor did I want a dlsr and lots of baggage so after reading and research I went for a a Canon g16. I love the viewfinder, the size of the screen and cannot believe how well it takes pictures in low light. I am sure that it is going to be right for me.
I have just got back from a 10 day road trip. I started bracketing some of my shots (program mode). I might post 3 pictures in the correct forum to ask for general comments (ones with typical errors). They will not be cropped or enhanced.
I came across this site accidentally when I was looking for an article on depth of field.

Hello, my name is Ted Partrick. I'm looking forward to participating in this forum. Photography is a hobby, but I do put a lot of energy (and money!) into it. My latest venture is into macro photography with extension tubes.
I live in a small city in North Carolina, the Southeast of the United States, between the sea and the mountains. I hope to retire in just a few years, but until then, I am an engineer for our city government.

Hello, I am new to Cambridge in Colour, and am excited to make new friends, share my limited knowledge of photography, and gain from the knowledge of other members. I am from Mansfield, Ohio. I am a retired high school biology teacher that has discovered the amazing world of photography. I shoot with a Canon 7D, and my favorite lens is the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM lens. And a very warm welcome to you. It is a pleasure to welcome you to the forum.
You are in the company of many members on here who have taken up the hobby of photography in their more 'mature' years! I hope you find the forum both informative and interesting.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I am a long time time user of Adobe Elements but have recently decided to try Lightroom and Photoshop because of their availability for such a modest monthly payment. It is much harder going than I imagined and so far I have not seen the light as far as Lightroom is concerned! Maybe the tutorials here will help.
I hope that I have posted this in the right place - I clicked on "NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here" which took me nowhere so I clicked on "+ Reply to thread" and found this box to post in.

You've got the right place, Nick. Hello and welcome.
CiC is very much a resource focused on learning. The forum is the place in which we, hopefully, help each other to learn through discussion, exchanging ideas and sharing thoughts on images.
Not sure how far the tutorials will take you in realtion to a specific bit of software, but you'll always find plenty of ideas, opinions and support if you post up questions. In this case, you'd wanting to be in the 'Image Post Processing & Printing' section of the forum. Just click on the '+ Post New Thread' button and ask away.
By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
