Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
My name is Jeff Williams, took up photography again in 2006 and I am on my 4th DSLR. I am proficient in the technical aspects of photography, my problems stem from the fact that I do not have an ounce of art in my body!
My main camera direction has been photographing Community theater musicals.

northern hemisphere!)

Hi, I'm Spark from China. I learned the website from a friend, it's really a good opportunity to learn & communicate here.
Welcome Spark to our community. We don't have many members from China here, so I hope you'll be sharing some images of your fascinating country and culture. CiC is all about learning and sharing, so you have come to the right place.

Hello everyone! My name is Rich and I'm glad to be aboard. I use a Canon XSi and Canon T50. I like going to car shows and photographing there and I also enjoy landscape photography.
Hello Rich, and a warm welcome. I hope that you enjoy your time here. So that we know whereabouts you are in the world, could you add that to your profile, please. It's also a good idea to put "Rich" in your real name in your profile, too, then it shows up alongside all your posts, as you can see alongside mine.

Hello to everyone at CiC, I've had a dSLR for about 3 months now so still very much at the ''as much information as possible' stage. Which can be quite overwhelming at times.
Hi Gerry, and welcome to the forum. Yes, I think we've all had that overwhelmed feeling. It comes back to me from time to time when I branch into a new area. I hope that you do pluck up the courage to post some pictures. It is a good way to learn, and the folks on here are always kind and constructive.

Hi all...I've joined here to learn n off course to share....have been using a Canon-Powershot-SX-2. Now graduated to Nikon-D5300 with a 18-140 lens. want to learn the basics of dslr photography and proceed ahead gradually.
Hello and a warm welcome. We are all about learning and sharing, so you are in the right place. If you haven't already, do check out they tutorials here, they are excellent.
This is a friendly place, and it would also be good if you could edit your profile to let everyone know whereabouts you are in world, and how you’d like to be known (in CiC terms your “real name”). To do that, you click Settings (right at top), then Edit Profile (on left) and put your first name in the Real Name field and where you are (roughly) in the Location field. That way, your details will appear alongside all of your posts

.. I'm totally new to the photography community, would love to learn, interact and communicate with the members to enrich my knowledge about photography. I have a Nikon D3200 camera, would like to take shots for people, portraits and landscapes.
Hello Yasser and a warm welcome. I'm just going to repeat what I said to one of the guys above. You have come to a good place.
If you haven't already, do check out they tutorials here, they are excellent.

Hi Jeff and a warm welcome. Fortunately, there are folks here who are experts, between them, in almost everything ( a rare few in everything themselves), so that's what is so good about CiC - we all share and learn from each other. Look forward to seeing you around.
All the very best to everyone,

Hello everyone, This is Amit from Bangalore, India. I am not that much into photography but i do like clicking photos. Till now i used a Sony Point and Shoot (some 16 MP 10X optical zoom or my S2 phone). But since I recently lost it and was searching for a new one where i came across this site and got more inspiration from you people. At the same time I also joined my engagement committee at office and was clicking photos and editing in photoshop and creating logos etc when i found that this really excites me and the possibilities of creativity are endless. and here I am as a humble knowledge seeker to learn something (I believe there is no age to learn, I am 31 by the way :) ).
I'll start with a humb le question, since I have lost my camera and that was a PaS, so looking for a new camera and not sure what should I go for, a semi SLR, Basic DSLR etc (though i don't understand these too also fully) or some superzoom etc. Looking forward to your advice...
Thanks & Regards
Amit

Hi Amit,
Any reason why don't just replace with similar model to the one you lost?
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Shadowman, Thanks for your reply. I don't want to replace with the same one as I want to use this opportunity to get something from the next level (or basic DSLR for beginners) to get started and venture out in the world of photography. I will certainly be ready to put in time and effort. Looking forward to your opinions/advice.
Regards

Hi Amit,
As I think you realise, there is an awful lot of choice out there. You have identified the various levels of dslr (and of course there are several manufacturers). As you say, there are the "superzoom" fixed lens cameras, which can be very capable but because they are fixed lens will limit you in the future as you learn your new hobby. Finally there are the "mirrorless" interchangeable lens cameras, which are now as capable as at least the mid range dslr's and have their own advantages and disadvantages.
I recommend that you re-post your question in the "Digital Cameras and Equipment" forum, where a lot more people will read it. Before you do, though, there are two key questions you need to have thought about. What kind of photography do you think will interest you, for example landscapes, street scenes, wildlife, people, and so on. If you really don't know then say so, but if you do have an idea then that will help to get more appropriate advice. The second big question is budget how much are you wanting to spend? Even if we don't know the local prices in rupees, it should make sure that you get sensible suggestions.
Look forward to hearing more from you,
Dave
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Garyray, Hi I'm a died in the wool film user Nikons, Hassleblad , canon too many to list, I'm being brought into the DSLR world by my daughter she gave me her old Nikon D300 when she upgraded so I'll try to read a lot and not say much until I get my feet wetter.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Garyray and welcome. Fortunately, the rules of composition still apply, it's still all about the light, even "f8 and be there" pretty much still applies. See you around.
Dave
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Thanks so much Dave. Will re-post in the suggested forum. I do have some vague idea around what i am interested in shooting, more like scenes from common life, people, street, market, kids playing, food photography (one of my other hobbies is cooking) etc
I was reading/(so called researching or googling) and kind of read some more than others the list might be like (in no particular order and not much reason, reviews by users and some basic config specs maybe)
Superzooms with manual mode capabilities(at least claim to have manual mode)
1. Nikon P520 (Last Night Rs 22,800 Today it is Rs19,889 $332)
2. Canon SX50 HS (Rs. 25,500 $423)
3. Sony DSC HX300 (Rs. 25,500 $423)
Still not sure if I want to go for a super-zoom/advance Point and Shoot or should go for a entry level DSLR/Mirrorless (this is one category i have least idea about).
Thanks a lot !!
Regards
Amit

Hi, Steve from the beautiful city of Vancouver. I am a longtime photographer just looking for a better (less confrontational) digital community.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone, I'm a keen photographer and use a Canon Eos 700d which is my first Slr and I love it, I've recently did a photography course which has been a huge help and gave me more confidence but I still have a lot to learn which is great :-) I live in the Highlands of Scotland and love landscape and street photography. I hope to meet new friends to share this passion!

Steve - I think I can pretty much guarantee that you've found that less confrontational forum that you've been looking for ... unless you start the confrontation! You'll find lots of robust debate on here with, sometimes, people defending their corner vigorously. But compared to some of the bile that gets spouted on on some other forums, I think you'll find CiC is much more constructive.
The focus on here is very much about learning and those who are able, offering the sort of advice, guidance and assistance that will help others grow their knowledge and skills. If that sounds good to you, then this is the forum for you!
Great to have you here.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
