Welcome aboard, Alex. You're in the company of a lot of obsessives on here!!
This is very much a sharing and supporting forum in which, I think, you'll find lots of people very willing to help you achieve whatever learning goals you set for yourself.
By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
Hi, my name is Matthew Vella and I'm from Malta. I'm relatively new to photography and I'm really interested in architectural and landscape photography. I've got a Canon EOS 1100D / Rebel T3 and I'm really looking forward to share my photos and learn from your constructive criticism. Thanks for such a great site.
Thank you for deciding to join CiC, Matthew. I think you may be the only currently active members based in Malta (which means someone will come on very soon and tell me I'm wrong!).
If there is any help you require about how to use the site, please do just ask.
If you ever need any help in getting images posted into your message, then please do read the helpful guide that walks you through how to do it. Click HERE to read the thread.
Something else you might find useful. Sometimes people are not sure about asking for comments and criticism on their images. This thread gives you some helpful advice and guidance about how to get the best feedback from fellow members.
Good morning Cambridge in Colour community. My name is Daniel and I live in Chicago, IL. I purchased a Nikon D7100 for my wife for Christmas. My wife (actually myself) is very excited about learning how to maximize the opportunities that this camera will provide. Although she has "kit lenses" from her prior camera, she (me) wants to look into purchasing 3 solid lenses for the D7100. I have looked at many lenses and reviews until "my hair caught on fire". We are looking for quality/great budget lenses. Although sometimes quality/price go together, we would love the Nikon Holy Trinity on lenses, but our budget/finances does not allow it. So with that said, is anyone willing to provide a selection of lenses that would make a D7100 proud. Many thanks in advance...a.k.a. MrSafety.
Daniel - Good afternoon (we're a few hours ahead of you over on this side of the pond). Great to have you here.
I'd suggest that you copy your question about lenses into the Digital Cameras & Equipment section of the forum. More people with helpful suggestions might see it there. Just go into that section and press the + Post New thread button and type in your question.
What will help people is if you can say what your photographic interests are. For example if you say that you're more interested in macro work than on wildlife in, say, the plains, then that's going to impact on the recommendations that people will make.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Hello my name is Gloria and i am yet to learn how to work my Nikon Coolpix P520. I thank you for being patient with me since I'm new and have still to learn how to figure this site out
Hello,
My Name Is Tony. I live in North Vancouver B.C Canada. I was a member of a great club, The North Shore Photographic Society, for over thirty years. I gained much of my knowledge by associating with the other members and participating in local and national competitions through the club. I served on the executive in various positions and did a fair amount of judging in cubs around the Greater Vancouver area, learning quite a bit more about photography in the process. I have lurked on this website for several years, and heartily recommend it to anyone who is looking for a clear explanation of any aspect of the art and craft of photography. I am seeking stimulus for my vision since I find myself in the ever deepening rut of seeing everything in the same old way. Hopefully I can make a contribution too.
That is no problem, Gloria. One of the good things about this forum is that even the most experienced and knowledgeable people remember that they were once just starting to learn as well.
If you have any questions about the forum and how to use it, then please do just ask.

Hi everyone, My name is Vish, 37 years young & live in Melbourne, Australia. I took up photography as a serious hobby about 2 years ago when I invested in a Nikon D3100 DSLR camera. I stumbled upon CiC recently while looking for resources to learn the more technical aspects of photography, and am amazed at the amount of information available on this site. Thanks for this great resource / forum and look forward to interacting with you all!
Hello all, I'm a new member and have been into photography since I was a Boy Scout (old Kodak Monitor, got my merit badge). Started 35mm in my 20's with the 1st OM-1, loved that camera. Got into Digital in the late 90's with a 3mg Oly P&S. Over the following years I have upped my Equip. & knowledge, but am still leaning every day. Just turned 60 and have a lot of shooting to do yet. I hope to learn and maybe contribute to this forum. Still love old film cameras & do shoot some every now & then, but you can't beat Digital for it's ease & PP, archiving. Well, let's see where this leads us. Thanks !

Hi J. (is there a name you'd like us to call you) and a warm welcome to CiC. Your history sounds a lot like quite a few of us here, but the second bit about learning is what caught my eye. That is what CiC is all about: learning and sharing - once we stop learning we might as well just roll over!Hello all, I'm a new member and have been into photography since I was a Boy Scout
I hope to learn and maybe contribute to this forum.
Hope to be hearing more from you around the forum,
Dave
Hi Steven, a warm welcome and glad you decided to join.Hi...I am Steven Virgadamo, New York, New York. Excited to be a new member and hoping to learn and contribute.
This is a friendly place, and it would also be good if you could edit your profile to let everyone know that you are in New York, New York, and how you’d like to be known (in CiC terms your “real name”). To do that, you click Settings (right at top), then Edit Profile (on left) and put your first name in the Real Name field and where you are (roughly) in the Location field. That way, your details will appear alongside all of your posts.
Looking forward to seeing you around,
Dave
Hi everybody! I guess I'm sort of a new member. I'm Don, from San Antonio, TX. I have been a member here for a while, but have been away. It was suggested to me to come back to this site because of it's incredible learning potential. Soooo, to make a long story short, I'm back and ready to dive in and start learning.
Hi, my name is Annie, and I would like to know if one can use a lens from an older analog camera on a digital camera. My niece has an old Canon with several lenses, and needs to know if she needs new ones.
Thanks!
Hello all
My name is Ian and I've been taking photographs for about 47 years, the first 'photograph' I took captured the inside of the lens cap, I was using my fathers Pentax H2. I've learned a little since then but still have some wonderful shots of the insides of lens caps. I use a Samsung NX100 now. Still have a great deal to learn and am discovering more every day.
