Hello and welcome.
Lots of people on here would encourage you to move from the auto setting as soon as possible and start experimenting with Aperture, Priority, Shutter Priority and full Manual control. It will seem difficult at first, but if you want to get serious about photography, you will find much greater enjoyment from doing so.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

The thing is, Jim, as you probably know already, great pictures are not made by cameras, but by the people behind the camera. And your camera is more than capable of 'delivering-the-goods'. So, I hope that being part of this forum does enable you to get the best out of it .... and get you out of using auto and into the modes where you are in control of the picture, not the camera.

I'm Butchdwm and new here. I love photography and learn more all the time. I'm working on a website at this time and have found that website building is not one of loved interests. I will look for a image to upload to show what Im doing at this time. I had admired the images that I have seen on this site for a few year now. It is a great site.

Hi, I'm Dave and I'm in the "blind squirrel" end of photography -as in, even a blind squirrel gets an acorn once in a while ;) Saw this in a Times of India article this morning, and maybe I'll learn to get a few more acorns ;)

Hello, Divyang and welcome to the CiC forum.
This is a forum where, hopefully, beginner's do find help and support to enable them to increase their photographic knowledge and skills. Please feel able to ask any photography-related questions that you may have.
You do not tell us where you are. If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello to everyone at CiC, I've had a dSLR for about 3 months now so still very much at the ''as much information as possible' stage. Which can be quite overwhelming at times. I have viewed many photographs on the forum and fell somewhat reluctant to expose my efforts just yet as the standards are very impressive. I'm still not sure what genre I prefer, sometimes feel slightly awkward when getting caught taking candid street shots. But I suppose I will have to take the plunge at some point. I look forward to being part of your forum. :)
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all...I've joined here to learn n off course to share....have been using a Canon-Powershot-SX-2. Now graduated to Nikon-D5300 with a 18-140 lens. want to learn the basics of dslr photography and proceed ahead gradually.
I like to travel and capture nature in various colours, blossoms, anumals and birds. Also I do capture candid snaps and snaps of the occassion/functions.
One first question - which is the best recommended zoom lens for Nikon-d5300 for wildlife and nature photography for amateurs like me ??
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello! I am Ranjan from Kolkata, India. About 30 years ago I bought a zenith TTL camera , I loved the camera, in turn, it instilled madness in me for photography. Subsequently I bought a Pentax and few years back I got a Nikon D3200. Landscape has always been my loved choice. Feel still nervous about shooting people, though I have always been dutiful in documenting family members and friends in occasions small or big.
Thank you CIC for allowing me to join the forum. I expect a lot to learn from the members...feeling like that I have a hot line to experts !
