Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hello,
I am about to upgrade my camera.
I sell online and need a camera that can take excellent close-ups.
I am not sure if the photo I took of a vintage brooch will appear here after I post(in my avi). I currently am using an 8mp canon powershot which is doing a pretty good job for what I need. Altho I think I would like to upgrade to a 10 mp.
If you could give me info on pixel/sensor size...rate, that would be helpful.
Thanks so much,
Sue
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
here is the photo that I was mentioning in my previous post.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Sue,
Welcome to the CiC forums, good to have you join us.
For what you're doing and where you are using them, you will be hard pressed to improve on a Powershot and you're unlikely to notice much (read "any") difference between 8 and 10 MP unless the lens is significantly better.
You'll do far better off learning and using a better post processing (PP) package like Elements to improve the pictures.
If you're having trouble showing us a picture, this may help;

Hi again,
If "closeups" are one of your things, then you might like to consider a Canon 500D closeup adaptor (mine works just fine on my EF24-80/2.8L and EF70-200/2.8L lenses). (Here's an example closeup that I took with mine the other day).
What camera are you shooting with?

Hi Colin,
I have a Canon 350D but I am thinking about upgrading. was doing research on Canon 40D and 50D. However, now I've seen the results you get with your 500D, looks like there is another one to consider.

Hi again,
Sorry - bit of a mis-understanding ... I shoot with a Canon 1Ds3 - the 500D is a lens close-up adapter ... not related to the Canon 500D camera.

Hello I am Wiliam Bain and I have just finished an Open University course on Digital Photography. During this course I was introduced to the CIC website. What a useful site. I will visit regularly to further improve my digital photography. By the way you can call me Bill.

The tutorials on this site have already shown me how to enhance images post shutter using Photoshop. The histogram tutorials, particularly on colour and luminance, worked a treat. I couldn't believe the difference.
Here's to learning more techniques.
Hi "Brookaneer",
Welcome to the CiC forums from me too.
Yes, I've got to Aperture priority and use it 80-90% of the time :o
I'm still getting used to predicting when the meter will get it wrong and using EC to compensate.
Only a rarely do I take a foray into full manual
The tutorials here are 'world class' and attracted me too.
Anyway, look forward to seeing some more from you soon.
Best regards,

Hi Bill,
That's interesting, do the OU recommend us (CiC)?
Was the course taken as a step toward a possible career, or for hobby reasons?
I was going to ask what you like shooting, but two questions is probably enough to start with ;)
Look forward to seeing more from you and perhaps some pictures too.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hello everyone,
Want to introduce myself to this forum and CIC. Having lived with a Nikon 4s for almost 20 years, have finally moved into a D3s to explore the digital medium. Originally from Surrey, now live and work in Southern California. The plan is to photograph local sites with the amazing light on the west coast.
More to follow.

:)
Hi all new to this site having just joined. The name is Mike from a very wet and cold
South Wales, UK.
I use a Nixon D5000 and find it a truly great camera, I am very mixed in what I shoot
landscapes, wildlife and small studio work.
Having looked at the forums I am really looking forward to learning a lot more from you guys.
Wish everyone a happy christmas and good shooting for the new year.
Mike

Hi Mike,
(from a very wet and cold Windsor)
Yet another D5000 user :)
Between this and the D3000, judging by people here, Nikon seem to have made popular duo it seems :)
What lens(es) do you have?
I look forward to seeing some shots from you; either for critique or entered in the challenges or Mini Competitions. Plus of course, if you have any quetstions, just ask away :)
It remains for me to say;
